Stayed here as we needed to try out our new tent and it was close to home and work as I was on call. Was a bit unsure about its location as is not far from the M62 and Rakewood Viaduct but there is little or no noise from the motorway. The welcome was friendly, helpful and we were given basic info on the site. The pitches in general are reasonable flat, although its not a billard table be any means! There is a policy of pitch where you want that I like and there are plenty of EHU points. Although the site was busy the toilets stayed clean and noise soon died off around 1030pm. The disabled facilities whilst basic are very well kept, but ask for them to be opened up if you need them.
The other comments about local places to eat are spot on, and the dog loved the walk and swim around the lake. Would we go back? Just looking at the diary now!

We were first time campers and this site was ideal. We only live 20 minutes away but it felt a million miles away from home. The site was very clean, the owners were very friendly and there was a good mix of friendly people camping. Children were more than welcome - Just be aware that there is a little stream by the trees that runs the length of the field - so keep kids away from there. We had a little trouble finding the site at first as it is not sign posted and the sat nav didn't pick up the country lanes - best advice is follow the lake shoreline right the way round - you will pass a white pub on your left continue down that road and the campsite is on your right. We would definitely camp here again as a weekend camping trip and would definitely recommend to others.

We stayed the Bank holiday weekend in the main field. We were in a group of our caravan and there was also two tents. It was a great weekend. The walks around the lake are lovely and the Fish and Chips at the other side of the lake are the best in the North West!
The tents in our party pitched near the stream and the toilets. The was an unpleasant smell that surrounded around them when the toilets flushed, so make sure you pitch at the other side!
The showers are 50p, I think, and you have to buy a token from the shop. They are clean and the water gets piping hot.
We are going again, for the same May Bank holiday. It's a great little site for £14 a night.

We live about 8 mile from this site and have to say that we didn't even know it was there, and have visited the Lake many times for walks around etc. What a little gem this is as at weekend after work we can be set up and having a relaxing drink within the hour.
We used the site for our first outing this year which was the Easter weekend, although the site was not full, there were plenty of other campers of all sizes using the rally field. The owners are friendly and as all others have said the newer toilet blocks are lovely and clean and loads of hot water for your 50p well worth it. We cannot say that the motorway which you can see from the site causes any undue noise.
There was so much going on at the Lake over the easter period, it was such fun. The other pub on the Lake (The Wine Press) is an absolute joy to eat in giving proper restaurant type meals as opposed to pub grub - well worth a visit. There are guided walks around the area, cycle paths, a horse riding school nearby, boating on the lake, a slot arcade on the main road at front of lake. So much for families to do together, and children have to make their own entertainment on site (a bit like we had to when younger). In addition to the two pubs and fish and chippy mentioned by others, there is an italian restaurant, Charlottes restaurant, a tea shop with gift section attached.
We can honestly say that we will be using this site for quite a few outing this year (British weather permitting)and at £12 per night incl. EHU well worth it.

This site is situated just off the banks of Hollingworth Lake. As mentioned in other reports it is a little bit of a narrow approach road, but we have been here a few times and never had problems. One good point is it is only a 10 minutes drive from the M62 Junction 21.
We were situated on the main part of the site that is hard standings with E.H.U.S. If you are going to use an Awning you will need rock pegs. They do sell them in the small shop on site that is well stocked with the basic essentials. There is a grass area in the centre of the hard standings but it is slopping.
There is a big grass camping field with E.H.U.S but when we were there it was only open at weekends. It did look flat and well maintained.
The site is set in a lovely area with hills all around, therefore TV reception was not to good. We could only get BBC channels.
Showers and Toilets were set in two blocks and were clean and tidy at all times. The older block had 2 showers that should be 20p but I just pulled the cord and had free hot water although I could not control the temperature. They were to hot to enjoy. You have to pay 10p for a sink of hot water in this block.
The newer toilet and shower block is situated behind the shop and in this one the hot water is free for the sinks but the showers are 50p for a token you buy from the shop. I had as much water as I needed, and I could control the temperature.
It takes about an hour to walk around the lake but with two pubs, cafes, shops and a brilliant chip shop, that opens at 8-00 in the mornings for breakfast, allow yourself a bit longer. The main pub on the lake is called The Beach and do a 2 for 1 meal offer. We ate there three times on our stay of just over a week and were never disappointed. The beer garden at the rear of the pub is on the lakeside with fantastic views.
The village of Littleborough is about 5 minuets drive away and has a Co-Op, shops, pubs, banks with cash machines.
For the larger shops Oldham and Rochdale are just a short drive away.
For an away day we drove to Blackpool. Took just an hour.
A really pleasant, friendly site in a fantastic setting for the walkers amongst you.

This site is about 20miles from where we live, and as it was our first trip out in our caravan which we purchased recently ,we would like to say that it was very enjoyable and very clean. Ablutions were very clean, tidy and plenty of hot water, as long as you put the token in the machine (that's another story). The people on the site, ie staff in little shop were very pleasant and polite, as were the other caravanners. Lovely walks around the lake (it was a bit cool on the Sunday) but had a great weekend. Yes you could hear the motorway, but not too loud and the loos are open all night long, not closed 10pm to 8am.

This site is only 20 mins from our home but feels like a million miles away from surburbia!
Nestled at the back of a hillock at the southern end of the lake, the site is accessed down a single track lane frequented by families out walking so can be quite tricky.
The camping field has EHU and a portacabin with toilets (in the corner) but a short walk into the main site through the statics takes you to two toilet and shower blocks (tokens needed to be bought from Reception) which are both of a good standard.
The camping field has great views, is reasonably flat and at £12 a night for a 6-berth tunnel is very good value. Friday night was fairly quiet but lots of tenters arrived Saturday afternoon and the field did fill up, although there were no rowdy parties despite a large family group and several groups of younger campers.
The only downside to this site is road noise, cars enter and leave the site on a very regular basis (some people seem to live semi-permanently on site) and they pass right past the rally field. There is also noise from the distant motorway, but we blanked this out after a short time.
This is an ideal quick weekend getaway site with plenty of local facilities nearby (Co-Op is in Littleborough by the station), but I can't imagine spending a week here as there wouldn't be enough to do.
For us this is an 9 out of 10 site.

This site is about 2 miles from where we live so we go often on our days off,
There are 3 areas to camp the main area is all hard standing with a BBQ area and a small grass area in the middle, then theres the paddock which is a smaller area with hard standing and grass separating the pitches and is adults only, and lastly theres the rally field which has had eletric hook up installed to a large area of it.
We go here often as its a really friendly site and there is plenty to do, there are 2 toilet blocks the old block is near the main hardstanding area and you need 20p for the showers, and 10p for the hot water in the sinks, its always clean and tidy. Outside here is the washing up sinks which are under cover and a water tap thats in a cupboard on the front of the building so it dosn't freeze in the winter as the site is open all year, there are plenty of other taps but this is the one to use if its really cold.
The newer toilet block is in the building attached to the reception / shop, and you need tokens which you get from reception for 50p
The showeres are in wetroom type rooms and theirs hot water to the sinks. The building is open all the time, the review that mentioned that the closed at 10 was from an old sigh and thats now been altered.
If you like walking there are lots of walks to do from the site, from gentle walks around the lake which is just over 2 miles round with plenty of benches, to walks up on to the pennines and also up to blackstone edge and here you can join the pennine way, there are plenty of circular walks you can do, if you get the south pennine ordanay survey map you get an idea how may walks there are, you can also walk to hebden bridge in yorkshire then get the train back which is a great day out, call in the whitehouse at the top of the edge for your dinner on the way, they stop serving food at 2.30pm its good value for money and if you dont fancy walking back or carrying on to Hebden you can get a cab back to the site, the views are stunning.
Theres also a nice walk down past the visitors center, theres a play area here, and a coffee shop in the centre, a bit further down is a picnic area and a small pond for pond dipping, if you carry on it brings you out in littleborough, turn left when you get to the road and go under the arches,
There is pub just as you come out on your left call the Red Lion, this is great for belguim beer, real ales and whiskeys, its a bit excentric but very friendly, theres a chinese, an indian, wine bar and a few pubs in littleborough and a tapas bar up the road from the red lion in the Rake inn but you would have to book for that as its really popular, the number is 01706 379689.
At the lake itself there are 2 pubs, the Beach which does speciel offers on meals and is nice and the Wine Press which is a bit more up market but still welcomes walkers and bikers and you get a great view of the lake, it takes about 15/20min to walk too, it also serves coffee from 10.00am
The nearest proper supermarket is Low Cost next to the station in Littleborough, I would only take small motorhomes in here though, and park in the lower carpark as its a bit tight up in the top carpark.
You can catch a train to Manchester in littleborough and it takes 35 miniutes, a day rover ticket cost approx £3.50 or a day out in Hebden bridge the other way is really good.
There's also the canal near the station so a cycle into yorkshire is good and when you get tired you can catch the train back with your bike, Grandma Pollards chippy in walsden is a good ride and you can sit at the side of the canal on the seats provided then jump on the train home, or Todmorden has an indoor and outdoor market but not sure what day, we also cycled to Hebden bridge then got the train back but there is an underpass and steps up to the platform here so you would have to be able to carry your bikes.
Next door to the site is a stables that cater for bigginers to advanced riders its called Dicky Steps and is run by the daughter of the campsite owners, the number is 01706 373919.
Theres also the Holling Worth Lake water activity centre at the lake that does sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, rowing, if you want a lesson then you have to book but if you are experienced then you can hire the equipment but maybe best to ring so your not disappointed, 01706 370499.
And the local taxi firm is 01706 377877
Sorry to go on but we really enjoy our time at this site and it only charges £10 a night including electric.

A huge thank you to Stan and Lynda on reception for accommodating us without prior reservation and out of hours too, due to another site letting us down. A lovely, well maintained site. Friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, a well-drained and flat field with spectacular views. Ideally located within a short walking distance to the lake and pubs and a short drive to the nearest village for shops etc. Other reviews have mentioned a lack of children's facilities, but while we were there all the children were mixing with each other and joining in ball games etc. There is a stables on site for pony trekking, fishing on the lake, a walk in the woods - what more do kids need?! This is a really lovely site, right on our doorstep yet it feels like you're miles away in the country. We will definitely be making regular returns!

A simple site near to the reservoir. Nice couple who run the site. Unfortunately when we we visited we had rowdy neighbours (campers). The site is even with ehu but could do with some landscaping. For such a small road into the site it was busy with all the permanent statics which were there. 4 out of 10 but a quiet site with access to the lake. Good walks for the dog but away from the lakes from the about a mile away.
