We stayed here having spent five nights at a good site in South Wales and I have to say, we were very disappointed. The facilities were limited and showers and toilets were dirty and smelly. Its proximity to a river meant that there were bugs EVERYWHERE! The showers were very small and it was impossible to keep your clothes dry in them. The wash up and laundry room were very good (if not a little expensive for the latter), but that really didn't make up for the rest of it. All of this was a real shame as it had the potential to be a really lovely site. Beautiful surroundings, a river clean enough to swim in and a small station for a steam train passing right through the site. Its also very accessible to places to visit.

Having read the other reviews I don't think I have anything new to say. When we arrived we had been travelling 4 hours on a really hot day so we were keen to get pitched and crack open a beer. When you arrive you have to check in at the bar. There was only 1 person serving so we had to wait to be served along with people wanting drinks and food. When we got to our pitch we were situated right next to the farm. Believe me the cockerels do not stop once they start so if you don't like waking at 4 am this is not the place for you. I wrote to complain to the camp site as it was not busy so we didn't really know why they had put us by the farm when there were other quieter pitches. They said they would have moved us if we had raised it at the time but we only stayed 2 nights and it was just not worth the hassle of putting the tent up AGAIN. Someone had put their tent peg through a water pipe and we also had a trickle of water. Luckily this didn't really effect us. We didn't mind walking to the showers over the railway line but we found on both days the water was scolding hot. I was barely able to stand under it. On the positive side we really liked the site. It was a beautiful area and a fantastic base for Mount Snowdon. The ONLY thing that will stop us coming back was the farm noise. We had a bar b q the first night and ate in the pub the second night which we ate outside on the benches. Carnarfan was lovely and we wished we had visited earlier as there looks to be some nice places to eat and a nice strole on the promanade. I would recommend this site but ask for a pitch as far from the farm as possible. Also take some citronella candles as the midges bite. Enjoy

The site is an open field with a track up the middle. You are stacked two deep on both sides of the track. There was no landscape to the field nor any shade. The free showers, as a previous reviewer said, were little more than a dribble with such little pressure that you couldn't put your head under the flow, instead you had to cup your hands and attempt to wash your hair and body that way. The toilet block and dish washing facilities were also infested with biting nasties so densely that by simply waving your hands you could hit several in one swipe. I also (unsuspectingly) walked through a huge cobweb in the door frame of the shower after taking my glasses off.
This site also allocates pitches which I had failed to enquire about and as luck would have it, we ended up in the middle of the field next to the track/road. It felt quite claustrophobic after being in a beautifully spacious site the night before. I also had to hang around inside the pub waiting for a member of staff the next morning to hand back the laminated card I was issued. That took around 15 mins! We had to ask fellow campers where the facilities were and we were shocked to say the least regarding the fact we had to leave the site and cross a railway bridge to get the purpose built block. This was a faff for us as we had to take our dishes across to wash them.

August 2005 We have just returned from the site. Arrived after a long journey to find that our pitch which we had booked sometime in advance was occupied by other people so were told we could go in the 'overflow' field but we dug our heels in and they moved people around (so they said as the campsite did not seem to fill up whilst we were there) and found us a nice looking spot - we pitched our tent and all was well until 5 o'clock the next morning when the cockerels started followed by the geese and the ducks and finished off by the donkey, this happened every morning but at least we were up and out early.
Showers were small and you had to lean on the button to keep the water coming out which is not ideal when trying to wash your hair etc. But they were welcome and better than nothing. There were Green Loos dotted about which were emptied regularly and were a godsend at night rather than having to walk across the railway line.
The site was kept clean and tidy and the bins emptied daily. There were a good number of water taps scattered about so did not have to walk far for water although there were no signs saying whether or not it was drinkable.
The campsite is ideally situated for exploring the area, we found some lovely beaches and had a really good run of weather. We did enjoy our stay apart from the notorious cockerels and friends.

June 2005 This site was a big no no for our family. Upon arrival there is no reception so you have to go to the bar area to book in, which means that if it's busy you have to wait to be served along with all the pub customers.
The toilets/shower and utility block are across a field through a car park and over a railway bridge. With two young children it was just too much. An personally I didn't feel safe being so cut off from the site. To use the washing machine you have to obtain tokens from the pub (queing again) I didn't know this as no one to ask so after lugging my washing over had to walk back over the bridge and through the car park. The lady in the pub gave me a token (costing £1.00), I returned to my washing. It started fine but then stopped mid cycle, so went back over the bridge and through the car park. Upon asking for another token I was informed I should have taken two in the first place, helpful! The showers are the same as you get in leisure centres and you have to constantly keep pushing them to keep up the flow of water. Be warned my little girl got burnt after the water turned very hot and there's no means of turning it down! We were also given a site next to a water pipe that leaked so all the ground was very boggy, and as it was hot, full of mosquitoes. Also none of the water pipes are labelled waste or dinking so I guess they were both but there's no one to ask. In fact after the pub closed if anything was to happen we didn't know who to contact.
The pub itself was nice and got quite busy on the warm evenings. There's a bouncy castle and a great play park with slide swings and a roundabout, it's situated right next to the railway line so the kids were in their element watching the steam train go by.

18-20 July 2003 Well drained site, lovely hot and clean showers.
The cockerels are still there but didn't bother us, the kids slept until 9 anyway.
Will definitely go again next year sometime.

It was freezing when we stayed here it snowed alot! Great way to try out new Camper. Anyway the site was lovely the staff very helpful even got a tow off the grass when I got stuck trying to leave. The field is a nice size and has plenty of electric hook ups. There was a chemical disposal point but no where to empty the waste water on the motor home. The toilet block was so cold we tried not to use it and the doors on the cubicles were broken, being as you had to cross a bridge to get to the toilets we didn't like going in the dark. There is a steam train that runs through the middle of the camp site. There are no hard standing pitches and the grass becomes very wet very fast even the 4x4 had a problem getting off their pitches, but it was winter. The pub is literally outside the site entrance and although it seemed quite busy at times we were not disturbed by noise. The roads surrounding this area are very narrow and although there are walks nearby you have to go along the roadside for most of them. There is a lovely village nearby and of course you can get the train to places further afield.

September 2005 Just got back from our first ever camping trip(!) So we were a bit wary as to what to expect. Stayed just the one night.
Booked in at the pub, very friendly staff. Told us where our allocated pitch was. Not many in our field so plenty of room. fairly flat pitch which was well sheltered.
Toilets and showers were over a little railway bridge less than a minutes walk away. Toilets and shower cubicles very clean. Lovely hot water but shower didn't stay on long, had to keep pressing button. Only two showers - might have to queue in high season? Went to the pub for a meal in the evening - friendly staff, plenty of choice and huge portions! Bar wasn't too small.
Would come here again if in the area.

July 2005 We didn't book just turned up one Saturday afternoon and they had space in the bottom field which wasn't as well kept as the main, in fact it was freshly mown and uncollected overgrown grass (so loads of the stuff) and very lumpy ground. However it was our first camping trip and the only site with vacancies we were fed up and knew no better. Having said that we had a great time, only there for one night and it was lovely and quiet - only 3 tents in our field. The site is so peaceful and picturesque with a stream at the bottom of our field which my duaghter had great fun paddling in. The steam railway and view of the snowdonia mountains added to the romance, it was idyllic. Toilets and showers were adequete and clean, we didn't go to the pub (we brought our own in our coolbox!)although it looked nice and there is a kids play area in the beer garden. A nice place if you want to keep it relaxing and simple. Oh and you get used to the cockrel!!!!

July 2005 My boyfriend and I stayed at this campsite for 2 nights on the 11th and 12th July. We were really lucky to have nice weather so certainly didn't experience any flooding problems.
The campsite was really pretty and although I was a bit wary that you had to book a place over the phone (and therefore not choose your plot when you go there), all the spaces had plenty of room and were scattered around the edge of the campsite. The campsite itself is not huge and there are lots of trees and shrubs for shelter (its not just an open field).
The showers/toilets were a bit far away I suppose. You have to walk over the railway to get to them in the next field. I think they may be planning to use this next field for more camping as although overgrown, there seemed to be water taps scattered around. The shower / toilet block was very clean but the 2 showers were quite small and apart from a peg on the back of the door there was no-where else to put soap etc apart from on the floor. I find this very annoying! The showers are free but I think I would prefer to pay 20p and have a bit more water flow. They were hot but you had to virtually lay aginst the wall to get wet. It was quite difficult to wash hair! One evening the water was also boiling hot!
As most people have mentioned in their reviews, there is a farm next door with lots of free range animals roaming around. We were right next to this field and yes the cockerels were noisy but after waking up at 4.30am i was able to get straight back to sleep. Its all part of the experience, camping and listening to chickens, hens, ducks, cockerels and even horses foraging around in the field next door. I dont think its anything to do with the campsite anyway so its not as if they can do anything about it.
We ate at the pub at the campsite on both nights. The food was good value and although nothing fancy was nice when you were starving hungry and with generous portions.
If you are stuck for things to do in the day, give Caernarfon castle a visit as this was quite nice. Also you obviously have to go up Snowdon whether you walk or catch the train. We caught the train up which was extremely cramped on such a hot day and also quite expensive at £14 each for a single!!. The views are fantastic though and its certainly worth the walk down!! MAke sure you get there early on nice days though. We got there at 10 and the train up was already fully booked untill 11.30. It was soon full for the whole afternoon.
If staying in the area, would use campsite agin
