This campsite is fantastic for families with children. We visited May half term. The site is large and flat, with pitches all marked out in rows.
There are only 2 amenity blocks for 300 pitches, so I was amazed there was only a queue for showers between 8 and 9am. I can only think that most of the serviced pitches have their own. The toilets and showers were always clean. A small play park on the site, and another at the cafe. Kids on bikes around the site all day.
Because of the number of kids, there was a lot of noise through the evening, up until quiet time at 10pm. You'd struggle if trying to get little ones to sleep earlier. Mornings thankfully quiet til 8am. Site rules on fire safety were strictly enforced, but the ban on ball games and electric go-carts was ignored. (I didn't see any go faster than a pedal bike to be fair).
The campsite is surrounded by woods, so quite sheltered from wind, with lovely birdsong in the morning. Beware mosquitos- I only got one on the wide open site, but a woodland walk was rapidly abandoned as I got swarmed.
There's a cafe which is handy for pizza, chips ice cream etc. A tiny shop in the visitor centre sells bare essentials (milk, toothpaste etc), but no eggs, bread, fruit.
I prefer a more secluded, natural camping experience, but the best thing about the campsite is location.
It's in Pembrey country park, which is 500 acres of parklands, criss crossed with paths and cycle tracks. (Bring bikes or a buggy). It's a fantastic place for children. Huge open meadows for kite-flying or games, woods for exploring and climbing. We enjoyed the toboggan run, the historical trail (download the free app before you go), pump track, adventure playground and crazy golf. There are free public toilets and ice cream kiosks at all the attractions.
We walked on the beach to see shipwrecks. The beach is beautiful -miles of golden sand, but not great for kids. It seems to be in a wind tunnel, (a gentle breeze in the park was fierce on the beach) also the tidal range is massive, low tide is a 10-15 minute walk to the water from the shore. There are lots of interesting shells on the tide line, but no rock pools and the dunes are not safe to climb.
We cycled along the millennium coast path to Burry Port for lunch. The path is beautiful, flat and car free. I'd love to go back when my child can cycle further.

We stayed at this campsite from a Friday for 4 nights. For a large site primarily catering for families I was surprised that the site didn't have a small on site shop for basic provisions. You would need to drive the short distance to Burry Port to the Co-op or come stocked up!
It was busy and noisy over the Friday and Saturday evening and not just with children shouting and racing bikes up and down the access roads. Adults also seemed to be quite loud as well! Thankfully the site emptied out considerably on the Sunday morning so it was much quieter.
I felt the showers were fairly basic and my husband was not impresses with them either. There is no shower curtain or divider to protect clothes and unless you managed to get a "double" shower cubicle there was very little space to dry properly and no seat or shelf to put things. The temperature was ok although not adjustable.
It is a fair walk to the beach (we drove to one of the car parks by the beach). So be aware of this if you think it's only a 5 min walk as it isn't.
We also had an issue with mosquitoes whilst at the campsite and we both got very badly bitten. I ended up on antibiotics and having to treat my bites with steroid cream on our return home!
I'm not sure we'd return to this campsite but if we did I'd probably stay during the week rather than the weekend as it was too busy and noisy for us personally.

This is my second time to Pembrey and both visits have been during the summer months.
This stay was right at the end of August - and welsh schools had just returned, so there were fewer families on site.
Our first visit had many families and I note from other reviewers that this seems to have caused some issues.
It is a great site for families, so if you don't like the noise that children naturally make, then don't visit during the summer. For me, it's not a problem.
The reason for my second visit is due to the fantastic beach (great for dog walking - but check the sign were dogs can go) and for the cycle path which runs for miles along the coastline.
The beach is a good 20 minute walk away - so OK if you're fit enough. To drive closer you will need to pay for parking.
It lovely to walk and cycle within the Country Park so great for motorhomers (though there are no shops food shops in walking distance).

Lovely surroundings, great toilet and shower facilities, nice restaurant.
Massive long golden sandy beach and acres of pine woods with many tracks and paths.
Loads for kids to do in a pleasant and safe environment.

Had a lovely 3 night stay, our pitch was in a lovely location and close enough to toilets/showers. I do feel the site could offer so much more if the council put their mind to it,
The site could definitely benefit from having a shop there.
One thing that I wasn’t particularly happy with was the fact that people opposite us had a fire pit going every night with flames being quite high, despite the brochure stating “no open fires”, given the location of the site (country park) I did feel that it was quite irresponsible and maybe there should be wardens patrolling at night making sure that this sort of thing doesn’t happen.

Probably the best natural camp site in Wales if not the UK, Natural for its sheer beauty with woodland walks and its fantastic stretch of beach.
No clubs bars or shops just a refreshment welcome centre so bring food drink etc, they do have other attractions on site for youngsters of all ages
Check it out online minimum stay two nights

Good site within easy walking distance to massive beach. Loads of walking and bike riding opportunities in a large country park.
Unfortunately facilities and other park amenities were closed due to covid restrictions.
Various types of pitches available for all types of vehicles or tents. Nice coastal walk into Burry Port.
Stayed before, and will definitely return.

Lovely site limited toilets showers. Next to country park and beach, great walks cycling.
Burry Port 10 min drive away beach harbour pubs super market.
4 miles to Llanelli about 8 to Carmarthen which is a really nice Wales oldest town 1hr to Tenby.
Have stayed here 3 times and will stay here many more I hope. Great for the mutts.

Fab site, good size pitches (all grass), can’t comment on toilets & showers as were closed due to COVID.
Not over strict on rules regarding dog enclosures or windbreakers as gardens. Wardens seen around site but not obtrusive.
Access for the beach is not easy if you have mobility or health Issues and have a dog as you have to go over sand dunes so beware to struggle.
Lots of attractions in the park were closed again due to COVID.
Would stay again as good value for what it is. £28 for a fully serviced pitch in July 👍

First time to this site and excellent value for money (facilities currently closed but is a toilet at top of site near cafe if need it and always very very well cleaned and kept like that throughout the day)
Beach was beautiful and good for us with dogs although when tide goes out be prepared for a march to the water.
Excellent wardens, friendly and helpful
Looking forward to returning again and getting to use shower blocks and for the crazy golf to be finished and open (looks fab tho)
Thanks for a wonderful week away. Only thing I would do different is take insect repellent as I got bite badly, although none of other members of family did.
