Superb caravan site! We stayed from a Thursday to Monday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Immaculate, clean facilities with a good pitch layout. All kirkcudbright's shops only a 4 minute walk away, with the scenic harbour area only 8 minutes away! Prices for pitches much cheaper than usual sites in this area making it all the more pleasurable. Will visit again.

Booked in for one night on the way back from Arran, we were trying to find better weather, it wasn't sunny but dry, and the position of the campsite looking out over the town gave a very nice outlook to our pitch. The site has a convenient path directly into town with shops, pubs and a lovely Scottish restaurant nearby. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed for three nights in all. The toilets were clean, and plenty of hot water in the free, but small showers. Washing machine, spinner and dryer available in the laundry room and always useful for drying your damp towels-washing lines! The proprietor was friendly, easy going, and helpful, would definitely stay again.

Chose this site in order to be within easy walking distance to town.
Pros:
1. Nice views from most pitches.
2. Dog friendly with wonderful woodland walks at back of site.
3. Shops and a very good pub (Masons Arms) within staggering distance!
Cons:
4. Facilities not as clean as Club sites - especially the disabled shower/toilet etc - seemed not to have been cleaned for a long time and not properly equipped for a disabled person.
5. Many of caravans empty - perhaps locals just using site as a storage or weekend break area.
6. We were aware of the open public access of site - although fairly quiet during our short stay we would not have used site had we been aware of earlier reports of 'local asbo's' etc!
We reported the shortcomings of the disabled facilities to the resident warden (who was very friendly by the way. ) It could be that he has too much to do on his own - similar club sites would have 4 wardens - 2 on duty, 2 off duty.

We have just come home from camping at Silvercraigs for six nights. It was a first visit for us, and first impressions were very good. We were in a tent with electric hook up. The site was clean and tidy thanks to the hard work done by the helpful warden. Toilets and showers were decent and hot water in plentiful supply. The site itself was quiet and peaceful, however, on our first night the police had to be called to rowdy youths who were drinking until the early hours and smashing bottles on the footpath, although they were on the children's playground it was only about fifty yards from our tent. After another incident involving drunken youths throwing cans of beer at a vehicle and foul mouthed abuse we decided to cut short our trip by one night. Kircudbright is a delightful small town, with a Tesco supermarket within five minutes walk, and a variety of shops. This area is beautiful. Although the site is well kept, I would not choose a site so close to a town with public access again.

We read reviews before we booked as it was some years since our last visit, and agree with all the comments. Beautiful weather, lovely position, good walks, clean loos etc. BUT the site is part of a public park. There was some noise, foul language and drinking going on, but mostly at a distance from the vans. However on our third evening, at about 10pm, a gang of teenagers ran screaming round the site, in and out of the vans, banging on the sides to make the vans rock. The police were called but the gang had left the park. At 11pm they returned and jumped on the bonnet of our van, denting it, and quite honestly scaring me. The police came again but the gang had disappeared to the town. We were shaken up and just left, driving home through the night. Phone conversations with the council have been to no avail .

This site was ideal for us. Laid back Warden, helpful, always around keeping the site spick and span, few signs saying what to do or not.
Showers free, free sockets for your hairdryer, spotless toilets. Glorious views down to the Artists Town below and up to the clear stars in dark skies at night - though being higher up means it's breezy so you have to layer up to sit outside.
Perfect if you have a dog - a short scamper and you're in the extensive woods above the site for a long walk. Within walking distance of the fantastic fish and chips shop within sight of the harbour: they'll still be hot if someone's fetched them. A fantastic base for exploring The Stewartry and other parts of Galloway -beaches, gardens, castles, wildlife.
If I had to have a quibble, it's this: the pitch markers seem too close. We came back to find a motorhome beside us, and its back door was FOUR paces from ours. Luckily they didn't mind our spaniel, and they didn't have feral children, but it was a bit chummy. This early in the season, we could park up a bit farther away as there was no-one on the other side, but in high season you may be on top of your neighbours. However, we'd be very happy to come back.

This campsite is without a doubt one of the very best sites I have ever used. The facilities are second to none and the campsite's location is pretty much perfect.
As we drove up the hill to the site, we were a little concerned about dragging ourselves up that after a few ales, but luckily enough there is a short path on the other side of the site that takes you pretty much into the town centre. The Tesco Express is a godsend (5 mins away) and I can heartily recommend The Masonic Arms pub.
Quite a small site, so I would phone and book ahead.

We picked this site as a stopover on our way down to tour the North of England, and found it a gem of a site.
Situated on an elevated position right behind the pleasant town of Kirkcudbright, the site overlooks the town, making a very pleasant place to watch the sun go down on a summer evening.
I can't think of many other campsites so nicely positioned.
A little way down the hill is a Tesco Express, but the middle of town is easily within walking distance, and it's a nice town to have a stroll around.
This seems to be a council-owned site.
It's very clean (good toilets and showers) and well tended, and the warden is a bit of a character.
We'll happily use this site again. I can see why the other reviewers are regulars.

Just back from our first ever camping trip as a family. We chose this site because it is close (350 yards) to grandparents!
We were welcomed onto the site by the warden, who was friendly, and found most of the other campers (mainly caravans and motorhomes) to be very friendly, helpful and full of advice.
The toilet/shower facilities were spotlessly clean and kept that way and the water was hot and plentiful. There is a small laundry as well, although we didn't need to use this.
The site has amazing views across Kirkcudbright, which is a wonderful little town, and over to the hills beyond.
Will definitely be returning to this site in the future.

We have just arrived home after a couple of nights at this campsite and can honestly say its one of the nicest campsites we`ve been on. The warden Aldo is a lovely guy who couldn`t be any more helpful. The site is well looked after, the toilet and showers are spotless. The grass is kept perfectly cut,all in all it`s a well tended site. Mind you Aldo always seems to be on hand to show people to their pitches. There`s a small playpark at the bottom of the site which is nice. A short walk down the hill takes you into town which has a fantastic fish and chip shop/restaurant just up from the waterfront and some good pubs.
Would definitely recommend this site and can`t wait to return.
