This was our second visit, the first being at New Year when it was -9 degC when we arrived and frozen water and folk having problems with their gas but we enjoyed it, hence the return visit. This time the weather was hot and sunny.
The site is well laid out, with fair sized mainly hard-standing pitches, though in summer there are some level grass area pitches for vans and another area for small tents. Facilities are spotless (as you would expect from a caravan club site). There are a fair amount of ducks that roam around the site, which don't bother you too much although they do leave their little messages around on the ground.
As previously stated, the village is just a short distance walk away, with a supermarket, couple of outdoor clothes shops, butcher, bakers, chemist/paper shop. Didn't try the pubs though did have a coffee and piece of carrot cake at 'The Hungry Highlander' (cafe at start of shops).
Lots of walks in the area. We did a couple of cycle rides (including a circular one from Linn of Dee, past Mar Lodge across the River Dee and back to the car park). There is also a nice golf course (Scotland's highest) on the outskirts of the village.
This is a popular site and we'll be back soon.

Lovely clean site. Warden very helpful to get us into the end pitch on the site which is hard to get into with a big van and had to move the barrier. Downside on that pitch is being in front of the swipe barrier machine which we didn't think about and cars stopping outside our van front window all day.
There are lots of other lovely areas to park there though, so it's not a problem. We parked there for the play park area so we could see the kids from the van. Large outdoor play area with a climbing frame and sliding swing for the kids which would have been fantastic if there had been any other children to play with. Ours were what seemed to be the only children in Braemar over that weekend, and that includes the town. Didn't see one under 16 so our three were disappointed.
The sliding swing for the kids was a massive hit and with no other kids, they did get to swing for hours on end when the rain stopped, but the stream on the other side of the play park side wasn't a hit with the grown ups. You can't see the stream from the vans so be careful with little ones out of sight even for a few seconds. It is a lovely large space to run around in though.
The kids loved the dog walk more than the dog as the rabbits and bunnies were loping around in their dozens and not afraid to come near to humans.
Lots of no cycling signs up but not sure if that meant no cycling in the park or just certain areas, but our boys cycled around and no-one seemed to be upset about it.
Beautiful scenery, quiet, friendly and ideal for I would say older couples or activity families who are not at the caravan much. Not much for children to do at all.
Didn't manage evening in the town as pubs and clubs are not child friendly in the early evening onwards so stayed on site. Maybe we missed one that will let you take them, but we gave up after asking three places.
Might go back for planned events, ie games etc, but otherwise, not with the kids.

The positives - its a big site, well laid out, toilets clean etc., all to the usual Caravan Club's high standards. Beautiful views all around and well located for walking into Braemar. The town has a good selection of shops, pubs, hotels etc.
The negatives - the two wardens (male & female) on duty when we arrived were not friendly at all. It's a shame as it actually took the shine off the place for us.

Excellent site close to the village up to the usual high caravan club standards. Two toilet blocks both spotless. Drying room and boot store in one ideal for both walkers and skiers in winter. Play area ample to keep older kids amused. Only tried The Fife Arms for eating out but definitely one to be missed! Food crap but pub ok for drinks. Gordons Pantry gets good reports but was closed by 4pm when we stayed. Will be back for future weekend breaks hoping for better weather as this place would be a sun trap when it shines!

This is a superb site and I could not posssibly think of anything bad to say about the site. We went there for the snowboarding/ski which was fantastic. The site was stunning the wardens could not do more for you they were total stars. My discovery 3 broke down (as usaul) there the wardens even lent me tools to fix it.
At the time we were there, there was about four foot of snow across the site, they had to clear the pitches with a snow plough. In short this is everything you want from a site and more and fully booked even in Feb. With the most snow they have had four years and the staff made the week, they have been wardens for 17 years and knew how to keep their site and look after their guests.

Superb clean site located on the edge of Braemar village.
This was my base for a week whilst I backpacked around the southern Cairngorm mountain range. Without doubt this site has a captive audience being the only one for quite some miles not to mention in Braemar itself; I think the price does reflect that issue and did find it quite steep for just a small 2 berth tent.
However the site was kept in superb condition, toilet/shower blocks were up to CC standard and staff fairly useful and friendly. Very quiet as well.
The large family of ducks were a pleasure which have taken to human life in everyway. The main issue was wind, quite typical for anywhere in the Cairngorms but I do think the CC have sufficent funds do address this problem with better tree planting etc.
As I have mentioned before the CC have a strange outlook on tents which I find both confusing & off-putting, but like a few others I've used around the uk this one seems to get away with it.
My conclusion is I would return, even if there was others in the area as long as the price doesn't become too silly.

This was our first visit to a Caravan Club site and generally we were happy with our stay.
Not normally a fan of heavily designated tent pitches but in this case they work quite well as there is a good amount of space between them. That said, if the site were at full capacity, I suspect it would feel a bit cramped. Nice flat ground, bit stony so take your rock pegs, but overall ok.
Facilities were excellent; loads of showers, basins and toilets, all spotlessly clean and maintained every day between 11am and 12. Great power-showers, really hot water and loads of washing up sinks, bins etc. Also an adequate covered BBQ/food prep area for campers which was useful when it rained (which was often!).
Small, but well equipped children’s play area, sensitively situated at the far end of the site, away from most pitches and therefore created little disturbance. Wardens were quite strict with regard to children playing around pitches and vans, telling them to go to the play area, which, in our opinion, was a good thing (we don’t have any children). No shop on site, but Braemar a ten minute walk so no need really.
Braemar is a lovely little town with most things you could need. Nice little co-op supermarket, open until 8.30pm, tourist information, pharmacy, newsagents, gift shops and handful of basic but hearty eateries, including the aforementioned Hungry Highlander chip shop and the Gathering Bistro. There are two pubs, the Fife Hotel which has a large but basic public bar, reasonably priced, with a very wide choice of malt whiskies and the Invercauld Arms, which has a small but luxurious bar with a small selection of drinks, bit pricey but nice ambience.
The site is well positioned for visiting the Balmoral estate (if that’s your thing) as it is about a 10 minute drive. Ballater is the next largest town, about 20 minutes away, and although a bit more ‘towny’ than Braemar it is still nice and has a great chip shop etc.
A couple of negatives,
As others have mentioned, the staff were very fastidious and a little bit gruff about arrival times and tent sizes. We had a similar problem to another reviewer as our tent was classified as being a ‘large’ tent even though there were only the two of us in it and its footprint is not that large although it is full height model. The site is expensive, £18.50per night for a two-man non-ehu pitch which is the most we have ever paid and although the facilities are free and excellent it is still a lot of money.
The other small but persistent problem, oddly enough, is the presence of large numbers of ducks on the site. When we arrived we thought how nice it was to have them wandering around but within a few hours there were literally dozens and dozens of them, in and around the tent, and they made a real nuisance of themselves especially when you were trying to cook or prep food. They leave a considerable amount of unhygienic duck mess everywhere, and make a great deal of noise from around 4am onwards. We love, ‘getting back to nature’ and were just about able to tolerate them, but I suspect it would really annoy a lot of people and spoil their stay. Everyone comments on the midges in Scotland but at this site you need duck repellent more than midge spray!
Overall, a good solid and well maintained site, with excellent and spotless facilities, only let down by its high cost, its stern staff and the noisy ducks!

Great Site, usual high CC standards in the toilet blocks. Large pitches with plenty of choice between grass and hardstanding. Braemar nice wee tourist trap(covered by previous reviews). Area brilliant for walking and wildlife. Wardens and assistant wardens friendly, helpful and extremely efficient. Definitely a site to revisit.

Lovely campsite 9 miles from Balmoral Castle. Clean showers, adjustable type. £20.10 per night with EHU on hardstanding pitch, there are grass pitches also. Tents separate from caravans. No shop on site. Loads of ducks and rabbits roam the site, dog walk at edge of site. Less than 10 minutes walk to shops in Braemar. Can recommend the chippy, the Happy Highlander, great chips, burgers etc.Old castle at edge of the village open at weekends. The wardens are sticklers for the rules. Would visit again.

Negatives first!
This site must have been awarded its stars for location because its certainly not for the warden's good customer service!
We arrived at this site around 7pm on a Friday night sun still shining only to find the reception area closed. Thats ok we thought there's a bell. We rang the bell and a couple come out of the door, grumbling about having to unlock doors, put lights on and basically gave us the impression we were a nuisance.
So, we put our tent up and relaxed for the night. The next day I went to the office and the lady began to moan about the size of our tent! She said they had been up and had a look at it and decided it was a large tent and we had only been charged for a medium tent. (it has a 3 man sleeping area with separate living space) We could not believe how unfriendly and unwelcoming these wardens were.
And now for the positives!
The site is beautifully located at the bottom of various mountains within the National Cairngorm Park and the pitches look onto this gorgeous landscape. There are about 100 ducks with baby ducklings on site so they swarm around at the slightest sight of food. The toilets are impeccably clean and the showers have an endless supply of hot water.
Braemar itself is a charming wee village with a few lovely tea rooms and cafes. One place to visit is the Hungry Highlander for a haddock supper. Its a wee chip shop with tables outside, great when the weather is nice. Honestly, the fish is a whole fillet the length of my arm and was perfectly cooked.
Braemar has a few little souvenir shops, a butcher, grocery shop, chemist and pubs.
Also, a trip to Braemar castle is a must in support of the local community as they own the castle and are trying to restore it to its former glory.
The Fife Arms Hotel is a great place for a pint and they have tables outside for when the weather is good.
There are beautiful walks in and around Braemar too and variuos other attractions close by like Balmoral castle and Linn of Dee
