WOW! What a lovely picturesque site and surrounding area. Loved the way the chickens and geese wander around the camp. We have definitely found a real gem of a campsite for a weekend retreat of peace and quiet. There was a few night fishermen set up which did concern us at first but we heard nothing at all from them through the night and slept soundly. The only noise that woke us in the morning was the birds singing.

The location is extremely picturesque right by the river but that's really the only good thing about this site. There are electric hookups but we decided £4 was too much and didn't use one. The toilets didn't look as if they had been cleaned for some time and the showers looked really unpleasant. We only stayed one night. The owner was not unfriendly but had no information about buses into Abingdon , or much else.

I have literally 'lived' on this site in our caravan on a few occasions for many weeks at a time as my husband sometimes works in the area. The site itself is a stunning spot with the river Thames running through. There are swans, ducks and chickens running all over the site which is wonderful. There is a lovely pub with great food next door, and a local post office/shop selling bread and pastries in the beautiful village of Clifton Hampden. Abingdon is 5 mins drive. Hiring a boat and sailing along the Thames is a wonderful day out. Henley on Thames is 40 mins away and there are charming villages worth exploring nearby. The toilet/shower/laundry facilities are basic but immaculate. This is a beautiful, peaceful, friendly site where you are left alone to chill out and enjoy!

First impressions on entering the site were not good. A couple of flood damaged caravans littering the site left from the July floods. Went to the old ladies house to book in and pay, nobody home! Some outbuildings in a collapsed state, again a legacy of the floods. Waited 1/2 hour then found a very nice pitch by the river. Then found the 25m hook up lead would not reach the hook up point. No probs as we had gas and leisure battery.
Walked over to the loos, basic and dated, with two working showers. In need of updating.
Now the good bits. A lovely pitch by the Thames, The Barley Mow pub just outside of the site, with a smashing beer garden, good food and real ales. A short walk to the village shop, fresh bread/pastries,papers etc.
Travelled to Henley on Thames for a day, (40min steady drive) Lovely. Would recommend the Wetherspoon pub 'The Catherine Wheel' for food.
Also visited the grave of Dusty Springfield in the local churchyard.
To sum up this ended up being a great long week end, and goes to show first impressions can be deceiving. YES we will go again.

Site and nearby facilities as good as in earlier reviews but the elderly lady who runs the place can be a bit scary - this time we weren't allowed to pitch with a view of the River because "Tents are horrible" (ours is a Litchfield Challenger), having previously had a lovely spot on the bank. Hens and ducks (with tiny ducklings at time of visit) roam the site, so stay here if you like that sort of thing but not if you're easily disturbed by the dawn chorus! River is unfenced so you may have to watch toddlers, but the bank is obvious and a narrow band of nettles will discourage older children from getting too close. No play area, so more for children who enjoy the outdoors for what they can see and explore. Post Office/shop closes at 1 at weekends, but compensates by selling fresh pastries from 7am even on a Sunday. The next nearest at Long Wittenham keeps pure Post Office hours. Don't miss Pendon Model Railway at Long Wittenham or Project Timescape near Wittenham Clumps (particularly for families), both an easy cycle away.

June 2004 This site is set in a lovely location with pitches on the banks of the river Thames. There's plenty of wildlife wandering around the site in the form of ducks and chickens. We took our dog who was made very welcome and enjoyed a lovely long walk along the banks of the Thames. The local pub is right next to the site and serves excellent food. The only downside was the very basic toilet block which needed a good clean.

28/06/03 The site is situated on the banks of the river thames situated between didcot and abingdon.the ammenaties on site are frugal but just around the corner is a small village store where you can purchase the basics, the toilets and shower block are a little long in the tooth but the price for camping reflects the overall scene, all in all a beutiful little campsite,7 out of 10.

The site is very picturesque, But the road is very noisy, as is are the chickens and ducks, Worst however is the very large Didcot power station that sounds like a motorway at night . The toilets and showers are basic and the urinals have some fungus growing that looks like it might be extraterrestrial. Try it if you want but hide the Kids and don't expect a warm welcome

We visited this campsite in May 2005. Yes we loved it because it is right on the river and has a pub walking distance away which serves really nice food. My only complaint about the site is that it doesn't have any washing up facilities so all your washing up has to be done in a bucket which is really annoying. I have heard that it is now an adult only site which is a real shame. More campsites are needed on the River Thames as they all fill up too soon in the summer months.

September 2004 This site is located right next to the river Thames in a beautiful location. It's has a pub on it's door step that serves excellent food. Great for dog owners and walkers with access to the river towpath just across the road. Only down side to this lovely site is the toilet block which could do with an upgrade!!!
