Had a long weekend here with the kids (2 girls, aged 6 and 4). Ideally located for exploring St Andrews, the site is good, reasonably level with good drainage (required as it rained for 2 days!). Permanent windbreaks / pitch breaks were very useful bearing in mind the high winds we had.
The toilets were clean and tidy and had plenty of supplies (hot water, loo roll etc), but did get a bit mucky between cleans - no more than expected though, on account of the weather.
The play area was small but well maintained. Our girls loved it. The option to have an open fire was refreshing too (always a scout!).
The owners were friendly and helpful. The shop small but well stocked - were even borrowed giant Jenga which was fun! Charging points were also very useful (although I was too late to get my key deposit back, having to pop the key itself through the owners' door as the office was closed).
On the downside; I would say I'm not impressed with the fact that it's simply one big field - I like a bit of variety. More of a personal bug bear. 'Location-wise' too, the views are fantastic, but the fact that it's almost on top of the hill means that we really did struggle with being so exposed to the elements.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay and would definitely go again, in the hope that the weather is better next time.

Just back from our third trip to this site in two years, and like the previous one's enjoyed every minute.
It's a good spot about 4. 5 miles from St Andrews, but the local village have a shop and a pub (both of which I've never had the time to visit :( ) There is a Morrisons in St Andrews and a Tesco Express, and a Larger Tesco in Cupar.
Pitches are on a slight slope, but not so much that you can't cook/eat/sleep etc, if anything it kept the boys football away from the tent :)
The toilets and showers in the gents were up to their usual excellent standard. My wife did mention that the ladies showers were not as hot as she'd remembered them, but she never mentioned it again so they must have adjusted them (or she adjusted to them).
There is a Family/Disabled facility with a folding down baby change (deposit required for the key) which we forgot about till the night before we were leaving, which made washing our girls and our youngest a bit easier although the floor did become very slippy, and there's not a lot of room for 2 adults who need a rest and 3 kids who don't wanted washed, but we managed.
We've only visited the site during the week and found it very quiet which suits us fine. We stayed one Friday night last year as it seemed to be busier with groups arriving on the Friday for the weekend, but we left on the Saturday morning so can't speak for that.
There is a cracking view down to the excellent West Sands area and the River Eden and over St Andrews into the North Sea. The beaches are well worth a visit and the kids can amuse themselves for hours when it's dry, even on a cloudy day it's a fantastic beach, just make sure you take a wind shelter if it's windy and plan on staying a while.
The play area is a slide, two seated swings and a rope swing. However they kids have got a HUGE field to run about in and play football and more or less do what they like. It's a massive area when it's not busy so essentially you open the door and off they go. The road at the bottom is fenced off but parents might want to keep a weather eye on budding Bear Grylls
There were a number of families staying at the same time as us which was great as all the kids were grouped in about the same ages 8s, 6s, 4s and a couple of 2s which helped them get on really well with each other and played away quite well.
The shop run by the owners is well stocked, and they are both very helpful.
We'll definitely be back I might even try and get back with my boys for couple of days for a break.

We are just back from 7 nights at Nydie, and had a fantastic time there. The site is a huge field on a hillside, with a small separate area at the top for EHU for caravans and campervans, and some woodwams. Yes, our pitch was slightly sloping but it didn't bother us. There was plenty of room for our Vango Diablo XP 600, and there were plenty tents larger than ours on-site. We were in the reserved area at the top of the site, which has fenced off sections which also serve as a bit of a windbreak. Some of these also have EHU. But you can pitch anywhere really, and some were in the farthest corner of the site, well away from any noise. The site itself is on a quiet country road, and has lovely views over to Tentsmuir Forest.
The toilet and shower facilities were excellent, with 6 showers and 4 toilets in the female section, although some where closed off and opened up, depending on how busy the site is. When we first arrived, 3 were open. Hubby says the gents had 4 showers, but had no problems getting a shower. As normal for any site, the showers did get busy from around 9am, but there was always hot, or at least warm water. There are hairdryers too, and three sinks for washing dishes.
We picked the site as it appeared to be one of the few sites for tents in the area and was getting good reviews, and also because some of the other reviewers said you could see the kids play area from the tent. We could, but you wouldn't if you were in the separate EHU area. The play area was swings and a slide and football goals, but it's a massive area to play in and safe from cars, our boys were there constantly, made friends and didn't want to come in. The tents are far enough away from the play area to not be disturbed by stray footballs.
The site owner was very helpful, unobtrusive around the site, and was usually in the reception area or around the site. In the main, campers kept to the 11pm curfew, and there wasn't much noise before 8am.
The campsite is a good base for exploring the wider Fife and Tayside area. Tentsmuir Forest has a lovely beach and toilets, but remember to take 2 x £1 coins to get through the gate, there is no one around to give change. We also have lovely days out at St Andrews and the East Neuk fishing villages. Crail is especially nice and you should visit the Crail Harbour Gallery for coffee and cake. For the kids on a wet day is the Olympia Leisure Centre in Dundee, which as flumes and rapids. And yes, the fish and chips in Anstruther are good, there will be a queue out the door, but it's worth the wait.
Of note, there are no washing machines on-site. Due to recent rain, the boys got muddy playing football. St Andrews doesn't have anywhere you can just do a wash and dry it yourself, Johnsons on North St quoted us £15 for wash and dry, and another laundry quoted £7 but only offered a next day service which wasn't convenient. Luckily we brought clothes enough to get by, but a couple of coin-operated washing machines on-site would be great for those staying for longer periods.
The boys say it's been their favourite camping holiday yet, and I have to agree with them. We would love to visit again!

We visited this site on the strength of the recommendations from this site and were not disappointed.
The site is a little windy due to it's open position on the hill but the owners have installed windbreaking fences which offer a large amount of protection. The pitches slope a little but were well drained and there were no puddles to be seen after a considerable amount of rain in the days prior to our arrival.
The toilet block was clean but several times over our stay the paper hand towels had run out or the toilet paper had stopped 'feeding' from it's dispenser but this is likely due to the amount of people/the people using that facilities rather than a fault of the owners!
There is a small play area as other reviewers have posted and a football area plus a huge amount of open space for kids to just run around. Our group had 6 children who all had a fantastic time and were disappointed to leave all their new friends behind.
Generally the site was quite before midnight and there was very little noise before 7am so a good nights' sleep was had by all. Be prepared to hear the jets taking off at nearby RAF Leuchers, they are amazing to watch and the view is fantastic.
We spent a pleasant afternoon in St Andrews eating ice-cream from the Janneta's ice-cream shop (scottish tablet flavour is divine!) and then most of the following day at Tentsmuir beach/forest - highly recommended for only £2 parking fee.
We stayed for 3 nights and would've stayed longer if we'd had the extra cash available to us, we'd highly recommend this site to other families.

Had a very enjoyable week on this site. The owners are friendly and helpful and the site is well kept. Its in a great location - very close to st andrews and the other great locations in that part of fife. There is lots of room for children to run about and great for playing games of rounders etc.
My only criticisms are that on a really busy weekend the ladies toilets got very grubby and were very unpleasant to use - I think this was down to sheer numbers. Also we had problems with two large groups who were very loud well after midnight. It would be good if larger groups could be accommodated in another area as lack of sleep did detract from what was otherwise an enjoyable weekend.
Would definitely return here but would try to avoid peak weekends.

Just returned from a weekend at this site with husband, 13 year old son and 11 year old nephew, we stayed in a woodwam and really enjoyed it.
It has a double bed, 2 single beds, a small fridge and kettle, 2 storage boxes ( although plenty storage under the beds) and a flat screen tv above the door with integrated dvd player ( we took an ariel in case we got rained in, which we did).
The site is sectioned so you have an area with 3 woodwams, 3 ecowams and maybe 5 or 6 tent pitches with electricity, then you have an area for tourers and motorhomes and a huge big field for tents with goal posts in the middle and a small play area for the kids,
There is a small shop (which sells delicious ice-cream) and the toilet blocks are really clean with free showers and free hairdryers.
The owner Sam is really nice and gave us a tray with mugs, tea, coffee, sugar and milk when we arrived and called in later on to see how we were doing and if we needed anything.
Would definitely recommend the woodwam and will be returning to this site.

Very good site all round.
Caters for all sorts of tourers & has some wigwam/chalet things as well.
Short drive from St. Andrews with panoramic views to the north east. It is a bit open & you notice it when it's windy.
Seems to be a fairly newish site with a large open field, plenty of room, when we arrived on the Friday. It got busier throughout the weekend, probably since the weather was so good. But wasn't anywhere near capacity.
Was impressed by the fact that all pitches were marked out even for tents & loads of space was allocated which meant you weren't on top of neighbours!
Very tidy clean site. Well drained (but it was a dry weekend!)It does have a bit of a slope but we were lucky to be pitched on the flat at the bottom.
Play area for kids.
Facilities block well kept & regularly cleaned albeit a bit busy in the mornings & late evening.
This could be a problem if the site really filled up, they could do with including an additional block at the far end of the site if this were possible.
Pleasant folks own the site & live right next to it so they are able to keep an eye on things.
I did overhear the chap speaking to a camper about being disturbed up at the top of the site on the second night & he promised to 'have a word', so they do take things on board by the sounds of it.
Would definitely go there again.
Maybe they might consider some planting of shrubs/trees to break the site up a bit & to provide a little shelter here & there along with the aforementioned extra shower/toilet blocks. But as I've said seemed to be quite new so it's probably early days!

Just spent 2 nights at the nydie campsite and enjoyed it. £36 with hook up. Arrived and was shown to our pitch which was flat an loads of space between tents.
The washing room wash simple but did the job, toilets were clean an showers were ok ( although mines was luke warm, but Scott told me gents were hot.
Small shop just down the road which sold rolls bread etc. Plenty space for kids an dogs to play. Sam the owner was always on hand an took time to ask if all was ok.
Took a drive into St Andrews, visited the shops and a walk along the beach, we also visited the sea life centre £8 per adult £6 for kids but you could also buy a family ticket, there was set times when some of the animals where to be fed an the ticket allowed you to come back at that time an watch, which we thought was good value.
All in all a good wee site an would recommend.

Stopped here for three nights in a tent with electric hookup.
We arrived and a notice on the door said ring for attention, half hour later someone turned up took our money and pointed to a wipe board 'that's your plot' we had to ask where it was as it wasn't clear.
We were told to drive round to back corner and pitch there and the hookup was opposite side. While we were putting tent up in rain a dog came bounding over making a nuisance of itself (this happened a lot)
We were not happy that we had to have our electric cable across field were other cars were driving to their plots.
The showers were a set temp which I found to hot and there was no where to put dry clothes etc.
The toilet block looked big but only three toilets at a time open, hand towels ran out.

Just back from a fantastic weekend at Nydie Caravan & Camping Site! What a great find. The people who own this site are incredibly friendly and cannot do enough to help you. We hired a BBQ last minute which was power washed and cleaned up for us.
There is a small camp shop on site which is good and sells fabulous ice cream. The shower and toilet facilities are spotless and cleaned regularly with lots of hot water and soap etc.
The showers are hot and powerful and again spotlessly clean. (We've been to commercial sites that were nowhere near as clean as this one.) We had an electrical pitch which was a really good size and not to close to the other tents which the owner showed us to. It was also nice and close to the toilets, showers, water and washing up facilities.
Just 4 miles from beautiful Tentsmuir where we spent a wonderful day at the beach, having a picnic and walking in the woods. We will certainly be coming back to Nydie
