Went away this weekend for a break from work. Had been here a few years ago and remembered that it was good value for money. Well, not anymore. £20.00 per night! Had a meal in the pub first night and found it was overpriced and felt as though we were really pushed to eat a dessert as well! Enquired about getting a key for the toilets and shower block as they were locked and the response was 'can you not use the toilet in your caravan'! After a bit of pushing, we finally got given a large bunch of keys but they didn't know which key was for the ladies or the gents! We were also asked to drop the keys off before 10am the following morning because the cleaner would need them! With not being very impressed, we decided we didn't want to have to get up that early and decided to give the keys back. On a positive note, there is a good children's playground, lovely walks and the view of the castle is wonderful. Not impressed with the cost considering we weren't able to use the toilets as they were continuously locked! Didn't find the staff very friendly at all.

Visited this site in September 2010 with a group of friends.
Positive. Large flat pitches
Negatives. Dirty spider ridden toilets, grumpy landlord as we had our own bbq on the friday night and hadn't bought the over priced alcohol from the bar. Worst thing was the local lads who thought that once the pub shut they could converge in the carpark drinking out of cans and throw stones over the hedge.
We didn't have the children with us for this weekend but I wouldn't have been too keen on them using the playground and the equipment didn't look in the best of condition.

Just been back to this site after previous poor experience. Went with 2 other families with kids under 10 and the only down side was that they still charge for two pitches if you have two two man tents on one pitch but you could put an eight man tent up and it would be one pitch.
Best description for this site is chaotic fun half hour out of Nottingham. Play area is good, disused railway line and canal towpath are great for walking or cycling. Other campers relaxed and friendly. Will be going back soon.

Very disappointed in site after previous visits although they were not without problems (noise late and ball games). This time I appreciate it was a bank holiday but on arrival was told that I would have to pay £15/night for a pup tent (single occupant) along side our 2 berth tourer, even though when booking by phone we were told they would 'do a deal' when we got there.
During they second day whilst out shopping a second tent had been pitched halfway across our second pitch leaving less than the required safety distance and when the staff member came round checking the number of vacant spaces I pointed this fact out expecting some redress only to be told 'we are fully booked you know'.
Then to top it off Sunday when my wife went to use the showers there was broken glass all over the place from the smashed windows in the ladies (which now matched the gents). It also stated on a copy of the receipt no ball games on camping field but we had two games going on with children and parents.
I certainly will not be returning

Bit disappointed with our recent visit to this site, though have enjoyed it previously. There was a good deal of litter left lying around the site, which had clearly been there for some time. The main reason for our disappointment was they justified charging £15 for a pup tent alongside out motorhome for two 10 year olds by saying 'we don't charge for dogs or awnings like other sites' (only ever paid a pound or 2 for these 'extras' at other sites). I agree with other reviews that the food in the pub is overpriced.
Play area is good, facilities are fine, canal towpath nearby is great for cycling.
The nearby Chequers pub in Woolsthorpe has great food, and a bargain offer 6-7pm every day.

Having just got back from a wonderful 3 days camping on this site, the owner was friendly and helpful on arrival, toilets and showers very good and clean although the rubbish does collect a bit next to the bins. The camp site is flat and had lots of room, the facility's were good. local shop although very small did have basics and was only 10 min walk from site, also village pub 10 min walk. Nice little village pub but food too expensive and its 6 miles to grantham that has a couple of major supermarkets.
The onsite pub gets lively at night, but had great nights in there, snooker for kids, juke box and t.v. but found meals a bit expensive. Lots of walks to do, all in all site very good and would recommend it to families or couples and is great for kids. Definitely going back soon.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at this site. The location is lovely, close to the canal and excellent play facilities for the kids. My little boy spent every waking hour there.
The pitches were really level, ground was quite hard and mallet was a must for putting in the pegs. The pitches were very close together which we didnt mind as a group of 5 caravans and one tent we were all close together. I can imagine if the site was full it could get very cramped.
The pub onsite had everything you would expect, games room with pool table and games machine, restaurant area. We did have some dinner here and although the plate was full it did seem quite expensive for the quality.
The toilet block was old and looked very grubby, the ladies toilets hardly ever had any toilet roll and the gents were also the same. The showers were great if you could get there before 9am as after that there was no hot water left.
The staff are very friendly and kept us up to date with the farmers progress. The field next to the campsite was getting harvested. This did not really bother us at all.
All in all a good site we will return.

Had a great weekend here. Friendly staff, cheap, and no hidden costs for day tents etc. Great setting next to the canal. Well recommended.
But. The only gripe is the toilets. The blokes was pretty dirty all the time. It never seemed to be cleaned. And the showers were near scalding with no way of turning them down.
From what my wife told me, the womens were worse! one of the toilets was covered in you-know-what for over a day or so, and there were certain womens 'applicators' strewn about also. But the thing that seemed to bother her most, for some reason there was a boiler suit hung up on the wall which seemed to be covered in blood! most strange :-/
Its a little gold mine of a site really, and you would think with all the money it takes, it would be relatively cheap to get the toilets cleaned regularly. Will still go there again tho without a doubt. Excellent playground for the kids, plenty of hookups, and an excellent location.

What a gem! Just got back from this site after a really lovely nights stay.... Toilet blocks adequate and spotless, likewise the washing up sinks. The staff are friendly and helpful and the pub is lovely with real ale pumps. Camping in a pub car park doesn't sound good but it is excellent. Superb kids play area with everything they could want but be warned....it is literally next to the camping area.

May 2005 This site is right next door to the Rutlamd Arms, serving real ale and excellent food at the time of our visit, though it is very popular and gets very busy inside and out due to it's location. There is a canal that runs along side of the pub, it is not a working one but there is a nice easy walk along the tow path, with footpaths and bridal ways leading off this, there is also a cycle path.
The site is all grass, level and has lovely views of Belvior Castle, it is about three quarters of a mile to the village which has a shop and another pub. When I phoned I was told there was no need to book which was o.k as we arrived on Friday, but by Saturday lunch time it was full and it felt overcrowded, especially as there were children playing football in an the middle of all the tents and caravans.
There is a play area by the pub car park, here there are some hard standing pitches. The toilets and showers were basic, but adequate, they were kept quite clean though there seemed trouble with drainage at the time of our visit. I am not sure if the site is a little too laid back for the ammount of people that were there but I would like to visit again as I liked the area but maybe not at such a busy time.
