Having booked well in advance, we turned up here a day late last July, the Warden frowned and said he was now fully booked as he thought we were a no show. Back to Sheringham then. 'Hold on, someone has left early,' bit of frowning, shuffling about and 'follow me.' He jumped on his Raleigh Burner and we were on a good pitch in the top left corner for 5 days. Top bloke, even managed to get us a few more days if we fancied staying.
The site itself is very pleasant although I wouldn't wan't to be too near the play area and we have kids, it's just a bit intense.
As others have said it's a novelty hearing lions and bandicoots at night (anything is better than loud music at 1am) and Africa Alive is worth a look if you have kids or not, the Falconry display was very enjoyable, you get a discount if on site and we ended up going quite a few times.
Toilets and showers are fine, can get crowded though.
A mobile chip shop turned up on Friday night, that seemed to go down well.
Kessingland beach is quite depressing really, like a wasteland with dogs on it, I can imagine it's a popular suicide spot.
The pub at the entrance to the site is good with various carvery / curry evenings and they are child friendly.
Car boot on Sunday worth a gander if you are an early riser.
The town itself is very quiet.
Nice clean and tidy site that's well organised. We found though, that apart from the zoo there isn't a massive amount to do without getting in the car.

What a truly lovely site! Quiet, good, spaced pitches, friendly wardens.
There is a decent toilet/shower block at the entrance to the site, 4 showers in the ladies and 8-10 loos. Hot water at all times during the day and night. Campsite was quite full but it was still peaceful.
There is a children's play area at the far end of the site and I have to say I didn't hear any of the children (or the lions!) The dawn chorus is loud but it's wonderful and it's quite amusing to hear the odd wolf whistle and cackles from the parrots along with the blackbirds each morning!
The site is split into two with fields on either side of the entrance. The field on the left is slightly smaller and probably better sheltered. All pitches have ehu.
Site dog friendly although the dog walk is the same size as my garden (small!) You can walk along the entrance track but there are signs everywhere asking you to keep dogs on leads (due to Afria Alive!)
There is a decent pub at the entrance to the site - it served good, hot meals quite quickly on the Friday night. Kessingland itself doesn't have a huge amount of amenities but every supermarket imaginable is within 5 mins drive on the A12. Kessingland beach is mostly shingle but Southwold is only 10 mins drive away.
Will definitely be returning.

We visited this site for half term May/June when the site was full but even so, it didn't feel overcrowded. Would summarise as follows:
Good points:
1. Large, spacious pitches, slightly sloping. The site is sectioned off by hedges and trees giving a very pleasant outlook.
2. Helpful, welcoming wardens
3. Spotless shower/toilet blocks with very roomy cubicles in the showers. Lots of hot water and a separate area curtained off to get dressed and undressed with a bench to sit on and dry your feet!
4. We were given, as we had requested, a pitch near to the facilities block and 'next door' to our friends in their van - all organised before our arrival and just as we wanted without any problems
5. Great location, easy to find, well signposted, good facilities nearby for shopping and not too far to travel to local attractions. (Morrisons only 10 mins drive for fuel and food).
6. We had expected noise from the Africa Alive zoo next door but heard nothing but the birds (no lions roaring).
7. Nice pub outside the entrance to the site, which did Carvery meals (£6 each and well worth it) and Curry Night at £5.95 for all you could eat. Food was excellent, service good and we were allowed into the bar area with a dog. However, drinks, even soft drinks, were rather expensive in our view.
8. Big laundry room with washer, dryer and sinks for handwashing as well as iron and board, and rotary lines outside. Indoor dishwashing with large sinks. All spotless.
Bad points (only 4 it has to be said)
1. Almost impossible to pick up any kind of TV signal - tried the status aerial and an outdoor one, without success. Very slow on mobile broadband too and the site Wi Fi was out of action while we were there.
2. Insufficient lighting across the site around the actual pitches. No lights on EHU posts etc.
3. We felt that for a site of this size, it really needed additional shower / toilet facilities as there was inevitably a queue at busy times. OH even had to queue for the toilets in the mens block.
4. The ground is very hard and even rock pegs didn't want to be hammered into place - we broke several while trying! Advice is, take a strong lump hammer and even then, be prepared to work hard when putting up an awning (or tent).
The area around the site was lovely. Had great days out in Southwold, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. Our teenage kids really loved Yarmouth - typical seaside town with a funfair, long sandy beach, and a very large promenade, which all looked well cared for and clean. We also took a boat trip on the Norfolk Broads from Oulton.
Would definitely put Kessingland on our 'return site' list. Overall 8/10.

We have been to Kessingland three times now and love it. The toilet block is always immaculate and plenty of hot water ( in fact it was a bit too hot when we visited the 2nd week in May this year ) The wardens were very friendly and helpful ( especially when asked if our daughter her partner and three week old baby could park by our tent for convenience whilst visiting us )
The wildlife park gives us no problems, we think the Seagulls that seem to appear at what must be feeding times make more noise ( and we are in a tent ) Local shops etc can be walked or cycled to without too much effort if you are reasonably fit.
The pitches etc are a lovely size too, and even when completely full ( as it was last year ) it still doesn't feel packed out. Our only problem is the hard ground, we just couldn't get the dog stakes in the ground properly at all this year and with a big friendly but over excitable Labby cross we often had to hang on to him when sitting outside the tent, so any suggestions on that one gratefully received. There is a very small doggy walk for those quick wee wee breaks which is great for last thing at night or early morning with a bursting puppy ( yep we had one of those too ) and then you can walk along the lane going away from the wildlife park for longer walks ( with an early boot sale on Sundays )
A fish and chip van visits the site on Friday evenings as well, there is also a small children's play area at the back of the site which has safety bark on the ground. So all in all with good clean modern facilities this is a nice relaxing friendly site, and the toilet blocks etc were only shut between 10.30am till 12pm.

We stayed here over the bank holiday week at the end of may and what a fantastic place it is. The site is wonderful, the staff are excellent, the location is superb, and me and my family thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Africa Alive next door is a great day out with plenty to do and see. Southwold is definitely worth a visit, with a lovely beach, pier etc if a tad pricey! Lots to do, a great site. And a lovely part of the world make this a highly recommended site!

What a lovely camp if you want to lay back at night and hear the lions roar.
The facilities on site are clean and the family rooms are huge.
Nothing was particularly close to the site so the time seemed to involve lots of driving and the africa alive wildlife park took us about 2 hours to meander round with a 5 year old and a 3 year old so would not say it has value for money

On arrival were met by the warden who got on his bike and led us to our pitch. There is a small children's play area and a tiny dog walk.(better to walk outside and along the entrance road there is a poo bin there too).
The site is right next door to a wildlife park Africa Alive which depending on the direction the wind is blowing how loudly you can hear it. The toilet block seemed quite modern and fairly clean, shame there is a 30 second timer on the showers so you have to keep pressing the button in else you end up covered in soap!
Site is basically a big field with no shelter and as the week went on it got busy and there were rows and rows of caravans. As we were pitched on the perimeter fence as far away from the entrance as possible we hoped we would not have a problem getting out.

When we arrived the very helpful receptionist told us Kessingland was a place for great sunshine, by the time we were at our pitch the heavens opened and the tent was soaked, the very helpful staff offered us help with the aid of a mop and bucket so we were soon off and running.
The site was very clean and well maintained with a very small dog area, there is a shop that sells the essentials, there is a good play park for the kids and Africa live is on the door step (you can ear the animals at night and in the morning, but it doesn't restrict your peace and quite other than scaring our dog)
Sunday brings a car boot that is a minute walk from the camp, it was lashing down when we went but it was still well attended.
A small village 5 minutes walk away covers all your needs for groceries and papers plus a Chinese chippy is a couple of minutes drive away, and if you need more Morrisons is 5 minutes drive away.
Nearby locations include Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft and if you have plenty of energy take a trip to the nearby maize maze its great fun and you can spend a great half day there unraveling the clues when you find them.
All in all really enjoyed this site and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

This was our first adventure since buying a caravan and I have to say it was a very nice introduction to caravanning.
The staff were friendly and the site very well kept. All the facilities were clean and my 2 year old was more than happy with the children's play area.
Fish & Chip van comes to the site on Fridays and the shops are only a short drive away.
The ground is quite hard so take a mallet or a strong man!
Africa alive is next door and some noise is heard from there, but all in all not enough to worry.
We've been looking around the area for this year and have decided to return as we were so pleased last year.

Having recently become hooked on Camping and Carvanning Club sites this was our second visit to one of their sites. We were not disappointed. The site is a not too large and has very good facilities - which were always clean and never crowded despite the site being full over the weekend. There is a children's play area consisting of two swings and a climbing frame / slide combo. The wardens were very good and tried to put those with children close to the play area. Continuing the family theme there are two family rooms which have a shower, toilet sink, baby bath, a chiar and lost of hooks. You have to get a key from reception (£5 deposit), but we found it really useful. The site is very flat and the soil drains well - this means that it is very hard - remember your mallet - we had rain whilst we were there and the ground remained just as hard.
You never find perfection and a few downsides (for us at least) were i) there is only one facilities block and this is to one side of the site so depending on where you are pitched you may have a longer walk. That said it is never more than about five minutes; ii) all the pitches are electric hookup (and therefore you have to pay for the hookup) we don't need a hookup and it would have been nice to have had the option not to have it
The site is in Kessingland and next to Africa Alive! a wildlife park specialising in animals from Africa. It is very close to the wildlife park, but it is quite a long walk down the drive to other places. Africa Alive! is recommended we found it interesting and our one year old loved it especially the chance to roar at the lions and to see a giraffe in the flesh. The animals can be noisy at times, but it was nowhere near as loud as we might have expected and we were on the side of the site closest to the park.
Kessingland itself is not a great deal to write home about, there are some local facilities, but Lowestoft is not far away and Morrison's supermarket is about a 5 minute drive away. There is lots to do in the surrounding area and this site is well placed for getting around as it is very close to the A12 - in case you are worried we hardly heard any road noise (perhaps the birds from the wildlife park drowned it out!)
All in all it is a really good site, which we would highly recommend.
