This is a really well situated Site, very close to the town itself and just across the road from Melrose Rugby ground. Access is easy if you follow the Site Managers' suggested route of entering the town from the west side, avoiding the narrow streets.
Melrose is a very pretty town with real shops and little or no chain stores or big supermarkets. A Coop, 2 butchers, bakers, greengrocers, good hotels / pubs and lots of coffee shops.
We stayed 2 nights and found plenty to do - walking the hills and paths, visiting 2 very good NTS gardens in town + the abbey.
As for the Site itself, its small, only 60 pitches but very well laid out with plenty of space. Toilets, cleaning area are all good and clean. There's little noise from either the main road which passes just at the back or from the town itself. Might be more noise when there's a game on though but probably worth the entry fee for a local derby match.
Only one drawback, no waiting area outside so there can be a queue to get in.

Visited the Melrose site as the first weekend away of the year and the first point to note is how popular it is. Had to book the weekend in December of last year and the 'Site Full' sign was up the second day we were there.
Site is easy to find but it is well worth following the Caravan Club directions as these avoid the narrow streets of the town centre if you're coming from the A68.
The pitches are level and well sited. One interesting point is that the ground is as hard as iron, trying to get the awning pegs in was 'fun'.
Toilets, showers and dishwashing area were all clean and up to the usual Caravan Club standards. Also the showers were nicely heated, it was fairly cold outside for May.
Plenty to do in the local area. The Abbey is fantastic and a must visit if you're in the area. Large parts of it are still standing and there is plenty of information on it. It is a Historic Scotland property so there is an entrance fee. There is also a museum on the Roman connection in the area.
The Elidon hills are worth a climb. Really good views over the local area and the paths are well signposted.
All in all very much worth a visit.

Had a great 2 nights here. Weather was cold but bright, but facilities were very good and very clean. Wardens were helpful. Good washing up facilities if in a pretty draughty location! Site got busy on Friday night! Site is in an excellent position, very close to Town Centre and Abbey. Excellent choice of shops and eating places. I walked up the Eildons straight from the site. There was some old snow, therefore fantastic. Will aim to go back

Used this site as a stopover on way to Loch Long. Very nice site, with excellent wash block facilities (nicely heated), clean and tidy. Has booked a fully serviced pitch, and was given one that had been updated, with new (large) gravel pitch, grey waste drain, and electric hook-up with water tap. Didn't have a mains water adaptors as yet, so proved a bit awkward filling water hog as tap is situated only 3 inches from ground, but would be ideal for normal superpitch connection.
TV Freeview was not available with my Status Aerial, although the EHU had TV aerial connection point ( cable could be hired at £1/night). However, as I had sat-tv with me, set that up and got a good signal (even on my 39' maxview system).
As for Melrose, didn't get out this time, but have been up there to visit Father-in-Law many time, and it is a very nice place to visit, with the Abbey, riverside walks, a number of nice pubs, and plenty of shops to spend your money in. And for the rugby fan, there is the Rugby Site just opposite the Site.

Excellent site as one would expect from Caravan Club, all facilities immaculate. Previous reviews have mentioned the inconvenience of choosing a pitch that backs on to the rugby pitch or the tennis court, and I can imagine that could be a bit of a nuisance so we heeded the advice and found a pitch in the centre of the site. Some members have left comments in the site Visitor Book implying that it is the warden's fault that tennis balls come over the fence, but I don't really see how you can blame them for that.
Our only minor criticism is regarding the Caravan Club flyer that we were given on arrival, which tells you about the two big supermarkets in Gallashiels 5 miles away. What it doesn't tell you is that you can get everything you need by taking a 5 minute stroll into Melrose, and what you get is better than anything the supermarkets have to offer. There are two butchers ( we used the one nearest the site and the meat was fantastic, but the other one is probably as good), a greengrocer, a delicatessen, a baker, an off licence, a Cooperative store, a small Spar, even a Big Issue seller, what more could we need to make us feel at home.
All in all, an excellent site and a superb location, highly recommended.

This is a really nice site and Melrose is one of my favourite border towns. Toilets are spotless and shower facilities really good. Up to the usual Caravan Club site standard. It's quite a small site, which, for us, makes it all the more attractive. It sits at the foot of the Eildon hills and they offer brisk walks if not particularly challenging.
The only gripe we had with the site was the fairly miserable wardens - why can't these people smile a bit?
Melrose has plenty in the way of shops and pubs and better still, they are all just 'up the road'.

Joined the CC at this site about 8 years ago and had not re-visited until May last year - and have since returned twice this year. Site only has around 60 or so pitches and has a small separate field for tents. All pitches are hardstanding with several fully serviced pitches also available. Toilet block and pitches are very well maintained and I suspect are the main the reason you have to be quick to book this site as it is always busy. Several of the other campers we spoke to have visited the site on numerous occasions. Toilet block does not have an infants room if you have small kids and although no play area on site there is one at the entrance.
Melrose is only a few mins walk away and has several cafes, bars and restaurants to suite all tastes and a couple of small supermarkets. Also Galashields is only 4 miles away where there is a huge 24 hour Tesco and a large Asda almost side by side as well as several other high street stores such as M&S & Next.
Melrose is centrally placed for touring the borders with Peebles, Kelso, Jedburgh, Hawick and Selkirk with their many attractions all within 20 miles or so. A little further a field and you can be in Edinburgh or the East Lothian / Northumberland coast.
Quite a lot to do in the area so you could easily fill a week or repeat visits without getting bored. The drive to Kelso and Floors Castle are definitely worth a mention. As is the farm park near Jedburgh for the kids, think it was called Jedforrest.
Will definitely be back although will probably have to wait until next year now and book in advance.

I used to visit this site as a child and its changed a lot since the 80s! The main site is caravan hard-standings, very nice condition and well looked after. The tent field is past the caravan pitches, and is a cordoned-off segment of a larger field. I'll make it easy and go with pro's and con's:
Pro's:
- Ideal location, two minutes walk from the beautiful town of Melrose, excellent walks by the river, lovely pubs and dog friendly beer gardens - Well looked after campsite, friendly managers - Beautiful toilet blocks, includes hairdryers and basin cubicles for privacy when doing your hair and makeup! - Dogs allowed - Play areas and tennis courts on site - Tent area fairly quiet and a couple of picnic benches provided
Con's:
- Tent pitches can't be booked, the manager just advises you to ring before setting off - The tent field had a bit of a boggy ditch down one side - this didn't bother us except that we found little black beetles under everything when packing up - Dogs have to be tied up at all times - this may not seem like a con to non-dog lovers, but we found it a bit restrictive given that we were at the furthest side of the tent field and nowhere near anyone else - It was a little bit of a walk from the tent field to the toilet block - not miles, but farther than I'm used to!
Overall, a beautiful site, excellent location, and I'm now a little bit spoilt as its the nicest place we've stayed yet!

A lovely location ,although I missed the entrance due to Caravan sign being obscured by an overhanging tree. Entry to the site is via barrier card. All pitches are gravel hardstandings. The toilet block was clean and well maintained. The chemical disposal, dishwashing and dustbins were undercover. There is a laundry room. The information room had plenty of leaflets but Would have liked more local information. Walking into town is an easy 3 minute walk with some nice shops. The Roman heritage Centre in the main street does guided walks every Tues & Thursday 1.30pm to 5.30pm (inc cup of tea). Melrose Abbey is close by,I didn't visit (entry price put me off). Abbey Mill a few yards away has a tea room, gifts and clothing (part of Edinburgh Wool) got some bargains (50% off some).
But what I really like Melrose for is the great walking. Try crossing the 'Chain Bridge' across the River Tweed, this footbridge built in 1826 looks like a mini Brunel Bridge. I sat and watched the fly fishermen waist deep, the Salmon jumping and even saw a Heron having better look in the shallows (don't forget the Camera and binoculars for the lovely views). Can also walk to the old stone bridge and cottage (looked like a converted tollbooth). A site well worth visiting.

Lovely site in excellent location. 5 min walk into Melrose which is a lovely village with lovely shops. # Friendly Wardens and very clean facilities. Play ground just outside the gate was good for my 2 young children and there are some lovely walks in the area. All in all we had a great time and would recommend this site.
