We were surprised at how quiet and peaceful this site was, despite being busy during our stay. Some of the pitches seem quite close together and with cars parked at the end of the pitches the site can give the illusion of being quite crowded, but once in the caravan it didn't actually seem that way. The main noise we heard on site was bird-song!

It is just a short walk into Bowness itself, either along a traffic-free pathway almost opposite the main entrance to the site or along the two footpaths accessed from the back of the site, one of which gives you direct access to the lake, much to the delight of our water-loving dog. It is also a short stroll to the Windermere ferry which carries foot passengers (50p per person) and vehicles to the other side of the lake, where there are several well-signposted off-road walks, including to Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's home) about 2 miles away.

By road from the site using car or bus, the steam railway at Haverthwaite, the Aquarium at Lakeside, Fell Foot country park, Brockhole Visitor Centre, Ambleside, Hawkshead, Grasmere, Kendal and even Keswick are within easy reach. You can also use the lake cruisers from Bowness Bay to get to Lakeside, Brockhole, and Ambleside or go for a cruise round the lake.

Although living only 25 miles away from the site and having visited Bowness on many occasions, this was our first visit here with the caravan but it won't be our last. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and despite living so close, felt like we were really on holiday.

Visited in February, the approach through windermere can be a little tight for large units. We found the wardens very friendly and helpful and the motorhome service point nicely accessible, our pitch was fine for us but everything is a little tight so a large caravan may struggle to manoeuvre on the pitches. Toilet block was clean with plenty of hot water, a trip over on the car ferry is only 50 p if on foot and it's got lovely walks away from the crowds on the other side.

And for the not so good bits, well we don't mind kids at all but we were plagued with children running in and out of the pitches where we were until all hours driving the dog nuts, parents just seemed to let them run free.

Overall a nice site for families but busy.

This is an excellent site, lovely tidy and friendly site. It is within walking distance to the town centre where they have plenty shops, restaurants and pubs. The site has free and very clean and warm showers. The owners were helpful and friendly. They also have a few basics milk/bread sold in the reception. We will definitely be returning here.

Really friendly and helpful staff despite the site being full. The location is great, really close to the town and the lake. The facilities always clean and the site very tidy. The only let down is there are so many rules on this site, no wind breaks, not enough room for awnings, tiny pitches, I found it hard to relax. Would be a wonderful site if it wasn't for all the rules

This is a lovely site, the location is brilliant, once you are here everything is in walking distance. It takes 5 minutes walk to the lake, where you can enjoy the view. There are plenty of shops in Bowness including a Tesco express and Co-op and the usual gift shops etc.

The facilities block is very up-to-date and warm, and the wardens were very friendly and helpful. The units are quite close but we haven't had a problem with excessive noise. We have already booked this site for 2015 and looking forward to it.

Lovely warm welcome on the site when we arrived. Check in was swift with no delays. The site was very busy when we arrived so one of the staff walked round the site to show us the pitches available and gave some hints about some of the pitches on offer (some of the pitches still have some of the old concrete base running through them).

Despite the site being busy, the site and facilities were kept spotlessly clean. The shower block is closed from 11am till 12pm every day for cleaning.

The site is an excellent location for exploring the Bowness, Ambleside area.

Would definitely stop here again.

Spent three nights from the 1st January on this site.

The main advantage if the site is it's location in the centre of Bowness. It's a lovely town with many excellent pubs and restaurants. Although there isn't much of in the way of fell walking in this part of the Lakes, but services from the town to Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick are very good.

Facilities on site are excellent and site staff were very friendly and helpful.

This is a lovely site and no wonder it is hard to book. The location is worth its weight in gold, once you are here you don't need to go out in a vehicle. It takes 5 minutes walk to the lake, where you can sit and enjoy the view, or catch a boat or bus. We purchased 1 day rover tickets on the double decker bus which cost £7 each and well worth the money. A return ticket on the boat to Ambleside was £9 each with the 10% discount. There are plenty of shops in Bowness including a Tesco express and Co-op and the usual outdoor and gift shops. We had a carvery on the watersfront which was £4.19 would recommend.

The facilities block is very up-to-date and warm, and the wardens were very friendly and helpful. As mentioned before the units are quite close, which isn't a problem unless your neighbours tv is on loud and your other neighbours group together in one awning until late - it then becomes less peaceful. Would return to this site without hesitation.

The site is well described by previous reviewers.

We have visited many times over the years and generally been pleased with our stay.

On this occasion we required a replacement gas cylinder and were charged £24 for a 3.9kg refill. We normally pay around £17 and consider the site charge to be excessive in the extreme. We fully understand a surcharge may be required however how can this excessive amount Be justified ?

There are a number other issues which have made the site less attractive since the C and CC took over and these will be taken up with the club directly.

We spent a lovely week there. It really is a quiet well run site just a stones throw away from the centre of Bowness. Its hard to say anything negative about Braithwaite Fold but I must point out a couple of issues you won't be told about on arrival.

Firstly the TV reception is hit and miss and you are likely to loose reception due to the high trees that surround the whole site.

Secondly some of the pitches have a concrete base to part under the chippings making it impossible to hammer your pegs in, we managed with our porch awning not securely fixed at the back, it wasn't windy so wasn't an issue. The site assistant was aware of the issue even though we weren't told.

Eating out can prove to be a bit expensive depending on where you eat. Myself and my wife spent over £100 on 2 occasions eating out and I wouldn't say it was that special so just be aware.

One more thing, the sites showers and toilets are closed for cleaning between 11 and 12am every day and you won't be allowed in. Rabbits roam the site quite freely which is nice to see.
