This is our fifth time that we have stayed at the Garden Caravan site. We enjoy the peace and quiet that this site brings.
It is set in a lovely location with lots of wildlife and easy access to the N Norfolk Coast. The pitches are big even if some are on a slope, which really is not a problem.
Toilet block is clean and functional.
This is one of our favourite campsites in the area.
We visited early in June and there were only 4 other units on the site. We are visiting again at the end of June and I think it will be a bit more busy.
This site does not disappoint

We were late booking this for the August Bank Holiday weekend (beginning of July) but thankfully there was just enough space for all six of our units: Our first choice unable to accept tents anymore.
No deposit req'd on booking and a couple of days before we were due we had a call from the owners to check we were all still going and to inform us that he had managed to site us all together: Which was nice.
On arrival, it was clear that the site would be maxxed out for the weekend as there were 'reserved' boards everywhere and there were already plenty of campers dotted about, but we were pleased to find we had a section of the site all to ourselves.
I was surprised to find that the pitches were not that level and trees tend to hang across some pitches. We watched one caravan back in and the Status aerial disappeared noisily in amongst the foliage as it was positioned, so bear that in mind.
Electric and TV points abound, although some of the TV sockets were a bit rusty and the feed was pretty poor, so maybe a refit req'd soon perhaps.
There are freezers in the site office for campers along with loads of tourist info and it appears to be always open.
There are dog walks leading out from the Garden through the woods but they must remain on a leash.
No one welcomed us, but to be honest it didn't matter as we already had our pitch numbers and a sign at the office advised to find a spot and the owners would be around later.
Unusually there was a price per person and for electric but no pitch or awning fee which was good.
No playground I noticed, and not much room for kids to 'let go' without impacting on somebody, unfortunately. I can see that being a problem when it's a bit too chilly to go to the beach!
We had 'Neighbours from Hell' for a couple of days with a young dog barking all the time and 2 children shouting and playing from seven o'clock in the morning until God knows when. Whatever happened to being responsible for your kids and animals?
However that's not the site's fault to be fair. Also I should mention at this point that there was a distinct lack of traffic noise. A couple of times we heard a siren way off in the distance but in the main, there was no noise at all bar from the odd tractor unloading in the barns outside. There's also minimal light pollution so if you like laying back and looking at the stars, this could be for you.
Toilets and showers were clean (so I'm told as I used the caravan) with the showers being massive areas and plenty of hot water. Sluice and grey water in a separate room on the end of the amenities block plus dish washing facilities under cover as well.
However, trying to lift a brim-full waste container high enough to pour into the sluice (around 2-3 ft high) could be awkward if you aren't particularly strong. It rather negates having wheels on it, I feel.
There's no shop on site, but Fakenham is barely 10 minutes away where there's a choice of Morrisons with fuel or a Tesco without. However the Fish & Chips from 'Drifters' opposite Tesco, are very good and not badly priced either.
If you are a connoisseur then French's Fish & Chips at Wells are probably the best in the country, let alone the county: The queue's will attest to that!
If you are into walking or laning there are loads of rights of way to follow, one actually going right past the site entrance!
North Norfolk Railway is around 30 minutes distant and about the same to the Muckleburgh Collection which is a military museum housed within an old artillery training camp (they have an excellent cafe there).
We had a great time at The Garden and one of our party decided they would stay on until the end of the week so I think that speaks volumes.

This site was recommended by friends but we were warned about the grumpy welcome! They were not wrong! The site itself is lovely.
Our pitch had been reserved and we were grateful of the sign informing us of our pitch number. Myself and my son were very pleased with ourselves as we managed to put a new tent up between us and were just pegging it out when a car stopped next to us and the occupant shouted a welcome to the site along the lines of 'You've put it in the wrong place, you'll have to move it'! Apparently tents have to be longways on with the pitch number directly in the centre. I tried to explain that once we had added the awning it would be square but was told it had to be moved! There was no offer of help - just a story of how another camper had arrived with an 8m tent, which was too big in his opinion but they had managed to fit him in and told him not to come back! (Our tent is only 5m!). So, in the middle of one of the hottest days of the year he left a mum and a 13 year old to move a 6 man tent!
However, ignoring the unique welcome, and being bellowed at again that the dog needed to be on a lead - when she already was, the site is lovely.
Very quiet in pleasant woodland with a den building area for the kids. There was a freezer for campers to use and another fridge and freezer selling life's apparent essentials - eggs and Magnums (though milk would be handy!?).
Great 'Spar' shop in nearby Docking and also a chippy. Toilet block OK, though water pressure in shower was very low and the loos took a while to refill when flushed. Plentiful hot water and 3 washing up sinks. Site does recycle. A small play area, sandpit or swing on the centre grass would have been a nice touch for younger kids.
We would return - though is quite pricey (£50 included 2 nights with hookup, 2 adults and 2 children and being shouted at twice.

An ideal and very peaceful site, ideal for North Norfolk : my 5th visit.
Well kept and the pitches are very roomy and protected by the Victorian wall.
No strict site rules just plain common sense, ideal site for experienced tourers who don't want to be involved with a commercial day to day facility.
Not much for families who have young children, but plenty of open space and fresh air. Would always recommend.

Regular visitors to Barmer will be reassured to know that the site has not changed owners as we feared from this review and is as delightful as ever. We were there last month (oct) and the grass was as usual, immaculate (new mower that picks up cuttings!)
The toilet block still has unlimited free, very hot water and is cleaned daily even when there are few customers (we had never noticed the rawlplug holes, but yes there are a couple from a previous shower fitment). This minor fact is, for us, more than compensated for by the booth size (swinging the proverbial cat), reliable water temperature control and curtain between shower and clothes. Oh, and the free range chickens are still laying.
So returners, you are assured of your continued satisfaction. Newcomers give it a try if you like a peaceful orderly site. In our estimation it's well up in the top quarter of sites we have visited over the years---long may it stay so !

Noticed mixed comments from other reviewers. Can only report as we found. So:
Plusses:- Approach road not as bad as reported. We've been on worse. Paid £16 per night for 2 adults with EHU. Again, found worse. Pitch where you like provided it's not reserved, pitches about CC size. Site in walled garden which lends itself to shelter from prevalent winds. Very much a plus for me. Nicely maintained site at time of visit. Owner friendly enough. Good dog walks if you have one. Recycling bins provided. Good hot water for washing up. Bonus point for spinner in clothes washing area. Extra point for resident Barn Owl.
Minusses:- Shower block needs refurb. Although it was cleaned daily it could do with a good overhaul. No privacy cubicles. Water pressure poor in showers, which have those clingy curtains, ugh! Site is sloping so bring blocks.
If shower block upgraded would be a very good site. Still rates on the plus side so would return.

This is without doubt a gorgeous site. We had never stayed at a site with tents before but we found the mix of caravans in with tents lovely and we spoke to some lovely people.
With two dogs it was great with walks direct from the site without getting into a car.
Fakenham isn't far and has a great Tesco for everything you might need. We use our own facilities in our caravan but what there was seemed clean and well looked after.
What does let this site down is the cost. We paid £9 per adult (two of us) plus and extra charge for using electric making 3 nights over £60! We have paid £30 for just as good facilities.
Clearly though people are willing to pay as the site was pretty full.
For a long weekend, it is lovely and I would go again.

Visited over the Bank Holiday weekend with a touring caravan and awning.
At the end of a narrow and poorly surfaced driveway you reach a walled garden, there is a small rally field and then round into the main campsite. The pitches are all grass, many backing onto the garden wall. This gives a sheltered and unique ambience. This is the good part but it sadly goes downhill from here.
Organisation is at a minimum, when we arrived a harassed and distracted lady basically told us to find our own pitch as her husband had gone to hospital and she had too much to do, having never visited before we had no idea where anything was and found this lack of welcome disappointing. A few minutes later she demanded to know if we had parked our car by the toilet block and why! Bearing in mind we hadn't had a chance to unhook the van or start to pitch I found her very rude. She continued to go from pitch to pitch shouting at every one as she went! We later paid her son £93 for 4 nights for 2 adults and one child only for the husband/father to drive over the following morning and demand to be paid!
The size of the pitches is good and they appear well drained. The grounds are weedy and unkempt which is a shame as the gardens could be beautiful with some work and attention to detail.
There are no facilities apart from a dilapidated toilet block. This really has seen better days, the showers whilst a good size have a very poor water pressure and need a good clean. The tiles are old and have rawl plug holes in them from previous fitments and are dirty. The drain grills in the shower floors were matted with hair and toilet rolls often ran out. I never saw the block cleaned in four days and my son told me that the gents showers were in an even worse state!
Having paid £93 for 4 nights I expected a clean site with approachable owners and tidy safe environs, none of which we found.
We will not be returning as the site was dirty, unkempt, expensive and and the owners rude and disorganised. Think twice before you book!

The Garden Caravan Site is away from the main road down a small country lane.
The site is well kept amongst high walls and trees. There is plenty of space between units which can be a rarity nowadays. The toilet & shower block is closed everyday between 13. 00 & 14. 00 for cleaning.
Upon arrival you just place your caravan on an unreserved pitch, later in the day the owner comes around to check your name and then pay him later in the week if you are busy.
Part of the site is a one way system for vehicles entering & exiting.
There is also a pleasant dog walk in the wooded area.
However, I felt that the prices were a little steep. Instead of charging so much per unit per night the charge is per person, alright if there are only 2 people in the caravan but extremely high if you consist of a family.

Very nice site if a little difficult to find.
Not a site I would recommend to motor homers, it is just too expensive, £37 for two nights. I can get a week in Germany for that!
Not a lot to do locally, no pub etc. Miles away from anywhere but certainly peaceful.
A caravan site for holidays. Most people I spoke to were 'fairly' happy but most had reservations of some sort. Somehow, not a comfortable site.
