Great location, staff were very helpful and facilities were clean and presentable, whilst not the spanking new was well worth the visit. Those reviews lookng for perfection should question why go out. Shops, bars and coffee places near by. Site cafe closed Sunday and Mondays. However after driving all day a gentle stroll into town was well worth it, being only 150 meters. Childrens play area to hand and plenty of free hot water for showers and pot washing, all buildings appeared fresh and newly painted, would stay again. Oh and the views of the sea and cliffs were amazing.

Lovely views over looking the Pentland Firth. Apparently recently taken over and facilities need a good make over. Quite expensive (£18/night)but the 'Diner' was good value for money.
Laundry but nothing working (washers and dryers have died of old age)but the one in Thurso is first class.
Security a bit 'ifey' wide open to the public. Aldi supermarket right across the road and open until 6:00pm on Sundays.
Enjoyable stay though. Beautiful sunsets across to the Orkneys.
If you have time, go on to John O'Groats and do the 'Wildlife Boat Trip'

Being virtually in the middle of Thurso, this is not the quietest campsite you'll ever stay at.
All the amenities of the town are a very short stroll away and with a supermarket across the road from the site itself you are hardly struggling for supplies: Having said that Thurso is hardly a raging metropolis :-)
The site is still undergoing refurbishment following a change of hands but if the changes which are in place are indicative, then the future is bright.
A very pleasant site with, on a clear day, stunning views across the Pentland Firth to Orkney.
I'd certainly return.

Dated but adequate facilities. Has recently changed ownership and improvements ongoing. Site now walled off from public footpath.
We had not pre booked, arrived after reception had closed and were leaving for Orkney ferry before it opened in the morning. Telephoned mobile number and within 30 mins a very helpful gentleman came to our pitch to take our fees and give some useful advice re ferries.
Appeared to be a restaurant on site. In Thurso so all town facilities within walking distance.
Site not busy. Pitches not marked. Fairly level. Sea views.

A fairly exposed location overlooking the Orkneys. During our stay the weather was perfect with no wind and even the Old Man of Hoy was visible.
We arrived just as the owner was closing up, but he made us very welcome and told us where to find places to eat, shops, atms etc - a lovely helpful man. I think he has recently taken over the site and wish him every success with it.
There is a delightful looking cafe / restaurant on site with a comfortable looking sofa area, which I caught a glimpse of, and it would probably be much appreciated if the weather closed in. The loo block was spotless with free hot water in the showers.
Opposite the site is a Lidl, and Thurso itself is an interesting little town with a lovely beach and plenty of things to see nearby.

We stayed here for 1 night as we were touring scotland. We paid £17.00 for the night for two adults and electric hookup. The site is situated on the cliff tops with excellent views of the orkneys. The toilet and shower facilities are very good and clean. This site is under new management and the new owner is very friendly and helpful. There is a kids park next to the site.
The only issue we had with this site was its right next to the main road with no security for eg gates. So during the night cars were driving in and out to sit on the cliff tops. We paid to stay there and cars just seemed to wander in and out freely. I think some fencing or just a gate would stop this. Other than that site was not bad. I do think for this time of year the price was a little pricey, as it was per person also.

Wanted to stay for three nights but had to escape from the tail of a hurricane. The staff should tell us that such a heavy storm will arrive. The town of Thurso was well prepared: sand bags everywhere to fix everything but no warning on the camping site.
Nearly lost the tent.
Many thanks to the four wonderful neighbours who helped us to build down the tent - thanks again.
Thurso just five minutes walk, some shops there.

We really liked this site - when you can look out in an evening from the front of your tent and see nothing but sea between you and Iceland (the country) - that's special. The Orkney island of Hoy was also variously visible and invisible across the Pentland Firth, depending on climatic conditions - leading us to think that it may float away sometimes!
This is a spacious site - and you are not allowed to pitch closer to other units than 6 metres - although some people's idea of 6 metres is a bit woozy! There was lots of room and it's pretty flat and sumptuously green grassed, though it seems exposed. While we were there, there were no strong winds however.
The warden/s were very friendly and laid back - which we like - but only present at various times. They were accessible at all times by phone - even at 3.00am in the morning they said - but we didn't.
The facilities were large, clean and very adequate - although pretty functional in design in a local council sort of way. Access was by door code, which needed remembering - hard on the over 50's.Just one problem - no lightbulb in the washing up room - so late diners needed a torch!
There was no washing machine facility but there was a friendly laundrette in Thurso, near the large Co-op.
The downside could be that the cliff path in front of the campsite is frequented by local dogwalkers and that there is a public playground alongside too. We had no trouble however and would come back here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights, excellent views that just simply can't be beaten. Site is under new management with the new owners extremely friendly and helpful. Site is under going a refurbishment which it does need, but the facilities were clean if some what dated.
Only down side is the lack of a proper fence and gates at the edge of the caravan park which leads onto the cliff side path. There were some sheer drops at the edge of the cliff top path which made me nervous for our 2 young children.
If you have young kids it is best to pitch up further away from the cliff, although the views are not so impressive, but which is more important?. Views or your kids lives?

Site was nice and tidy, showers and toilets were clean. The site is under new owner-ship and the Owner was very friendly and helpful. The views from the site were absolutely beautiful, from the door of our tent we could see right across the water to the orkney islands.
We had 2 kids with us and they were well entertained the whole week. There is a kids park on site. By absolute fluke, we picked the week of the thurso gala. Only rained once the whole week too.
There is an Aldi right across the road from the site and the town is within easy walking distance. Would recommend. Looking forward to returning soon and the kids are also.
