This is the second time we've been to this site, just staying overnight to visit a friend in Kirkcudbright. It is excellent - everything Donald says in the previous review is still the case. Every touring pitch is grassy, could cause problems in wet weather but none while we were there. The site falls away to the town on one side, our pitch had a wonderful view over the town to the hills and woodland beyond. Facilities on the site are very good, and to say that it is so close to the centre of the town it is spotless. The toilet block is perhaps a little old-fashioned now, but perfectly clean and warm and lots of hot water. The warden is very helpful, chatty and friendly and always seems to be there. The site was very quiet on both visits, everyone seemed to be in bed by 10.30. There is a children's playground. It's only a few minutes to the centre of one of the most perfect little towns I know - a couple of supermarkets (one very close indeed to the site), lots of designer and craft shops as well as more mundane individual shops, very good restaurants (try the Castle Restaurant), takeaways also close to the site, a National Trust house and a castle, and lots of other places to visit - even a harbour, still with fishing boats.

I have been using Silvercraigs site since I was 8 years old, I am now 45 years old. We first started visiting as kids when my parents had a tent and not a lot of money, we had many a great holiday in kirkcudbright as kids with my brother, parents and granny. I now visit at least twice a year with my own family staying about 3 weeks out of my 4 weeks annual holidays. The toilet/shower block has been updated to the best available, a laundry and chem disposal and pay-phone are located beside the block as well as the warden's office.
When you arrive at the site which is owned and run by D&G COUNCIL the warden is usually in his office or out working on the site, if by chance he is off duty all you have to do is pick a pitch and settle down and when he arrives back is to book in. Also note the local supermarket is only 5 mins on foot from the site, so you don't have to carry food etc. All the rest of the shops are within 10 mins walk from the site. If you need to use the loo's all you need to do is ask a fellow camper for the number for the press button lock on the doors, also available is the power hook-up points which are a high wattage so you can run heating and a telly and a hairdrier all at the same time without popping the trip switch!
This site will always be my family's choice for our holidays as we have never been let down in 35 years.
My ambition in life is to retire and work for d&g council as a site warden for free using my caravan on site for the season making the site a popular home for holiday makers young and old and to enjoy as I have enjoy'd the site most of my holidays.
