 We chose this site because it was relatively close to Bangers & Cash. And no we didn't leave with a 'new' car. We also found that castle Howard was very close and Stamford Bridge not far away, also an interesting visit.
The site was nice and peaceful, everything we needed which is water, electricity and waste disposal. There are on site facilities but we didn't use them.
There is a pub on the village short walking distance but not open every day, so we didn't manage a meal or drink there.
Staff were friendly and helpful. As we had 2 dogs and were given a choice of where to pitch we chose the far end as it was more remote. The downside was that there was a treatment plant at the end which intermittently let off nasty niffs. Not to bad or persistent but occasionally noticeable outside.
Also as with most CCC sites there was only one water supply tap, some distance away. Too far for my 3 lengths of expanding hose.
There was a good dog walk across the road from the site, along a path that went, a long way further into the distance than I went. Yes a god site we would be happy to use again.

To Find Site:- From York on the A64 head towards Malton. About 7 miles from York take left turn signed for castle Howard. This seems to be an unclassified road but it is reasonably wide although up and down dale! You have to negotiate two archways on this route, one wider than the other but we managed fine with our motorhome.
When you arrive at the B1257 you go straight across and follow camping signs to the site. From the Scarborough direction leave A64 at Malton and turn right onto B1257 to Slingsby, turn right into village at crossroads and follow the camping signs.
The C&CC site at Slingsby is situated on the old Slingsby Railway Station, which was on the now defunct Thirsk to Malton line. This is a fairly small site with just 55 pitches 22 of them are hardstandings. The site layout is a long single site road with a wider section near the entrance to the site.
There is a single facility block of a nice standard with toilets and showers plus a washing up area. There is also a small laundry room with a washer and a dryer and a couple of sinks. The only toilet emptying point is also in this block.
There are a couple of fresh water taps and grey waste water disposal points towards each end of the site. The motorhome drive over service point is near the exit from the site.
The electrical connections, are close to each pitch and use CEE17 blue connectors and are rated at 16 amps. Site WiFi is available which is free to use, check with reception for password. 4G signal varies a bit as does voice calls from in the van.
We found the TV reception a bit hit and miss but we were near trees which may have impacted on the signal strength. A fish and chip van calls once a week, details from Reception.
Probably a major reason for staying at this site is the reasonable access to castle Howard which is about 5 miles away. There is plenty of parking (free) for motorhomes although it gets very busy at weekends and holidays.
There is not a lot in the village of Slingsby except for the Grapes pub which does not open on Monday or Tuesdays. There is a bus service in the village operating on a roughly two- and half-hour frequency serving stops between Malton and Hovingham.
The site appears not to sell any provisions so Malton, about 6 miles away would probably be the nearest shopping opportunity.

Have visited this site 4 times in last 10 years, but not for at least 3 year. Easy access and location for visiting Malton, Eden Camp, York etc.
Site wardens were the most helpful and chatty that I have ever met, nice change, a real welcome.
The site is relatively flat and has choice of hardstanding or grass, area away from toilet block has views over fields. It is a smallish quiet site ideal for a quick break.
The toilet block could do with a re vamp/design. The ladies had the smallest hand sink, so small there was only a couple of inches between the spouts of the taps.
Didn't use the showers as prefer own facilities. Apparently the mens could do with more toilet cubicles.
This site was chosen as a meeting place for friends from Nottingham and us from N. Yorks.

Lovely little site. Definitely better for older children as there isn't an on site park but staff did direct us to the local playing fields.
We had a jumbo pitch (1 of 3) which is at the far end by the sewage works, smells varied depending on wind direction and weather but didn't really bother us.
Kind of expect ripe smells camping in the countryside. 6 Miles to the local supermarkets in Malton so driving essential. Good central location for exploring north yorkshire moors, east coast, howardian hills, York etc.
Would go back as enjoyed the peace and quiet.

A small quiet site between Helmsley and Pickering. Slingsby village has no shops but the farmhouse right next to the campsite sells home-made fruit loaves (highly recommended).
There is also one pub with outdoor dining, and pizzas at weekends. The castle ruins near the lovely old church are out of bounds.
The site is an excellent base for cycling a maze of quiet lanes in the Howardian Hills. We rode to castle Howard, Kirkham Priory, Malton, Pickering and Helmsley.
The facilities are currently closed (Covid) apart from the toilet-emptying point, which is very clean with handwashing basin and gel provided.
The only problem was that the electricity supply fell to 190 volts when the site was busy. This was not enough to power our fridge, which we sometimes had to run on gas. The hookups round the site perimeter looked old and worn and perhaps rewiring is due?

Staff very helpful and friendly. The site is very clean and tidy. It is our 2nd visit here. Lots of walks directly from the site. Easy access to coast if required.
Castle Howard is just up the road. Pub is just down the road. On all our walks we did not come across any litter.
COVID restrictions apply so facilities were not available. Site staff sanitised water taps. Not a drawback but be aware there is a lack of shops in the area so come prepared.

Stayed on one of the jumbo pitches - great for our Icarus 500 with extension. Owners very friendly, but pitches are quite close together so expect to get quite friendly with your neighbours.
Lovely and quiet site: the kids loved cycling round and round. Toilets and showers kept beautifully clean, although at times all were closed for covid cleaning which isn't ideal when you're tenting with young children!
We weren't bothered by the sewage works, but then we weren't near it and the wind was blowing in the opposite direction.
Great cycling - there is a lovely trail right outside the campsite front door up into the Howardian Hills.
We'll be coming back here: it's no frills, but it works for us. (Although the kids would love a play park. )

This is a great site apart from there being three pitches which are overlooked, (about ten metres from the vans) by a huge sewage plant that is constantly flushing and gurgling, and at times very smelly. It beggars belief that anyone would consider placing pitches in such a location, where the outdoor experience is nothing but grim.
A great shame that such an otherwise lovely site is spoilt by these three isolated pitches.

Fabulous and enthusiastic reception by owners, whom had only been running it for around 8 days.
Very helpful.
Site was quiet, even though quite full.
Full apple tree on site, provided 1 of your 5 a day.

Came last year for anniversary(45) weather was really hot not able to walk dog but so restful & quiet. So we came back this year and again had a really hot day, peace & quiet.
Lovely little site, very friendly but must remember to carry our CCC cards to show we are entitled to the Age concession. Luckily it wasn't an issue. Customer service relaxed and friendly.
Toilets and showers clean and well kept, even though very busy had no problems getting a shower. No noise all very friendly. Will come again. Excellent hot water for washing dishes.
Great pub in village and excellent walking lanes.
