1st class service, with great friendly team on site. The bar and restaurant was excellent with fair prices.

The swimming pool was good and overall the site was good. On the negative side, the showers were limited.

Very few touring guests were on site on the week we stayed, and the were clean and adequate. However the number would prove problematic if the site was full to capacity.

The showers/toilets were also cleaned between 8 and 9am when you would expect them to be most busy.

We would recommend the site and will probably stay again.

I would strongly suggest that people ignore the negative reviews of this site. There has been a huge amount of investment since the earlier reviews and the site is now really very good.

From the friendly staff through to the facilities there is everything here for a really enjoyable break.

Highlights:

Close to the beach.

Beautiful views.

Great walking locally.

Plenty to do in the area.

Good food and drink options nearby.

Very good bar and restaurant on site.

Nice large level fully serviced pitches, good size.

Variety of accommodation choices.

We are fortunate to only live an hour away and this will be a regular site for us.

Just spent a week here, first off I have to say they have invested loads of money in the site and are continuing to do so, its a mix of chalets and pitches for tents, seasonal and touring.

The access road is narrow in places but we were ok with our 7. 5m motorhome with tow car on the back.

There is a great cafe (although not the cheapest its food is great), and a bar & restaurant on site selling a good range of beers and drinks.

The swimming pool was till closed as its being refurbished but is expected to open in June 22. The beach is fabulous but is a long way down the cliffs.

Local area is very beautiful and there are good transport links to Plymouth via the foot ferry and buses along the coast.

 Fabulous time

Staff very friendly

Cafe was slow with the orders and it was a shame all the food was stopped at 9pm especially the pizza take away

I must say that the shower block was impeccable absolutely spotless

Would definitely stay there again

Didn’t have children with us so didn’t take any notice

In common with other reviews, we were very pleased with the location of this site, in an old fort, near to a great beach.

I know we visited in the first week of the relaxation of Lockdown rules, but this site could really benefit from a healthy dose of TLC. It feels decidedly unloved and as stated in previous reviews, the hardstanding pitches are really close together.

You could not pitch a unit and awning and park your car on the same pitch. The swimming pool has no roof.

I cannot comment on showers/toilets etc as they were still closed.

The food was nice in the restaurant and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Tidy it up and have a bit of a rethink and it could be great!

Overall a rough experience of camping at Whitsand. The roads leading to the site are not for the faint hearted, at places they are very narrow, so be prepared to drive into the occasional bush if there is a car coming toward you.

The site has 40 pitches for tourers and tents, but only 4 "family cubicles". These consist of a toilet, 2 sinks and a shower. The facilities really need upgrading, there are signs of mildew. The site owners appeared to be in there every morning though attempting to mop and clean.

There are laundry facilities, a games room and a pool. The pool is an added bonus and access is included with your pitch. However, the signs of wear and tear really bring it down.

The hard standing section of the site is very narrow. We were originally given pitch 3, but couldn't have landed in it without putting the caravan through the motor home pitched in front. A pile of gravel left next to pitch 3 didn't help the situation. Be careful of the granite lumps left on the grass to prevent people from hitting the water points, they can't be seen from the seat of a 4x4.

There is no room for an awning on the hard standing pitches.

The site has really close access to a beautiful beach, but the access is via a lot of steep steps. If you have any health issues you'll find the trip takes a long time (and hurts).

The pub on site serves limited but very nice food and has a well stocked bar.

The pool shop on site is not so well stocked, and contains a cafe which I would really suggest avoiding. The staff are rude, forget about orders and give you frozen hash browns in your breakfast sandwiches.

Plymouth is only 20 minutes away using the Torpoint ferry.

The fort is full of history and there are plenty of things to explore in the area.

We paid £152 for the 4 nights over a bank holiday, we unfortunately would not return.

If history is your thing, you will find this campsite fascinating, as it is set partly within the 19th century battery established to protect the naval dockyards at Devonport. Guided tours are given on Sundays. Our caravan was right opposite one of the gun emplacements.

The staff here were without exception welcoming, friendly and helpful. There is a cafe and bar on site, both providing meals, plus everyone staying gets free access to the indoor swimming pool.

Some of the pitches are a long walk from the toilets and showers, although the website makes this clear. Also, the number of toilets and showers is very small for the number of guests. As our caravan is self contained, this did not bother us, and to be fair, whenever I visited, I did not have to wait. All facilities were clean and tidy.

The walk down to the beach nearby is steep, but as an overweight 73 year old, I managed it even in a heatwave, and the beautiful beach is definitely worth the effort, and never crowded.

All in all, an interesting site in a less well known corner of Cornwall. Well worth trying !

Somewhat disappointed to find that there are no seaviews from the pitches, some however have a view over towards Plymouth. Pitches could do with a bit of a tidy up & a fair amount of mud around.

A lot of the pitches seemed to be occupied by permanent residents & it all looked a bit shabby.

Toilet & shower block is in dire need of an upgrade, there are just 2 each for male & female & these contain the toilets as well, had to wait near;y 10 minutes to use the loo as someone in shower!

Shop & cafe seemed OK & the bar area was not too bad.

Arrived to be told that Saturday night there was a wedding and the restaurant bar would be closed, first we knew about it but reception said an email had been sent explaining (still not received it when we got home) however not a big issue as plenty of options in vicinity.

Site not what was expected from ratings and a blackwater disposal in open air down a clay pipe with no grille and no flush (tap only) and no cover from elements just about summed things up. Unsure where grey waste disposal was. Dogs roaming free including children's play area one barked outside till 0200. Heavy rain meant grass waterlogged and van surrounded by large puddles, however this is a UK site in November.

Caravans are the poor relations here.

Unable to complain following day, reception closed.

The staff we dealt with the previous 2 days though were very helpful and friendly.

Showers had plenty of hot water but the huge family rooms are only heated by a towel rail.

Brilliant countryside though and suggest pitching elsewhere and visit the peninsular by car or bus.

Still looking for the spectacular south facing pitches when we left as the only view of the nearby sea was when you climbed on top of the battlement walls - all caravan pitches are down below the level of the walls.

We have just spent a wonderful night and day at Whitsands Bay.

We had an amazing pitch, near the gun emplacement. The view is stunning. We found the showers very clean with plenty of hot water.

There were plenty of picnic tables and areas where you could sit and enjoy the view.

We also enjoyed a free tour of historical parts of the site-the military use of the fort prior to the site being a leisure park.

We will be going back very soon.
