This site is temporarily closed, the Caravan and Camping facilities at Strathclyde Country Park have now been taken over by the Caravan Club.
They are currently revamping the site and we understand that they will be open again September / October 2012 for reservations. We will update the listing at that time.

The site on first view is lovely, all grass sites, pick your own, loads of trees etc but it when you enter the toilet/shower facilities that things go downhill rapidly.
Very very dated with paint flaking off all over the ceiling and top windows (health and safety issue), cobwebs which have obviously been in residence for a long time and not removed in the time we were there.
The toilets, sinks, showers were cleaned but the walls were not! Four toilet blocks two already closed down.
On last night the ladies toilet block had 'locked itself' and had to walk to the other block on far side of site. We complained to reception and the gentleman in there said he was aware of the poor state of repair but there was nothing he could do and when told about the locked toilet block - 'yeah it keeps doing that'.
Only stayed due to friends family been close by in Motherwell, otherwise would have left on first night. On a more positive note Strathclyde Park is beautiful with loads to do for all ages, may go back when it has been taken over by Club.

Just returned from camping in Europe, still had that itch to do more, didn't realise that this site was so close to home. Very cheap £10 per night and £3. 40 ehu. On arrival was given maps, and parks pros and cons! We liked this site, had the one night noisy party, they left the next day, showers very basic, 10 mins walk to M&Ds, was told by reception this park was being privatised next year. Needs work/modernisation, not privatisation

We stayed were overnight on our way up north as family close by. On arrival site entrance looks really run down and dated, however staff friendly and welcoming.
We were given a map of the site and told to chose where we wanted to park up. The site was fairly quiet which was just as well as there seemed to be no order to the way the caravans were parked up.
To be fair this was probably due to the grass being really muddy, but there didn't seem to be anyone around to guide people how and where to park.
The camp site is very green and in a good location, just down the road from Scotlands theme park. Plenty of space for kids to play although only a few swings available and lots of area for dog walking.
On the downside the toilet block was disgusting! My husband said he had seen worse but I don't think I have. The ladies is all tiled walls and floor and the tiles were filthy.
The showers had a white plastic shower curtain which was stained orange at the bottom and this was working its way up the curtain! This same orange stuff stained the walls and floor of the shower.
This site is ideal if you are only staying over night and have your own facilities on board or family nearby where you can jump in their shower.

Just back from a 2 night stay at Strathclyde Country Park site in our touring caravan. We had full electric hook up and a choice of a large number of pitches in this extremely large and well situated site that has the potential to be one of the nicest situated sites on the west coast of Scotland with some investment.
The site is in need of a makeover. Despite it's stunning location, the site looks tired and run down. The shower blocks were dirty (although the water was hot and plentiful), with no facilities to mop up either before or after a shower, so a muddy, grass strewn shower area awaits you. Toilet blocks were warm though. £10 deposit is needed for key for the toilet.
Wash up area is only open until 9pm each evening, so if you need to wash up after that then too bad (I think that the warden may clocks off at 9pm). Having said that, the wardens we talked to over the 2 nights were very friendly and helpful, and there was no problem staying on the site for an extra couple of hours after our due check out time.
There is a small swing park in the middle of the touring pitches which was a bit like the rest of the site, tired and neglected.
It's location is stunning. Loads to do round about the area, the fantastic selection of water sports, sandy beach and other areas of interest in the country park itself, M & D's theme park a short walk away, a great Toby Carvery 2 mins walk away, a large Asda on a retail park with cinema and other eateries 5 mins away in the car - loads of potential for this site.
Fine for one or two nights if you are not to fussed, if you are looking for something a bit more luxurious then give it a miss.

Stopped off for one night on way to Kintyre. Found the site to be clean, the toilet facilities were dated but warm, the heating was on, also the sinks and toilets were clean so the surround decor was not too important.
The grass sites were muddy, perhaps this could be improved with hardstandings on any upgrade of the site. Water, litter and chemical waste facilities were adequate and clean.
Nearby restaurant which we did not use, lovely lake which we walked to, the park in general was a pleasant surprise, it was litter free and well kept.
It was a convenient stop off point for one night, not sure we would stay for longer but I imagine anyone into water sports would enjoy a longer stay.
We were not too aware of the noise from the motorway, there is 24 hour security on the site. We also told the warden we were wanting an early start and he kindly made arrangements for us to drop the key off.

We visited this site as it is local and thought we’d try it out to end the season off. We weren’t sure what it would be like as it’s the first council site we have visited. The truth is that once we were there we really didn’t want to come home, we loved it.
When we arrived it was very wet and the grass circle for the electric tents that we were in was very muddy. There are two circles for EHU for tents and the other one wasn’t nearly as bad but as a wheelchair user we wanted to be near the disabled toilet.
Unfortunately it was the wrong choice but after two days of not being able to leave the tent they moved us across to the caravan area and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful if they tried.
The facilities are a little dated but clean and very usable especially the disabled toilet and shower, the toilet and shower are in two separate rooms but it’s all in the one private area that you pay £10 deposit for the key.
When we arrived there was a musty smell as its not used too often but the cleaner did everything she could to rectify this, including speaking to us as much as possible to see if the smell was disappearing and it worked so a special thank you to her.
As it was September it was quiet through the week but busy at the weekends, which made it very peaceful weekly holiday but great socially at the weekend, the perfect mix. We have two dogs and they loved it. It was a nice wooded walk to get to the main park that has a loch you can walk all the way round and lots of grass areas to give them plenty of exercise.
We don’t have children but there is only a couple of swings on site but the main park has a large free play area and also m&d’s which is expensive but lots of fun. The shop on site doesn’t store much but there is a tesco extra at Bellshill and an asda in Hamilton both within a couple of miles away. There are also lots of take aways in the area that deliver to the site and I would recommend Noodles and Rice in Bellshill, so good we used them twice in our two week visit.
If it is at all possible we would like to finish the season there every year and it’s the first park out of about eight that we’ve visited in the last two years that we’ve wanted to go back too. Keep up the good work guys.

Stayed here one night 26 September. On arrival the Warden (Patrick) was very helpful and approachable. Cost was £5 with £10 deposit for key to front gate and toilet/shower block. I was also given a wee map of the area which was helpful.
Pitch was flat and ideal. Toilet block was fine, probably on close inspection it could do with a wee freshen up but served my purpose. Good areas to walk the dog and plenty going on in the area for kids (nearby amusements, water sports). Toby Carvery nearby as is shopping centres.
The Warden leaves duty at 7pm and is not back til morning, however Strathclyde Country Park Wardens regularly patrol area throughout the night, sometimes their truck did wake me. The motorway is nearby and can be bit noisy, would imagine this may disturb some visitors.
I really enjoyed my stay here. Wardens helpful and friendly. Great place to stop over particularly if you have a dog and as long as you are a responsible owner this site will allow them to stay. This site is not part of the C&CC. I am not yet a member so found my stay cheap and very relaxed.

Visited this site one Friday night in the middle of June and was so pleasantly surprised that we stayed for 2 nights. Plenty of pitches to choose from as it wasn't very busy and the weather was lovely. Good flat pitch with plenty of space for our 3 bed tent and car.
Toilet / shower block was very clean and dishwashing area same. Playpark was right behind tent area also which was good for keeping an eye on the kids while sitting having a bbq.
Only problem I had was waking up in the middle of the night with the sound of traffic, but maybe because I'm not used to this and it was my first time camping.
Reception sells few basic items but site 5 minute drive to Asda in Hamilton and lots of activities within Strathclyde Park for things to do for kids, like M&Ds which is really good (be prepared to spend some money though), water sports and play parks.
Toby Carvery within walking distance which provides excellent value and the Alona which 2 minute walk away also.

We stayed at this park for one night in sept after going to Scotland game.
The young fella on the reception was very nice and helpful and there was a shop selling a few food and drink things, didn't use so cant comment.
While driving to our pitch we thought the site look slightly untidy ie. Grass and hedges overgrown but then again it hasnt stopped raining for a month so might be the reason.
Once at our pitch we didn't reverse on to the grass just stopped on the hardstanding area as ground was wet, again not really anything they can do in this weather. The toilet block looked ok when first entering but in close or not even close inspection they where in need of an overhaul new shower curtains as the one they have are brown for the bottom 10inches.
I would stay here again but only for the one night or 2 at the very most.
On the sat night we went to the Toby cavary and was excellent so if heading north or south stop in for the night and get a nice meal.
The noise from road is not that bad but I suppose during the day will be really loud.
