After camping regularly for the past 12 years I feel well qualified to give an opinion on a campsite. And Higher Moor is a real gem!
The field is flat, the pitches are nicely spaced out around the perimeter and the shower block is clean and more than adequate for the number of guests.
The owners of the site, an elderly couple, were a delight to engage with. The lady was up every morning at 6`clock cleaning the shower/toilette block while her better half was always knocking about maintaining the site.
Location wise, there were at least 3 beaches within a 40 minute stroll negating the necessity to pay the £8 parking charge which seemed the norm.
Would I recommend this campsite? Well if you`re looking for a campsite that`s buzzing with a club house, bar and games room for the children, then no, but if you`re after one that`s clean, well maintained occupying an ideal location in a beautiful part of the country then look no further!

Absolutely lovely stay at this well run & very clean site - visited last year and will definitely be coming back again next year!
Family friendly / dog friendly - travelled with neither but was still great as everyone respectful of others.
Lovely fresh home grown vegetables grown & for sale on site - delicious salads with edible flowers - a real culinary treat
We also took advantage of fresh fish delivery - beautiful prepared crab & scallops & prawns which we cooked- I would say the best meal we had for a fraction on restaurant prices ( the few available eating places were busy & not particularly looking to entice customers)
Weather was fab - but even if it was otherwise, the hosts are friendly & we recommend this site!
Thank you !

I stayed here for the half term week which was mostly wet and windy (35 mph SW). The tent field is large, flat, well drained and surrounded by a mature hedge. I even found a really good sheltered spot, tucked under a large evergreen in the far corner, so the winds didn't cause a problem.
The facilities are fantastic, well equipped and kept vey clean. There is a freezer and washing up room too. Very few others staying this time of year, surprisingly. £7 pppn, great value.
Crantock is a 15 minute walk where you'll find The Old Albion Inn, great for food and beer. The beautiful beach at Porth Joke is also a 10 minute walk away, great for seal watching.
Excellent walks across Perran Beach to Perranporth and to Newquay but check the tide times across the Gannel estuary across the tidal bridge. Morrisons at Newquay, 10 minute drive.
Excellent campsite with fantastic access to the coast. Quiet too, considering you're so close to Newquay.

The campsite is in a beautiful setting with easy access to 3 fantastic beaches, all within walking distance. The pitches have plenty of space to park a car and sit outside. The facilities are modern and maintained to a good standard.
The owners made us feel very welcome and were helpful in answering our questions about the local area.
A farm shop selling most of the items you need is within a 2 minute walk of the site.
Great location for a family holiday.

Since converting a van, into a mini camper, I have spent the last few weekends visiting parts of Cornwall I rarely go to. The Newquay area being one!.
I found this site and boy what a beauty. Lovely flat field, great facilities, enough, but not over the top (as I like) and easy access to walks on Cubert Common and to Porth Joke for my dogs and I. The owners were very pleasant.
My only very small gripe is the £2. 50 charge per dog, per night and have adjusted my value for money score accordingly.
I will certainly be returning at some point in the not too distant future.

Having used this site for the past 3 years, and once before several years ago, it was about time I submitted a review.
Put simply, this is an absolute gem of a site.
We first came across it when we stayed at the larger Treago Farm site many years ago, which is just up the lane from Higher Moor.
It is owned by a retired couple, John and Sue, and is probably the best site we have ever stayed on.
The site is comprised of one mainly flat field and a couple of other smaller fenced areas which are commonly used by small groups camping together. There are also 3 basic self catering log cabins and part of the bungalow, in which John and Sue live, is also hired out as self catering accommodation.
The main camping field is where we have stayed the four times we have used the site. Pitches are huge and for the past 3 years, where we have camped with our long standing camping friends, we have only needed one pitch for two tents. The site is surrounded by substantial hedges and trees which offer good shelter. It is best described as a small site and never feels busy or overcrowded.
The site is set down in a valley with lovely views of Cubert Common and its fabulous wildlife.
Pitches are set around the edge of the field leaving a huge area in the middle for children to play.
It is a very quiet site, despite the large number of families that stay, which is one of the real bonuses.
John and Sue keep the site in immaculate condition, and because of the sandy soil it has excellent drainage; I have never seen it in a muddy state despite having experienced some quite prolonged and heavy rain in the years we have stayed here.
Shower and washing up blocks are clean and really well maintained with ample hot water (I have never known the hot water to run out) There is a main shower and washing up block adjacent to the main field and further facilities, including a laundry room, attached to the rear of John and Sue's property. Although there are only a total of 4 men's and 4 women's showers, I have never had to wait for a shower.
There is a shed with freezer for ice packs and a few power points for charging up devices. There is a tank for rinsing out wet suits and an assortment of used body boards free to borrow. Also there are full recycling facilities and bricks and breeze blocks for BBQ's and Fire Pits. There are also giant Chess and Draughts games in a further grassed area.
John and Sue grow loads of their own produce which you can buy. Fresh fish can be ordered for a once a week delivery on a Wednesday.
You are also free to use the excellent shop, take away and bar at the Treago Farm site. Taking part in the Tuesday night quiz is a must!
The popularity of this site is borne out by the number of people who you see again year after year. When you get talking to other families you soon come across some who have been coming for decades.
The friends with whom we camp each year would only normally stay at one site for a maximum of three years and would then move on. However, this year, we were talking about what to do in 2017 and we both agreed that actually, there is no need to go anywhere else. This is such a beautiful site; perfectly located (you can walk to both Crantock and Polly Joke beaches) with easy access to pretty much anywhere else in Cornwall. Crantock is a lovely village too.
So, if John and Sue will have us, we will be back next year (2017) and every year thereafter.
If this review has whetted you appetite just bear one thing in mind.
First choice for bookings goes to those who stayed the previous year, and with so many people being repeat visitors, it can be difficult to secure a pitch. If you do, then like us, I suspect you will want to return again and again and again.

This site was recommended to us last year and this year was our second visit. What a beautiful site. Pitches are large, so no over crowding. Owners were very nice. Toilets clean. We also allowed a campfire which the site does not advertise! Short distance walk to beaches and there's plenty of them to chose from!

Returned to Higher Moor again! We have camped in all three sites in this area, and this is the best by far. Beach a reasonable walk away, close to farm shop up the road, and fruit and veg sold on site. Owners keep an understated eye on things. Facilities on the site are ALWAYS clean, and site is clean and litter free. Plenty of hot water and enough showers to service the needs of everyone there, I can't recall ever having to wait. There are also laundry facilities available - washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron. There is a supply of body boards, buckets and spades for campers to borrow. Everyone on the site is friendly, dogs welcomed - and the pitches are large. My only reason for not reviewing the site before is because I love its quietness. Many thanks for making our numerous holidays so memorable.

A lovely little site, this! Excellent toilets/showers/washing up facilities. Could do with a chemical loo disposal facility - if there is one, i couldn't find it. Short walk of beaches at holywell and jolly poke. Crantock village, also but a short walk, has some excellent pubs/eateries as well as a beautiful church - which you must visit - so much character! The campsite itself is well looked after and has some very pretty views up to cubert common. Just a couple of minutes walk away is a convenience shop/takeaway/bar within a nearby farmhouse complex. Would thoroughly recommend this site. Have visited it a number of times, now and am never bored!
