Basically this is a great site. Nice setting plenty of good walking nearby, close to pubs, food available, clean toilets and free showers.
HOWEVER what ruined our visit during the Easter Bank Holiday this year was the large groups of drunk revellers shouting and laughing until 4 in the morning. Oh, and one of them urinated about six inches from our tent in the middle of the night.
When I am on holiday I like a drink or five (and I am 31 before anyone thinks "boring old so and so"), but I come back to the campsite at closing time, shut up and go to sleep.
Basically these people didnt care who they kept awake and for how long. We left after two nights of our three night stay.
The owner was never around to police what was happening. It is a shame because without these charming inebriates it would be a terrific site.

A great place, just great.
The shower toilet block is basic, yet very clean. The site is peaceful, with excellent views. Porlock high street is about a minute away by foot (don't be alarmed by this- Porlock isn't exactly the west end of London- it's very quiet at night!).
There are several shops and pubs in the village, though as I arrived late and left early the next day I can only comment on one. The Royal Oak- its back door is conveniently positioned about fifty yards away from the site entrance, and it serves good food and has a good selection of real ales- always a winner with me!
You arrive, pitch up, and from time to time the owner will come along, see who's new, and take your pitch fee. Cheap and friendly, as it should be.
Porlock hill -a 25% monster- is interesting and fun to descend on a very small motorcycle!
Recommended!

We love this campsite, and continue to return year after year, as it never changes and is allways a delight to stay for a few nights.Phill the owner is allways welcoming (even though our dog allways barks at him) and you know he'll be around to collect the very reasonable toll for staying in one of his large and mostly flat fields. The campsite nestles just off the high street which is well stocked with a superb butcher ,a supermarket, bakers, ironmongers and several pubs, all of which are very welcoming to campers and dogs. The campsite has a small excersize area for dogs but as long as they are well behaved and you clean up after them they seem welcome all over the campsite :) Free hot showers and toilet blocks allways very clean .10 mins walk to the sea, 30 mins walk to porlock weir for a nice pub lunch, what more could you ask. Just dont tell everyone !

Great site, just off the main street in Porlock. Two large fields offer plenty of space, and it wasn't anywhere near full during the summer holiday mid-week. Facilities are basic but have everything you need including; free showers, indoor washing up, laundry room and fridge / freezer to put your beer and ice lollies. There were some electric hook ups. The owner is very friendly, and the whole site feels very un-commercial. The area is great, with plenty to do for young kids, especially around Minehead, which has a sandy beach. Prices were very reasonable - £6 per adult, with children under 4 going free. Dogs seemed well catered for.

What a lovely campsite! If you like no frills, simple yet friendly campsites then Sparkhayes is for you! Can't comment on the gents but six ladies loos, two showers and umpteen basins. Basic but clean and plenty of loo roll - hurrah! There was even a tub of Sparkhayes cotton buds! Great washing up room with washing up liquid & cloths if you forget yours! Also dish drainer which was rather handy as we don't have one. Payphone. Laundry room with huge Belfast sink. Makes a great baby bath as has been mentioned before I think! Can't comment on the washing machine as didn't use it. There is a fridge/freezer which you can use for food, also a separate one for freezer blocks. It costs 20p a go to freeze stuff which I think is very reasonable. There are books and games to borrow too. The campsite isn't expensive and is tucked away down a little road by the Lorna Doone pub. Porlock is beautiful and the pebble beach sea is a short walk from the campsite. Not a buggy friendly walk though. Very impressive coast. There are two supermarkets one of which had five varieties of Maple syrup - just what you need in a village the size of your keyboard! Will definitely go back.

We have been to this campsite many times now and is one of our favourites. It is a no fuss place which is situated in a beautiful village on the coast. The campsite has views of the sea in the distance and the walk down to Porlock Weir is beautiful. The only down side is that the toilet and shower block although generally clean could be better and there are only two showers. At bank holidays this place is busy but generally its one of those places where you can just drive in and pitch where you want.

August 2005 Lovely campsite in ideal location. Set in valley, 2 Mins walk to Porlock with great places to eat. Book restaurant / pub in advance though - we were there peak season mid-week and they were all fully booked. 2 fields, toilets fine, all very leisurely.
No kids play area, but more than compensated by proximity to Butlins - you MUST go there as a day visitor if you've got young children, no crowds, no queues, and half the price of Legoland!

August 2004 Wonderful site. The facilities look primitive but are clean and work fine! The two camping fields are flat and close to the village where there are a couple of good pubs, restaurants and shops.
The site has a really nice atmosphere and you choose where you camp. The owner is friendly and laid back and will arrive sometime to collect your money. Feels very ‘uncommerical’. Drawbacks? Some very noisy rooks in the trees alonside the field.

August 2004 Lovely campsite although on first impressions looks a bit rough round the edges. Very quiet and spacious. See views. Very laid back. Brilliant belfast sink in laundry wich we used for bathing our baby. Porlock itself gorgeous, great pubs and shops. Favourite campsite we stayed at on a three week tour of england. WILL BE BACK

June2004 We've just got back from another visit and we were happy to find it exactly the same as last year. Friendly, welcoming and relaxed. All the facilities you need on a lovely site with sea views. We originally planned to start here and then move on to other places but ended up staying put as we were having such a good time! If you talk to your fellow campers you'll find that many of them have been here before and they keep coming back, what more recommendation could you ask for?
