Burravoe Pier - is one of the common community owned, volunteer maintained, small caravan / motorhome parks, which shares its facilities with local fishermen & users of the marina ….
It looks out over the marina, and the pitches, with ehu, are hard tarmac standings, so not suitable for awnings ….
It has a small kitchen + washing machine for communal use, and the toilets & electric showers were clean & adequate ….
It is set in a beautiful location, with ample scope for coastal walks & wildlife spotting (we saw our first ever Otters) ….
We paid £20 per night ….

Absolutely loved this place! As others have said facilities are excellent with information about local events on posters.
I didn’t do the circular walk round the cliffs as a neighbour told me there was a section ( towards the end of an 8/9 km walk) that banned dogs! I did lots of cliff walking as well as walks to and round the village ( network of footpaths) and to the wonderful little shop.
Old haa museum and tea room in easy walking distance but didn’t visit ( not dog friendly). I stayed an extra night because of ferry repairs ( planned and forewarned) but I certainly didn’t regret the extra day! The weather helped - I was able to get a week’s worth of washing dried in an afternoon!
Probably not ideal for small children as there is nothing to prevent them wandering onto the road with people arriving at the pier.

Burravoe Campsite is a small setup based at a pier, surrounded by small fishing boats, seals in the bay, various birds flying by and the chance of seeing an otter!
Main thing to know is that you cannot book in advance and therefore there is a risk the site may be full when you arrive, however so far on our 4 visits and counting we have always got a space.
On arrival you select your hookup spot / tent space & payment is made via a honesty box so just pop your payment in an envelope (provided) and put through the door or alternatively you can pay via bank transfer.
2023 prices : Tent @ £10 per night, caravan / motorhome @ £20 per night.
Facilities included are two bathrooms (one is disabled accessible) one shower room and a small kitchen area which includes a sink, microwave, toaster, kettle, washing machine and tumble dryer.

Great stopover with clean facilities and wonderful views.
A short walk to the cliffs where we were treated to a sighting of seals.
Definitely a good place to stay when on Yell.

Really loved this site as great views and a good walk on our doorstep. Completed the whole walk on a glorious day, Helga Ness and Ladies Hole.
Toilets clean and added bonus of a washing machine ( didn’t use on this occasion).
Could easily have stayed longer, maybe in the future. Thank you.

Burravoe is quite the nicest campsite on the island of Yell - a small harbourside area with splendid views, pet-friendly easy walks and an excellent amenities block.
We also had splendid dry weather in June and thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the northern Shetland isles.
The Burravoe group, all volunteers, do not take bookings (unsurprisingly, as it would be a major commitment) and so a fairly early arrival is advised. Payment is on an honesty system and is both very fair and does not seem to be abused.
Burravoe has an interesting museum (The Old Haa) with a small tearoom and there is also a small but well-stocked community shop.
We found it possible to visit most of Yell and Unst (the northernmost Shetland island) whilst there and enjoyed the stunning scenery and wonderful birdlife, as well as watching many seals.

A really nice small site, albeit slightly sloping.
Excellent location on the shore.
Facilities in adjacent hut were clean and adequate.
Kitchen area included a microwave which was useful. Lovely coastal walks directly from site.
Highly recommended.

Great spot, great facilities and so pleased this exists.
Nice and clean basic community run site.
Washing machine and drier was a big plus, and lovely views out to the small harbour.
