We are really impressed with Higher Chellew. On this quiet camp-site the pitches are generous and the site well maintained.
The toilets and showers are kept clean with both showers and sinks well supplied with free and copious hot water.
The owners are very welcoming and helpful when you want it, but otherwise leave you in peace - just the right combination.
The location is well situated for Penzance, St Ives and everywhere else on the Lands End Peninsular. Easy access to some local walks mean that the car is not always required for a day out.
We will certainly use this site again and have no reservations in recommending it to others.

Our first visit to this site. We were made to feel very welcome through our stay by owners Glynis and Ken. On our arrival we were wowed by the beautifully kept grounds and marvellous views.
Lovely to only hear the sound of nature and children playing. Games could be borrowed free of charge to help entertain the children and adults alike. Toilet/shower block very clean and well maintained. Cleaned and checked regularly.
Local farm shop just up the road. We did not use it but were told it is well stocked with good local produce. We made use of one of the six elctric hock-ups with no problems.
Several pubs a short drive away, we ate at the Watermill, very nice food and good service but advise you to book!Good position to tour various beaches and the coastlines of Cornwall as only a 10 minute drive to St Ives.
We as a family look forward to returning soon.

This is a wonderful campsite which is value for money & very well kept by the owners & no slug problems here.
There is a local farm shop not far away from the campsite which was very useful at times. There is electric hook up for caravans & tents if needed but I & my son prefer to be closer to nature & leave all modern day comforts at home.
The showers were o.k but every time you had one the whole floor got wet so best to wear flip flops. The views from the site are outstanding & the walks very enjoyable also.
Would recommend this campsite & look forward to staying again. The site is in a great location with loads of walks but on some of these walks using parts of the main road is necessary which can be dangerous at times.

What a beautiful site. Quiet spacious and well kept. Really great amenities large showers with loo and sink all in one room, laundry and washing up with bowls and liquid supplied. Nothing was to much trouble for the owners-even scanned a page of yellow pages for us to locate a certain shop we were hunting down!
St.Ives and penzance are the closest towns and were lovely. Went to st ives beach which was stunning but you have to be an early bird to get parking or like us you have to have a hike down steep hills to get there(then back up!)f ound a great beach called carbis bay which was just next to st ives and it was lovely and clean and large!
Friendly and relaxed site-shame about the weather! would return in a flash

We've been here several times in previous years as well as this visit and it is our all time favourite camp site. Lovely people running it, taking their customers comfort seriously. Electric hook up, great for chilly evenings and cool box for hot days. Virtually level field, view of Penzance and the sea, well kept. Shower/toilet/laundry room block is brilliant with washing machine, iron and board, microwave, freezer for ice packs, hair dryer available. Showers/toilets always clean and well stocked. It was very quiet when we visited, out in the countryside. Lovely. Plenty of room for children to play. All this and still no dearer than a previous visit to Ibstock where the site was dire.
There are also a few chalets here, which we hope to try later in the year when the weather cools.

I have been to this site a couple of times over the years, and enjoyed the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the quiet, small site. The location is a little far away from St Ives, but this usually means that there are pitches available. It is not possible to walk into town, and every trip required a car and car parking charges.
I was pleased to see that upgrades to the toilet block and facilities have been carried out, but this seems to have destroyed all of the relaxed atmosphere. There were too many rules on my last visit. On a small, isolated site like this there needs to be some provision for younger children to enjoy themselves - this usually means ball games and freedom to roam.

This is a pleasant, small site with only 30 pitches.
It is equi-distant between Penzance and St Ives. Each are about a ten-fifteen minute drive away.
It is a pretty site but I could not see St Michael's Mount - even in the distance!
There is no pub or shop within walking distance. There is a farm shop which is probably a fifteen minute walk but the main road is very dangerous for walkers. The nearest pub is the Engine Inn which was adequate. We ate in St Ives or Penzance.
The camping field is an 'L' shaped field with a dividing line of trees between the tents on each side. This leaves quite a lot of space in front of each tent but this space is also used as 'road'for campers reaching their pitches and on the left hand side of the field, cars seemed to come quite close to the tents. This road became a mud pit in the wet weather too so a pitch on that side did not appear pleasant in some spots!
Unlike, the previous posters, we did not encounter anyone called 'Big Al'! There was no sign of activity out on the site, cleaning or otherwise, but I have to say the toilets and showers were clean enough so someone must have been doing something!
The owners seemed friendly and helpful and our pitch was good, however, I very much doubt the claim that all pitches are 30 feet and would advise that this is checked on booking. Certainly, the corner pitches were very small and hemmed in and could not have accorded with these measurements.
Other posters mentioned about a separate field being available for children to play in. However, the 'do's and don't's' list we were handed on arrival expressly requests that this field is not used as it is for the use of cottage guests.
One minor quibble was the dryer. You have to buy tokens for the washing machine and dryer which is frankly a pain! This means you either have to stock up on them in advance or go and get them when you see the machine is free and hope it is still free when you get back with tokens and washing! The dryer was pretty useless at a £1 a token. I put a medium size load in on hot and fed £3 of coins in which gave me about 40 mins but the clothes were still damp and as the owners had run out of coins, it was annoying to be left with damp clothes in wet weather.
Finally, there are no rules about the time when campers are expected to be quiet which I found unusual for a 'quiet' site. Cars can (and do) come and go well after 11 and you really are reliant on the courtesy of others when rules are not in place. This was not a problem in the second week but there were a few noisy people close to us in the first week.

This was the second time we have stayed at this site. It is a fairly small grassy site with glorious views from the fields behind of St Michael's Mount and is about 2 miles from Penzance. The owners are extremely friendly and the site is kept immaculate due to help from 'Big Al'. There are toilets, showers, washing up facilities which are kept very clean. The site allows dogs and is popular with families. There are numerous places to visit within easy driving distance of the site as Cornwall caters for all ages. The site also has a few small holiday cottages and a couple of static homes for rent. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked for a third year and this time for 2 weeks. Highly recommended to all and well worth a visit.

Well what can I say than what a fantastic site and a gem of a find, this site is fantastically located for exploring penzance and st ives the facilities on this site are lovely and clean and although there is no shop on the site there is a great farm shop just up the road from the site which I can highly recommend, the owners are a great couple and when we unexpectedly decided to stay an extra night it was no problem at all.
The site itself offers 1 camping field with a few select plots offering electricity, the plots are of a decent size although the field does slope down some what it is more than made up for by the views.
All in all a brilliant site
