We stayed at Wysdom Park over an extended weekend during the July 2013 heatwave. Sandwiched between a high school and the main A361 Burford-Lechlade road, it is a small, compact (though some might be tempted to say claustrophobic site), but with a friendly atmosphere that allays much of the anxiety of being pitched perhaps a bit too close to ones neighbour. Most of the pitches are well-trimmed grass plots, with some hard-standing plots further inside the camp – many occupied on a semi-permanent basis. All the pitches make good use of trees and foliage to aid privacy and help shield campers from each other.

The plot we were on was a grass pitch located right next to the fence by the road beneath trees that offered shade during the morning, but which opened up to the sun during the afternoon and evening. Ordinarily that much shade would have been disappointing, plunging as it did the bedroom of our caravan into virtual darkness. However, in the weather prevalent when we stayed it was actually a blessing to be masked from the sun’s intense rays before one had yet to fully wake up. And, yes, it is undeniable that the traffic noise can be intrusive (the road being busier than usual on account of a major air show being staged that weekend), although it does quieten down at night and all but the lightest of sleepers will undoubtedly adjust to it.

In terms of amenities, there are water taps dotted about the site and a facilities block with two showers and adjacent toilets located next to the warden’s caravan. It appears that the showers were once demarcated by gender, but now the signs have disappeared and they are available solely on a first-come-first-serve basis. However, this does mean that if you want total privacy from members of the opposite sex when showering you need to bolt the outer door, effectively taking a toilet out of commission in the process. The showers operate using a 30p token, both tokens collected from and money deposited in an ‘honesty bag’ pinned to the notice board. Around the rear of the block is the washing-up point, the elsan point and another toilet.

Out and about, once the busy A40 roundabout is negotiated, all the charm of Burford village centre lies just ten minutes stroll from the site – including a Sunday morning car boot sale held in a field across the road. However, those charms come with the caveat that prices in its shops, pubs and restaurants (and, alas, its car boot sale too!) reflect Burford’s status as a magnet for both wealthy locals and overseas tourists. Therefore, those with a less substantial purse may wish to head for nearby Carterton, which is ten minutes drive away and where pubs like the Beehive offer wining and dining at more reasonable rates. There is also a large Co-op supermarket in the centre of Carterton. In addition, dozens of enchanting Cotswold villages and attractions are also within an easy drive, as are the towns of Witney, Faringdon and the ever-delightful riverside haunt of Lechlade, with its beautiful walks and boat trips along the meandering upper Thames.

Oxford is also about half-hour’s drive from the site, although if you do plan on spending a day in the ‘city of dreaming spires’ avail yourself of the frequent Park-and-Ride bus service at the Pear Tree Interchange off the A40, rather than be fleeced by the punitive parking charges in force in the City Centre. Regular local bus services also connect Burford with Oxford and the Cotswold’s main tourist haunts. Indeed, if those campers with concessionary bus passes plan their journey right then they can also use the bus to convey them back from the town to the camp site, avoiding the need to climb back up the steep hill that is Burford’s main shopping street.

In summary, Wysdom Park is a small, friendly adult site with a reasonable tariff (£15 per night) that is ideally located for exploring Oxford and the Cotswolds.

Just returned from Wysdom touring park and felt I had to write a review. Super site, very well maintained. Toilets and showers extremely clean. Good location with Burford only a 5 minute walk away with plenty of shops, cafe and restaurants and pubs. Would recommend a visit to the garden centre which is only a ten minute walk away. Friendly and helpful wardens. Can't wait to go back a real find. Thank you Kay and Geoff.

A little gem in a beautiful setting. Everyone was very friendly and the wardens were so helpful that we couldn't help but enjoy our stay. Even the weather was beautiful.

The shower and toilet facilities are spotlessly clean, with plenty of hot water for 30p. There are lovely bakeries and coffee shops in Burford, and some lovely shops. You can take the bus to Witney, Oxford etc. Very easily.

Thanks Geoff and Kay, and we hope to see you again soon.

Perfect and spotless. A great site 10 out of 10. Showers / toilet spotless. The site also spotless lots of water taps around the site lovely and quiet and the village of burford is so quaint. We will be returning. I can see this site being fully booked most of the summer so get in while you can. I can honestly say this is one of the best sites I have visited in the UK. Well maintained pitches and gardens. To sum it up in one word, PERFECT. A big thank you for having us.

It was my first time to stay at the site and definitely not the last! wonderful garden campsite, no problem with the road noise, The site and facilities are in lovely clean condition. I share the view that perhaps a door could be placed between the showers and toilets so if some one requires the loo they don't have to wait for the shower area to become free.

The pitches are of a good size hard standing with a grass area next ti big enough to park two vehicles next to each other if need be, same with the hard standing area. I travel a lot and have stayed at many campsites even the caravan club campsites as well as camping & caravan site both of which I am a member and this site rates amongst the top ten!

I salute the wardens as it is without a doubt that make this little treasure of a campsite. The shops are a pleasant close by walk & those indulging in liquid refreshment the stagger home is a very short one.

Superb, lovely, friendly site with fantastic wardens. Clean toilets and showers, great all pitches having electric hook up too.

Only stayed one night, but would definitely go back - pitch size superb, even with a relatively good size camper - would easier have room for awning if required.

A five minute and very pleasant walk in Burford, lots of shops/supermarket should the need arise.

Would give you 11/10, if I could.

After reading previous reviews we were disappointed in this site. We also felt very closed in as the front of our motorhome was right up to the front edge of our pitch. Also we did not feel comfortable at being behind a locked barrier at night with no means of opening it ourselves in an emergency. Agree with comments on toilet block would be better to have 2 separate toilets. We would not return again.

This site is private and peaceful, even though I could hear the traffic from the nearby roads. However, this didn't bother me. The owners were away, but the lady warden was so friendly and helpful. The facilities were adequate for the size of the site and clean. The only downside was there was nowhere immediate to walk the dog. Outside the gate to the right belonged to Burford School (no dogs allowed on that street. ) To the left were two very busy roads with no proper sidewalks, so it was a bit hairy walking there. Bus stops were fairly near, but across a death-defying roundabout. However, once over there, it was possible to go over a style into a nice dog-walking area. Burford is within walking distance and is picturesque. Witney is a bus or car-ride away and is a lovely little market town. I enjoyed my three days here and would definitely return.

Just not our type of site. The pitches were small. Road noise was awful. Our pitch backed onto the main road. I agree with the previous comment that no where to walk the dog. Loos and Shower very good, spotless.

The pitches themselves were rather small and we felt claustrophobic I'm afraid. In fact we left a day early.

Burford itself is very interesting and within walking distance. Have been to nicer villages in the cotswolds missed the quality craft shops.

Perhaps this site suits some people and apparently they are always busy. But not for us.

Well what a find, booked this site for a week after reading the reviews on uk campsites and they were very true.

I was a bit nervous as it was only £15 per night and I thought we might end up in a farmers field but the site is well laid out and electric is included, no charge for dogs or awning,

The facilities are basic 2 showers and 2 toilets but are cleaned twice a day so were never dirty.

The wardens Geoff and Kay could not have been nicer, we enjoyed it so much we ended up staying almost 16 nights and have booked another 10 nights in October,

I don't think anyone could find much wrong, the only thing missing is a separate toilet as the toilets are in the shower rooms.
