Stayed at the site in January 2011 and thought it a nice site and well run. The information room with walks etc was brilliant and the free use of the internet was excellent.

However, found it overpriced for the facilities it offers as compared to a caravan club site.

The reason cars are not allowed on site is because the pitches are too small to accommodate a caravan, awning and car. The pitches are tightly packed which if the site was full, would be a problem. If you had to reverse your own van in, it would be unavoidable to go onto the grass, which presumably is why they pitch your van for you with a small tractor.

The 'bathrooms' are limited in number, and at peak times,(even when site is half full) you have to pick your time to avoid queues! The showers run on a push button system which switch off after about 20 seconds. I was very glad I only had short hair!

Information on pubs is out of date, with 2 locals closed, and the food in the 2 we did visit, well below average (microwaved, cold in the middle meals and indifferent service).

The walk to the lake and a visit to the cafe there, is well worth the effort.

Oh No! Am I the only one to have anything negative to say about this site?

First I have to say that previous reviews are correct, this is an outstanding site in an outstanding area. The facilities are second to none, the bathrooms, the grounds and the staff are all first class.

However, our only problem was with the general level of noise on the site. This may sound at odds with others who found the site to be tranquil and peaceful but we found there to be a number of small annoyances that added up to one general gripe!

We decided that the main culprit was the fact that we were on pitch number 1, it is adjacent to the car park which, as pointed out by other reviews, is home to all cars on the site which means pitch number 1 is subject to the sound of all vehicle movements all day long (car doors banging, engines, excited visitors, gravel driveways etc.).

This on it's own is relatively minor, but add in the fact that pitch 1 is also adjacent to the main thoroughfare between the caravan pitches and the aforementioned car park / bathroom / bottle bank / reception / front gate and you now have almost all visitors on foot walking past your pitch, and all motorhomes driving past on their way out for the day!

Then there are the mini tractors, seemingly the main mode of transport for a number of site staff, which are a necessary but noisy evil.

Maybe we expected too much after reading reviews that described the site as tranquil and peaceful but we have definitely been on quieter sites. To give the staff their due, after explaining our concerns, we were offered a different pitch but felt moving for the last 2 days of our stay was pointless, we were even finding humour in the very things that annoyed us so much!

The big question is, would we return to Bath Chew Valley? Absolutely yes, without doubt one of the nicest sites we have ever stayed at in an area we both love.

Next time we will be more careful in our choice of pitch!

Stayed for a fortnight at this very peaceful site the attention to detail is noticeable as soon as you arrive. Your van is pitched and levelled by small tractor so much easier than doing it yourself.

The facilities are immaculate, and so is the site with planting and statues. The information room with library and internet would put some small villages to shame.

One of the previous reviewers mentioned strimming around caravans this is now done by hand so no damage. The lake is just down the road from the site with visitor centre and there are a dozen pubs within 10 mins drive and one within walking distance at the top of the road. Staff are pleasant and helpful.

We will definitely return it is so peaceful with no cars on site. Great site for visiting both Bath and Bristol. Can't really fault anything apart from push button showers.

P.S best pub meals at Hinton Blewett village pub 2 miles up the hill.

Beautiful site with excellent facilities which are hard to fault. The pitches are very well maintained, the individual shower / toilet / wash room facilities are very indulgent. Might possibly lead to a few early morning dances outside though for those wanting to use the toilet while people luxuriate in the showers!

A lot of time, money and effort has obviously been invested in this site with an area recently planted up with young trees to form what will be a short, very pleasant woodland walk in a couple of years time. Dogs are not allowed in this area but do have a dedicated Pups Parade for late night / early morning 'requirements'.

All this effort shows in this high quality site, although there is a danger of the hard work being overcome by over zealous officialdom. Our neighbour unhooked their very well behaved dog and stepped inside their 'van for the lead, only to be met by a warden telling them the dog must be on a lead.

Shop and pubs a short walk away up the lane, and the very large Chew Valley lake just a short walk away.

We noticed on our last day a small Ford Fiesta for hire which appealed to us and will definitely make it worth considering returning to this excellent site, maybe to explore Bath and Bristol.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this very peaceful site. Unusually, cars weren't allowed on the grass at any time. Upon arrival, a mini tractor would take your caravan to the allocated pitch. You can of course take your car near your caravan for loading and unloading but it must be kept in the car park at other times. This was not a problem for us, we thought that it added to the peace and quiet you get at this site by not having cars coming and going.

The toilets are worth a mention: each toilet unit was self contained: there was a shower, toilet, sink, hair dryer, hand dryer, and c/h radiator in a spotlessly cleaned unit. There were about eight of these units, more than enough for when we were there.

There was an information room with a computer connected to the net for the free use of guests. But even better, was the wireless broadband for just £1 per day. Bargain.

In the village, about five minutes walk away, there was a Spar store, two pubs and a petrol station.

The 'Newbridge' park & ride for Bath was about fifteen minutes away. Strongly recommended at £2 pp. I wouldn't even think about taking a car into Bath city.

Just had two nights at this sight for our shakedown (only had the caravan three weeks!) so we have nothing to compare with, that said we felt this was a lovely introduction to caravanning and couldn't find any fault at all. After reporting to reception our van was taken to our pitch by a friendly young man on a little tractor who made sure it was level, a great relief for husband who was a bit worried about his reversing into space skills as a newbie (considering purchase of a caravan mover!)

This is a very tranquil adults only sight with lovely countryside all around. The washroom facilities were spotless with individual washrooms containing shower(push button), toilet and handbasin and hairdryer. I think there were some older cubicle style showers as well though didn't use those. The only minor gripe about the washrooms being they didn't have engaged signs so the only way to know if it was engaged was to try the handle a bit disconcerting if you were inside. There seemed to be plenty of space between the pitches though it wasn't too busy at this time of year.

We took our two dogs and there is a nice little dog walk, though for exercise you would need to go outside the camp. The nearest pub is the Red Lion only about five minutes away in the village but you have to walk up a narrow road with no pavement to reach it not so good in the dark (on the second evening we remembered to take the torch) The landlord allowed the dogs in but we had to sit at a specific table. The camp is very quiet after about 10 at night which suited us,(worn out after all the excitement of new caravanning)

We had no problems with electricity or water, chemical waste etc all provided for, and on checking out the little tractor did its job again and the young man even hooked our caravan up to the car.You have to turn left on leaving the campsite so beware the giant pothole!

We wanted a peaceful night away and this is exactly what we got.

The site is beautiful and nicely landscaped. However, some of the pitches were very close together - not a problem for us in January but might be more of an issue in high season.

The best part were the toilets / showers! They were beautiful! It was really nice to have a 'bathroom' containing sink toilet and shower - and there were plenty of these. The rooms were spacious and warm with lots of hooks and shelves. The push button showers were a pain but the room made up for that.

The site was a little pricey but we would go back - just for the bathrooms!

We stayed here over Christmas and were pleased with the friendly and helpful Staff, the Christmas lights and the well maintained site. The Area around Chew Valley Lake is very attractive and we walked most days using the site information room walks. The showers were great but the press button operation (10 seconds) is a bit of a nuisance. If you are a Caravan Club member be aware that you have to pay a £50 deposit and the balance in October for Christmas (presumably the same the rest of the year, about 7 weeks). The Site has an admirable policy on Conservation and advice is posted all over the site. The Staff sited the caravan for us but I moved it off the site myself, I thought the levelling was a bit out but that was soon rectified. We got a free bottle of wine for decorating our van for Christmas. Great. I would definitely use this site again.

Strange place - really beautiful in terms of landscaping and immaculate grass - frightened to walk on it but the general feeling is that one shouldn't be there in case one makes a mess! Pages of do and don'ts on arrival and notices all over the site - such as how to save the planet? Does one want that on holiday?

Individual 'wet rooms' are all very posh and shiny new sanitary ware etc but we didn't like men and women using same ones and as there are no separate loos it isn't possible to get in the morning as people are showering. Have to try the handles as no 'engaged' indication - a bit embarrassing.

We guess that the reason they do a 'service wash' is in case someone messes up the machines. We would hate to have them do our 'smalls'!

As previous report said dog walk is very basic but at least it is there as there is no where in the close vicinity to walk the dog directly from the site without going down a quite busy road without any path. The local Spar is quite close and the local pub is good but the bus service is about every 2 hours if that, so for Motorhome people with dogs not wishing to use their vehicles during the day it is not an ideal situation. The lake is not very close without a vehicle

Just got back from this site and wished that we could have stayed longer,a nice site very well kept and the facilities were A1.The red lion pub is only a 5 minute walk as well as the local spar shop.
The lake itself is 5 to 10 minutes away but well worth a walk round, although you don't get to see a full view of it until you reach the cafe but well worth it.
Bath is well worth a visit also Wells and the Cheddar gorge even in the rain.If you fancy a bit of retail therapy try Clarks village at Street it's very different to your normal retail outlets.
I only have two faults with the site, you have to use your car to anywhere, the public transport not very good from the village, but my main fault was with the cutting of the grass.
Well that didn't really bother me it was the strimming of the grass I don't agree with them doing it whilst your van is still on,as one stone hit my van,no damage was done thankfully.
All in all I would return as the staff were very nice and helpful, and them putting your van on is a god send, after a six hour drive!
