Many times, latest May 2004 I've by no means seen that many, but this is without doubt my current favourite campsite in the UK.
The site itself is relatively flat all over, fairly well protected on all 4 sides by either small walls or hedges, there's always a good length of lush grass, virtually no resistance when putting in tent pegs, enough drinking water outlets & bins, visible fire extinguishers & the facilities (toilets, showers, washing facilities etc.) are top condition. On our latest trip we filled the fridge up with lager & tonic & the freezer up with vodka & ice!!
The proprietor, Phil, is polite & courteous, very helpful & quite discreet in his day to day running of the place.
The site itself is so close to the village which caters for everything - there's a supermarket (in fact there's 2, small but adequate), bakery, bank, hardware shop, 2 or 3 pubs, 2 or 3 decent places to eat, all in a high street that's 100 yards long!
The site is about 15 minutes walk from the beach, which although covered in pebbles rather than sand, is still very pretty, with the walk East taking you up the hillside to the Coast Guard station, or West taking you to Porlock Weir, with either route giving you access to the coastal path going to either Minehead & beyond or Lynton & beyond, respectively.
I absolutely love the place, & look forward to returning again, hopefully sometime this year. I have no hesitation recommending this site to anyone. Enjoy yourselves.

Aug 2003 A great site on the edge of Porlock. Our favorite of the summer (we went to six!!). The field and facilities are basic but well kept, with great views over the bristol channel.
The pub is within crawling distance, but don't try to get to the beach - its MILES away across fields and marsh!! We dragged the kids on a 4-5 mile walk to Porlock weir via the marshes and back through the woods which was very pretty.
Exmoor is great and we will need to go back to see the rest!

July 2003 Go to this site it's wonderful! Just turn up pitch your tent wherever you want and relax the owner will be around at some point to say hello and take your money (very fairly priced)and when you ask him what time you have to leave by the next day he says 'whenever!' (bit of a shock after some sites). It's also in the middle of Porlock so a quick stroll up the road and you've got pubs, restaurants and shops. If only all sites could be like this.

August 2002 A level site, consisting of some large fields, quiet but very central to the delights of Porlock. On first inspection it looks a bit primative as there is only a small, rather old looking facilities block, but on closer inspection we found it was well maintained and quite adequate.
We visited (backpacking) in a very wet August, but had no trouble finding a good pitch. The manager was very frioendly and we are pleased to recommend it.

Aug 2001 I took the Children to this site at the end of Aug. What can I say but well done. The clean level site almost in the centre of the delightful village of Porlock, close to all shops, pubs etc but with far reaching views of the north Devon/Somerset coast. Well worth a visit for a simple clean safe place to camp.
If you haven't been to this area of outstanding natural beauty then I reconmend you visit this area/site on your 2002 tours. Places close by include EXMOOR, MINEHEAD & LYNTON/LYNMOUTH

A great alternative to Burrowhayes if you need to be near Porlock - quiter and not so packed with caravans. The showers are a basic but if you're prepared to put up with it a great rough and ready place to stop.
