Just back and had a lovely weekend. The site is basic but very clean.

The pitches are spacious and level. No playground but a nice playground 5 mins walk away near the lake. It's very quiet with no traffic noise.

The beach pub is great for meal deals, but go before 5pm as it soon fills up. Didn't go to The wine press pub so cant comment.

All told a nice clean basic site and only £12 with ehu and it didn't trip with a normal kettle or heater (though not at same time). Will defo be back for a quick trip

Clean friendly and water activities at the lake excellent. We had much rain but the weather changes so fast. The on site shop caters for most needs.

The toilet in the main park is clean and hot water available. There are static caravans on site with friendly residents. A bus service takes you to Rochdale Town centre with Big shopping and all you need.

Including at the lake side are Pubs and restaurants for both family's and young crowds looking for fun and relaxation. There is plenty to do at the lake and a car means good trip outs for bad weather, try Todmordon

Near by you will find the Gallow pub serving pub grub, very popular. Most of all the campsite offer a good chance to get away for a few days with lots of fun

Stayed here four times recently. Nothing too much trouble for owners. Very helpful in every way. Flat hardstanding for our little campervan, hook-up nice quiet site, shop fine for everyday things and a good natter. Toilets and showers spotless, water hot. Near to lake and pubs.

Will be there again this week, so handy for everything, including visiting family. My son has been coming here for many years, we hope to be doing the same. Main road approaching the site is narrow with no pavements, please drive carefully.

Just been for the weekend taken our friends with their caravan and they enjoyed it as much as we do. Very friendly staff/owners. Lovely views and walks. We have shown 4 of our friends to this site now and they all love it. Its reasonable in price, quite basic but does the job. Only downfall, the electric only likes you to use one item at a time or it trips. If this was sorted out it would be perfect. Field can get very boggy but with the rain we get you must expect that. There are gravel/hardstanding pitches but we like the field as we have children. There is horse riding stables at a reasonable cost and a large lake with plenty of things to do. There a nice chippy and small arcade nearby and plenty of pubs and restaurants

Arrived early Friday afternoon, Reception closed until 2pm. Ladies in reception & shop very helpful & kind, nothing is too much trouble for them. Paid money and advised we could pitch where we wanted. Site was not too busy & main tent field is large and generally flat.

Plenty of EHU, only problem is that electrics trip a lot. Toilets were in an old ship container, just two toilets in camping field, no showers. Toilets where just okay, fairly clean but old and tatty.Showers in main block are 50p, plenty of hot water, oh so slow and not very powerful, again dated and in need of modernisation.

Washing up station is quite a walk, 20p for hot water and you don't get a lot, only 2 sinks and very dated, Toilets here, again dated and worn.

Site is handy for the lake, within easy reach of some lovely canal walks and the Nature Reserve. The Wine Press pub is very nice, friendly and good honest food at reasonable prices.

Overall, not a site I would return to until facilities are upgraded, in my opinion they are poor, not over clean and dated.

We visited this site after we bought our first caravan because it was close to home and had heard good reports. This is a no nonsense site, basic but good value. If you want somewhere where you are prepared to make your own fun, want to do nothing much more than relax and are not wanting a luxury site you won't go far wrong here.

For kids there is a large empty field next to the site which is ideal for playing and the site shop is small but perfect for the inevitable forgotten item. The toilets on the site are not great, but do the job. We have been back again and just booked our next trip because we love the laid back feeling on the site.

I have seen some bad reports on he staff but I have always found them accommodating (and maybe a little abrupt on occasions) but it certainly would not put me off.

The local area is also nice with a walk around the lake and some nice pubs within a couple of minutes in the car.

We found this site to be good value for money. It's very basic, but for £14 per night I think you get what you pay for.

We were met at reception by friendly staff and made to feel welcome. We were pointed in the right direction and told to pitch where we liked on the main field. Some of the pitches looked a little uneven but we managed to get one in the middle where it was more or less flat.

The electric is a very low ampage - we brought a kettle from home and were unable to use it here. The supply managed to run our strip light and charge the lantern and mobile phones so we managed ok. We did blow the box once, but the owner was great and came over to show us how to get it back on.

The main shower blocks were old but clean and functional, the toilets on the field were literally in a shipping container and not great. They were clean when we arrived on the Friday but I'm not sure that anyone cleaned them over the weekend. Even so, people seemed to respect the surroundings and cleaned up after themselves as best they could. I have been to more commercial sites with paid cleaners daily and the loos have been in a worse condition than here.

You have to pay 20p for hot water for washing up, or for a shower, but it was good and hot and you got enough for a leisurely shower. For the price we paid, I didn't mind paying a little extra for piping hot water.

The on site shop is minimal but has the basics.

There didn't appear to be any children's playground facilities although we noticed that just outside the camp, building work is going on with lottery funding for a new play area. No idea of time scales or whether it will be accessible from within the camp site though.

There is a riding stables accessed through the campsite, which offers hacks for £10 per 50 minutes (ish). They also do a £20 deal where you can spend all day at the stables, go on a couple of rides, groom and take care of the horses. I thought this was good value for money with 2 horse mad daughters!

The Lake itself is a lovely ramble with several paths off the beaten track to follow too. There is also Watergrove Reservoir at the top of Wardle village which is a really nice walk and is good for dogs! The Beach pub does nice food, and there is a good chip shop on the lake front, next to the arcade. Littleborough has a co-op and a Sainsbury's local store, plus numerous pubs and takeaways.

All in all I feel we got what we wanted which was a cheap basic site where we could base ourselves when visiting family. We had a lovely relaxing time and enjoyed just sitting outside the tent and making the most of the sunshine!

Decided to use this site as it's less than 4 miles from home and we wanted a 'test run' of our new Khyam Aspen.

On arrival at reception was greeted by Very Friendly staff who advised us where to go to pitch the tent. Field was reasonably flat and EHU available.

We were advised that there was a green storage container in the corner of the field which comprised of 2 separate fully flushing toilet and hand wash basins. These are provided by the site for the lower field campers so they don't have a long trek in the middle of the night to the main toilet block 'should nature call'. They were mopped each morning we were there and re stocked with toilet roll - basic but all you needed.

2 other shower blocks are available - either using a token available from the shop or run on 20p for about 10 minutes. The shop is small and basic but locally there is a Sainsbury local and a Co-op in Littleborough village about a mile away (though down hill so probably best to go in the car with shopping on the way back).

There are 2 local pubs right on the edge of the lake. The Beach - which is more 'chain' pub - basic good value 2 or £9 sort of pub grub or 'The Wine Press' at the other end - bit more expensive. Also along the edge of the lake is an Italian Restaurant - very nice.

Other local facilities include horse riding, an amusement arcade in the village, a cafe, craft shop, fish & chip shop, and a little further along is an Activity Centre - great for the younger kids. The playground area is situated 2 minutes from the main camp site and has been finished recently and provides a basic 'jungle gym' experience.

As the site isn't 'Adult only' you have to take the luck of the drawer with the neighbour & any kids & their behaviour but generally we found the site to be brilliant. Can't believe we felt so much on holiday for being on 4 miles from home. Really looking forward to going again..

Our second visit this year. We are only 30mins away from home but feel many miles further. You can choose your own pitch, we face the large hill so get a lovely view when we get up in the morning. Then the motor way is behind us out of site.

The noise is very minimal and at week ends you really can't hear any noise. The toilet in the main camping pitch is not really unisex You will find people are sensible, left for males right for females. You can always use the toilets in the main shower block. Which is very clean. Shop is well stocked.

We found the ladies who ran it very helpful and friendly. The lake area is very popular especially on Sundays. For the price we pay we will continue to use this site. Pubs are in walking distance. Cheap ok food in the Beach family pub. Free parking if having a meal. Todmordan near by, small flea market on a Sunday.

Unable to comment re children's playground. Children seem to enjoy playing cricket and football near their own tents. Site seems popular. Site well maintained. Going again, taking four of our friends. Having a barbie which is allowed.

I have thought long and hard about this review as I lived less than a mile away for 12 years and know the Lake very well. I only live four miles away now and regularly walk my dog around the Lake.

I went to the site to meet others. First opinion, staff not very friendly. Before I arrived I rang to ask if I could set up early, I was allowed to arrive 1 hour early, when I arrived field empty, only 1 other person there setting up. My money was taken and I was waved in the direction of the field and told to sort myself out with EHU, (which didn't work) It was fixed later on.

Field filled up throughout the day. People I wanted to meet were told the site was full but there was an empty field next to mine and room on top field.

I was disappointed to find the toilets, unisex, were in a converted ship container and there were only two, clean and a filthy mop, I presume to clean it yourself. The showers were an extra 50P, didn't use them.

My opinion I found £12 for what is basically, a mowed field, no decent toilet facilities, extra for showers, and noisy neighbours. Can hear M62 also. I have stayed in better for less, will not return. Lake and village, very nice.
