The most expensive site I have used in the whole country (United Kingdom) £21.50p for a small van and 1 person per night.
Half the fresh water taps are turned of at the stopcocks inside the cupboards, and located so awkwardly it is impossible to use them without getting oneself muddy or the the van potentially stuck, again for the price the chemical disposal was pathetic as well, merely a large toilet.
The EHU's are all on grass pitches, which was soft and boggy. The few hard standing pitches have no EHU's. When I asked the person taking the money, he replied I just needed a very long cable for hookup on hard standing.
When I booked in I was proudly offered free WiFi, which was rubbish, the signal only strong enough inside the cafe, this was not mentioned before I chose my pitch, when I needed to use it the cafe was locked up, as it also was when I went to buy laundry tokens.
I was also informed of several rules I must adhere too, even being told how to turn the toilet door handle.
The waste water dump was also located in a ridiculous position, very close to the end of a static caravan, I am sure larger van owners would find it impossible to use.
I have also heard this site will charge for 2 people if you have a two man tent with one person in it.
Comparing this site to many others I have used and paid half as much the facilities, pitches and service are hugely inadequate and way overpriced.
The owner/warden whatever he is customer service attitude was merely flippant and unhelpful.
£21.50p, please somebody justify this price for me? And before anyone suggests it, I badly needed the hookup for my batteries, and laundry though I'll look for a launderette next time.
Harbour car park for me next time, as Thurso is well worth a visit and a very handy stop over town. Friendly and helpful locals, lovely beach and a very well thought out walk up the river too.

Booked this site at last minute as another site had double booked us. Had read reviews and were open minded about what we would get. On arrival (WED) there were only 2 tourers on site and we thought oh dear not a good sign. However we were pleasantly surprised. A few more vans and tents joined us later in the day and on Thurs the site filled up with a martial arts get together. The toilet blocks took a beating with all the children on site but were cleaned up to a high standard by late morning.
There is a public path which runs along the edge of site leading into town. We didn't experience any nuisance from people using the path. There is a small play park ajacent to the site for kids to play in.
Beautiful views across the water and the orkney ferries can be seen toing and froing. Could also see water sports. Canooing in the water.
Toilet blocks were immaculately clean albeit a bit dated but as long as theyr clean it doesn't really matter. Lashings of hot water and even 4 clothes ropes for you to hang out your washing or wet gear.
This was the only site we visited out of 6 that gave a good FREE wi fi access. Reception gives you a code.
There is a DINER on site and the Diner food was good and the young girls there were very pleasant. It didn't sell alcohol but you could take in your own. There were also nice comfy sofas to sit and watch tv. Very American styley.
LIDL is directly across the road and handy for shopping needs. Tesco is 5 mins drive away and SCOTMID in town too. Shopping centre looked nice but was a huge let down. Nothing much there for the size of Thurso.
The owner needs to organise his pitch bookings a bit better as he seemed to spend a lot of time going around the site with his note pad seeing who was pitched where. This wee site is a goldmine with lots of potential. Would return and would reccomend it to others. Nice clean tidy site.
Only 20 mins from John O groats!

Two over 65 cyclists booked in for one night on a return from Orkney. Site is as most reviews state but the price for a one person tent was £9. 50 per pitch plus £3. 00 per person giving a total of £25. 00 for two of us. 30 days pm on this site would pay a mortgage every month.
Just booked in and told our pitch number and within 15mins the guy was round to check his board. The place is a joke. Last month I stopped off with my caravan and got the same check up by the person who allocated the pitch. Electricity was off for over an hour and the toilets were closed for cleaning, Ok, they need to do certain things but at least we could have been warned and not have campers running around asking who had leccy.

We live locally, only 14 miles from Thurso (Don't laugh) but came here at short notice to try out our new caravan for the weekend and make sure we knew how to put up the new awning as it was different from our previous one prior to going away for 3 weeks in the Summer.
We were last here in 2009 and found that some of the issues I reported then had been rectified and were very happy with the site. There was now a flagstone wall between the campsite and the cliff top path at Victoria walk. The local council have also placed railings along the cliff top, so much more secure and safe for the kids.
Staff were friendly and site was very clean. Toilets were also very clean, but still like stepping into a time warp bak to the 70's with bright orange laminate counter tops. Could do with a bit of a revamp in here, and for the life of me could not find any Grey water disposal points so had to drain it at the outside shower point. (I did make sure I washed everything away afterwards)
Diner is very good by all accounts and although we did not eat there ourselves is very popular with locals so that in it's self is a good indication of the quality of service. Council owned kids play park right next door and nice walk to the beach. Lidls is right across the road which is handy for stocking up on supplies and there is also a Tesco & Coop within a few minutes drive as well.
Thurso Castle ruins can be seen from the campsite and although I am local have never been to them so we took a stroll over, however although nice to look at were disappointed as there was no access into them, but you could see why as they were falling down so would have been dangerous.
Living locally with sea views over the Pentland Firth from our House we don't appreciate what is in front of us so if you are visiting on holiday and you want sea views, you really will struggle to get better views than what is provided at Thurso Caravan Park.
Large Tesco can be found in Wick (20 miles East)which has 24hr fuel.
Places to see:- Mey Castle, John O' Groats, The Stacks of Duncansby, Mary Anns Cottage, Wick Heritage Cnetre, Laid Hay Croft Museum (Dunbeath). There is also a soft indoor play area in Wick at PPP next to the Old Pultney Distillery

Very clean and tidy site with stunning sea views to Dunnet Head and the Orkneys with 'the Old Man of Hoy' on horizon.
Facilities very clean, bags of free hot water. Security coded as public can access site from clifftop path but this did not appear to be a problem.
On site diner good value and decent food!
Site is on north side of town which is no more than a 15 minute walk away and has a Lidl store literally across the road, so access to shopping, pubs and restaurants etc. , is exceptional.
Scrabster, 5 minutes north in car, is Ferry terminal for the Orkneys and day trips by bus are available and worthwile!
Also boasts one of the finest seafood restaurants in Britain. Expensive but really really serious food.
Site owners and staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

Beautifully maintained site run by very nice people. Great location overlooking the sea and only a short walk from the town centre. Great base for visiting the surrounding areas.
Tried to find a cobweb in the toilet/shower block, after a previous review, but was unable to do so.
Showers are a little temperamental. When I first used them I didn't have to press any buttons to get a constant stream of hot water. Second time I did have to and found myself having to press the button quite a bit. This wouldn't be a problem if the button you needed to press was inside the shower cubicle. Shower curtains could do with being replaced by a door as they do cling to you and reduce an already smallish showering area.
Didn't get to use the on site diner as it is hardly ever open. I think the management are missing a trick here and should have this open 7 days a week. Also this is where you go for the wi-fi and so would be helpful to have it open more. Campsite is in a BT hotspot zone and so if you have broadband at home you can connect to this for free. Just remember your BT logon info. Signal is weak and gets lost intermittently.
Castle of Mey is well worth a visit with informative guides. Be aware it closes end of July/beginning of August as Prince Charles holidays there. Mary-Ann's cottage is also well worth a visit. Lots of cycle routes in the area. Dunnett beach is lovely and at most times of the year would be good for surfing/body boarding.
If you are travelling up to Thurso from the south I would recommend you getting petrol in Inverness as I think it must be about the cheapest place in the UK. Understandably Thurso is quite expensive and Wick is the nearest place for supermarket petrol.
Nothing would stop me from returning to this site other than the reason for going there. If the sole purpose was to spend some time on the beach then I would probably go to the Caravan Club site at Dunnett Bay. Probably would end up splitting my stay between the two. Aldi opposite the site is very useful as it was nice to eat something different from our usual motorhome meals.

Clean, well maintained site. Very friendly owner and staff. Stayed here for 2 nights and no problems with getting pitch. Also get wi-fi here which we hadn't had most of the time we were in the north of scotland.
Park is surrounded by very low wall which separates park from public path along clifftop to beach. This was ideal for us with dog but felt anyone could walk on site from this path.
Probably for this reason toilets/showers are locked with code. However, felt safe enough and no problems with noise. Great location to clean beach at Thurso Bay ideal for surfing and close enough for John O'Groats.
Pubs/restaurants and supermarket close by. Would stay here again.

We visited this site late on a rainy day after coming off Orkney earlier on rough seas and we didn't expect much, but were pleasantly surprised. The site is quiet despite being next to the main road and the facilities, toilet/shower block were clean and warm. They have a security lock access. We didn't use the bar/cafe but it looked well kept. The Site Manager was helpful and pleasant to deal with which always helps on a site for the first time when you are tired and cold and wet.
The views across to the Islands was superb and we were treated to a last minute change of weather and sunset which was terrific. Pitches we flat or slightly sloped and all grass, but the grass was well kept and the site must be well drained as there was no problem moving on and off the pitch. I'm not sure I would stay for many days on this site but as an overnight stop we couldn't have asked for more.

Excellent site. Very neat and tidy and probably the cleanest toilets I have ever seen, not a dead moth or spider in sight - and cleaned twice a day + lots of free hot water. Need a good memory to remember the access code for the loos - different ones for the boys and girls! All the facilities of Thurso very nearby,
But the best reason for staying at the site are the views up to Dunnet Head and over to Orkney.
The sound of the sea lulls you to sleep. Didn't eat in the diner, but looked very New England style, would have been good to have a slip in the site info detailing the kind of food on offer and the prices.

Stayed for one night, thoroughly enjoyed it. The owners were very friendly helpful people.
The small town of Thurso is a short but pleasant walk from the campsite. The views we had were beautiful, Scrabster harbour, the Orkneys and Dunnet Head.
The facilities on site were good. The diner was a great place to eat and excellent value for money. The toilets and shower blocks were very clean and were included in the price (loads of very hot water). The laundry room was great with two large sinks for hand washing, two washing machines and two dryers. The chemical toilet emptying facility was clean and smell free and the site had lots of recycling bins.
I would definitely use this site again.
