 As we have a relatively new-to-us Buccaneer Commodore Caravan (wider and longer than our previous 'van)and a new tow car(VW Touareg) we decided we would have a relatively short journey to our first break of the 2024. (It was just over 60 miles from our home in Criccieth)
We arrived on late on a Wednesday afternoon and the car sat nav gave us a'van-friendly route around the outskirts of Aberystwyth. I would NOT advise towing through the centre of Aberystwyth - lots of narrow/one-way streets.
The site is just where the countryside to the south of the town just a few hundred yards along the A4120 from the the A487. We did not walk into the town
The access to the site from the A4120 was easy with a wide entry. I parked near the entrance whilst Cary walked to check in at reception in the owners house. I did this because the turning to the touring part of the site is immediately after the entrance and having seen the site plan online I was not sure if there was room to maneouvre car and 'van outside reception.
The male owner came out and pointed out available pitches and then left us to choose. We chose a pitch at the top of the site with lovely distant views over the lovely countryside to the sea and the town. It was, however, steeply sloping and even with the van's self-levelling we struggled to level the 'van.
There is a small children's play area with equipment and plenty of space on the grass for games.
The owning couple were VERY HELPFUL indeed. They came out, after their "openin hours" IN THE RAIN when we could not get the EHU to work. It turned out that our lead had a broken connection in the plug. After testing the EHU they loaned us a hook-up lead. When they saw that we were struggling with levelling the 'van the man brought extra concrete blocks in his digger and actively helped with us setting up the 'van
The site was very quiet and not very busy even over the Bank Holiday weekend. The touring area has a large number of 'vans on season pitches. The large and well-spaced touring pitches are a mixture of grass and hardstanding and it was an easy walk to the drinking water, grey water and toilet emptying point.
The toilet block was quite a walk from our pitch but on the few occasions we used it we found it to be clean and well-stocked. There is, also, a laundry room with token operated tumble dryers and washing machines. The cost was £30 per night with one night in 7 free which we thought was reasonable for hardstanding pitch including unmetred electricity AND reliable Wi-fi.
The weather was, unfortunately, very mixed with a lot of rainy and windy days but some sunny ones too. We had some pleasant days out. We drove to Devil's Bridge A4120 at the campsite entrance is a direct drive through the lovely the countryside of the Vale of Rheidol.
At Devil's Bridge we took on the challenge (for us - I have a dodgy knee) of the 600+ step path down and into the gorge to see the spectacular Devil's Falls. Afterwards we rewarded ourselves to a lovely lunch on the patio of the Hafod Hotel.
On another sunny day we drove into Aber and took the funicular railway to the top of Constitution Hill. The views were spectacular and we enjoyed the cafe and the camera obscura with it's interesting display of old photos and posters. We then wondered around the shopping area just back from the promenade.
On another day we returned to Devil's Bridge on the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway. We treated ourselves to seats in the First Class observation carriage which was very comfortable with individual armchairs and a viewing area at one end - there was only one other family in this carriage on the outward and return journeys.
When we arrived at Devil's Bridge we did the shorter walk down to the falls on the other side of the bridges. This gives a a good view both of the Punchbowl, a hollow worn by the water, and the 3 bridges built one of top of the other.
There is a very interesting museum adjacent to Railway's Aberystwyth Station with a an interesting selection of both narrow gauge and full gauge locomotives and rolling stock. Entrance to the museum is included in the ticket price and on there was a guided tour and activities for children when we were there.
Aberystwyth has a number of interesting independent shops plus Morrisons, Tesco and Lidl supermarkets and a few chain stores like B&M, Matalan, Home Bargains and M&S.
For a final day out we drove along the floor of the Rheidol Valley and visited the Reservoir, Power Station Cafe and adjacent Butterfly House. The latter was very interesting. It is a hot and humid poly tunnel filled with a huge variety of free-flying, colourful butterflies and moths from all over the world. It was possible to have the butterflies and moths land on us which made a good photo opportunity.
All in all I would warmly recommend this site.

This campsite has shot to the top of my list of campsites that we've used in Wales. It is expensive (£26pn Inc ehu) but you get an included WiFi code which is exclusive to your pitch,
The most wonderful all round sea and town views, you can choose your own pitch, there are water taps and Elsan points close to all the pitches, so no long walks for water.
But the best thing was the scrupulously clean facilities block with (really hot) showers and they don't have that annoying push button tap that keeps going off in the middle of soaping yourself.
You are at the top of a hill so you will need some levelling, but do not let that put you off coming here, because it is worth it. The town's not bad either!

Sea views and the sun sets are amazing. Plenty to do in Abber and if you fancy a day trip to Shrewsbury, plenty of trains to get there.
Pitches are not numbered so you can drive around and find one that you like but bear in mind the pitches against the long hedge have the road behind it.
Tip if you want WIFI check your signal first before you pitch as the signal varies.

Enjoyed our stay at Midfield.
Quiet and open site with great views of the sea Aberystwyth and mountains and Red Kites for company.
An easy 30min walk to town but bit of drag back as portion up hill. Bus stop close to site.
Facilities basic but clean and plentiful. Will need ramps to get level.
Would recommend

Site has lovely views but the toilet block located in what can only be described as a shed, was dirty and uncared for.
The entrance doors hadn't been painted for years, the paint had come off so badly the bare wood showed. There was no heating at all, the toilets were dirty and no sanitary bins provided. No chairs in the showers or anywhere to put your shoes or clothes so they had to be left outside to avoid them getting wet. In the sink area there were cobwebs and dead spiders on the walls and there was also nowhere to your wash bag.
Apart from our arrival we never saw the site owner at all.

I stayed here for two nights, my first time on the site. I have previously stayed at Aberystwyth Holiday Village which is now only available for long term stayers. Arriving at the Midfield site I was impressed with the commanding views over the whole of Aberystwyth. The proprietor was friendly and helpful, and suggested a number of suitable pitches so I chose one with a good view over the town.
On both evenings I walked into Aberystwyth. Only the first couple of hundred metres of road from the site are without a pavement and is all downhill toward the town centre. For the return journey I took a taxi from the station entrance and this came to just over a fiver. In each case the driver knew where the site is.
Although the weather was cold and windy I found the shower and toilet block perfectly usable, it was clean with plentiful hot water. As a tent user my only gripe with the site, and it is a very minor one, is that there was a very powerful floodlight on the main reception building which woke me up, so on the second night I parked my car to stop it shining on the tent.
I will definitely return next time I am visiting Aber.

This is a fantastic site - we return every year, and have done for the past 10 years. It's a quiet site, doesn't have a clubhouse, but that's why we like it. The owners are on site, but leave you alone which is great. The views over the sea, hill fort, mountains and the town are amazing. And fields of sheep.
The site is sloping in parts, but there are plenty of pitches on the flat for caravans/campers and for tents. Conveniently located electric hook up points, taps, bins and an excellent TV signal. Chemical disposal point is down by the toilets / shower block. Plentiful showers which are nice and hot (and free).
There's a children's play area with a climbing frame / slide. Dogs welcome, with a separate dog walking area with great views over the town. A supermarket nearby, and lots to do in town - restaurants, shops, arts centre, museum, cinema, steam railway, cliff railway.
Around Aberystwyth is the most beautiful countryside for driving, walking or biking - Davil's Bridge waterfalls, Hafod estate, Elan Valley lakes, Ynyslas nature reserve, Rheidol valley to name but a few.
Ideal location to explore other parts of Wales, or just to relax at a campsite with beautiful views.

Arrived in the rain having booked and paid in advance. Nice site although on a slope so blocks needed to level van.
Lady in charge gave us a few instructions but we could not find place to empty toilet. A sheet with instructions on would have been useful. Toilets fine and washing dishes area.
We would stay again as it had a lovely view down into town.

We stayed here for one night on our way to St David's.
Also it was an excuse to see again the place where my daughter went to university and met her future husband.
The site is on the outskirts of the town high up so there were amazing views from the site.
We were left to pitch ourselves which we did, near the facilities.
They were adequate with lots of toilets and showers.
It was easy to find and the access was good.

We spent two wet days here at the end of April during a trip of West/North Wales. The site is on quite a busy road but we were not troubled by noise. The views over Aberystwyth are fantastic, particularly from the pitches at the top of the site. However, the whole site slopes which made levelling our motorhome a real problem. There are sufficient water/waste disposal points around the site & the bonus of free wifi.
It is possible to walk into Aberystwyth but not recommended. The road outside the site is very steep and there is no footpath - very dangerous! The remainder is downhill, built up and not very attractive. Local taxis are plentiful and around £5. 00 each way.
The toilet block is located in what looks like an agricultural building of unfinished breeze blocks & corrugated roof. There is no heating at all making the facility cold & draughty. Whilst there are ample toilets and showers with hot water, this facility was grubby and completely unacceptable in this day and age. We felt that this campsite offered very poor value for money and we will not return.
