This was our second visit to Slingsby as we enjoyed it so much the first time. The site is very quiet and well maintained. All facilities are kept immaculately clean and well lit. The village, only minutes from site is a typical yorkshire village with home grown produce on sale at the gate with an honesty box for payment. The village pub, The Grapes is well worth a visit. The food is great and there are real ales and fine wines on offer. There are plenty of areas around to visit and enjoy.
The staff were very cheery and helpful.
I can see us going again next year.

Just had an extremely disappointing visit to this site. Very few of the previous reviewers have mentioned the big negative about this site - the smelly, noisy and unattractive water treatment plant. I commented on the smell when we were shown our pitch (we have large tent and so were allocated one of the jumbo pitches which are directly opposite the plant) and was told that the direction of the wind usually carried the smell off. Not the case - it was extremely unpleasant eating outside of our tent. The plant was the only 'view' from our pitch. I agree that the site itself and toilet/shower facilities are clean and well maintained. The village has a nice farm shop and the local pub serves good meals until 9pm. However, not enough for me to recommend this site.

Only stayed here for the weekend, but it was long enough to realize that it is a great little, quiet site for touring the area. The site itself was always clean and tidy as was the facilities even though it was quite full. The wardens were very helpful and friendly. The site is located on the edge of a pretty little village, with numerous walks from the site. I would recommend this site and will definitely return.

What wasn't to like about this small, friendly C & C Club site?
A pleasant location just outside a small village which had a functioning shop, pub, garage and, next door to the Site, a craft baker.
Plenty of walks on easy, level ground.
Close to several attractions - Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall(NT), Flamingo Land and NYMR.
A very friendly, helpful set of staff, only too happy to engage and tell you about the local barn owl, for example.
Warm washroom, clean showers and dishwashing area, always with fresh J Cloth on hand.
A main bus route to Malton about 1/2 mile away with connections through to York, Scarborough & Pickering.
Will certainly come back.

As expected for a camping and caravan club site it lives up to expectations.
The site is well laid out and the toilet and shower block is the best I've used to date.
The site warden was very helpful.
I had booked a jumbo pitch for our 2 tents but all of the jumbo pitches are opposite and within feet of a large water treatment facility which we could smell and the warden said it would make a continual flushing noise through the night. I immediately asked to move before I started unloading and we moved to a non-jumbo pitch which to be honest appeared to be bigger than the jumbo pitch.
All pitches have electric hookups and this was the first time we've used one which was worth it for the fan heater we took as there was a cold snap.
There was a chip van on site Saturday but we thought it was expensive and contrary to other reports the large portions were less than what we would get as regular at our chippy. We spent £10 on four large portions for 2 adults and 3 children. A large portion equated to 2 hand grabs worth of chips.
We visited York one day and one day we parked at Pickering and got a steam train to Goathland and back which everyone enjoyed.
We had planned either flamingo land or Whitby but weather was unsettled.
We also visited Helsmley but only stayed briefly for Ice creams.
We also went to Malton for a Chinese meal and on Saturday night we went to the village social club and had a couple pints of John Smiths at £1. 85 a pint. Bargain!
We would certainly visit site again.

Great site very friendly welcome and escort to your pitch with help to unhitch.
All types units and people including familes and kids on site all showing respect for each other, no noise, no balls or frisbees rattling your unit no noise after 10. 30.
Yes it can be done !
A credit to the wardens for keeping a clean tidy site but still being friendly.
Slingsby village lovely with one pub The Grapes up for sale but with temporary tenants in the shape of young couple running it who are great and good beer.
Didn't use the shop
Hourly bus service from the village to Malton which is a small Market town with a few pubs a market and some shops worth a visit.
Near Castle Howard which is grand but you don't get to see much of the inside of the massive house for what you pay but grounds are good.
Would definitely go back

Smashing little site though a bit crowded when busy. Like most camping and caravan club sites that I have visited the toilets block was very clean and warm but dated and in need of some refurbishment.
Unlike most sites the managers allow caravans to have their drawbars facing the views and not the other vans/tents.
The village has a pub but it was in the process of changing hands and some days didn't open. There are loads of walks from the site and the managers office has several small walking guides available for a very reasonable price.
It is handy for the coast, York and Flamingo land. No playground for kids.
Will be back very soon.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Slingsby. This is our first visit with our caravan, but we have stayed previously in a tent.
As always the staff were extremely friendly, and even thought it was 7pm on a full Friday night we were checked in with a smile, and very very promptly.
We were shown to our grass pitch, next to my in-laws that had been there since the night before, and the staff had done everything they could to keep the pitch for us. There had been an incident with a motorhome, where the battery exploded, and because the staff thought they hadn't been able to give us their full attention they were back over to us twice to make sure everything was OK.
The grass pitch was very level, and the ground is very firm so remember to take hard ground pegs.
Only went in the shower block once, as we tend to use the facilities in our van. But they were extremely clean - even though the site was full to capacity.
We just had a chill out weekend, so didn't visit anywhere, other than a few walks for the dog.
We would return to the Slingsby site at a drop of a hat, and just wished it was a little bit closer to home. It took us 1hr 45, and we normally try and limit to an hour on a weekend.

We booked in here for the Royal Wedding weekend, just a little 2 night stay and it was booked the day before.
We found the site without a problem, we used the rote from the York A64 and up past Castle Howard. There are some low, narrow arches on this road which are mentioned on the road signage but in standard ft/inches. My brain didn't work out the calculations into modern day metres/cm so we ducked off to the right on the diversion route.
I looked later in the manual for the C&CC and it states caravans fit through the arches, no motor homes mentioned!
The site is in a small village, right through the village and last place on your right. A small area outside reception, small reception with an ice cream fridge and a drinks fridge.
We were welcomed by the Holiday Site Manager and checked in no bother. There is a motorhome service point just near by but involves going the wrong way around the 1 way system.
After filling up the HSM showed us to a pitch, well gave us a choice of two.
The pitches on the right side of the site, mainly occupied by motorhomes were not that great really, generally your smaller MH's were on here like a panel van conversion. We had one of the pitches further round the 1 way system which were more of the expected standard with hard standing and then grass to the side.
Grass pitches are in the middle section.
The toilet blocks, washing area was all very nice, couple of showers in the gents, couple of toilets and then strangely more washbasin compartments than toilets. These were heated as well.
There is a pub in the village with a beer garden and looked to do food as well. The village shop opens for a couple of hours and was predictably shut when we needed some lemonade ;-)
We used the bikes to do the 2 miles to Castle Howard for a day out, the route is straight but hilly.
Castle Howard was ok, £8.50 per adult for garden/grounds only access. Look out for a 2for1 deal.
The site was quiet and people friendly, if in the area I would go back as long as I had one of the nicer pitches again. The others may have been cheaper and so they should.

A great peaceful site. Excellent walking with a pub and post-office in the local village (walking distance).
The staff, as always, were very friendly and the facilities were maintained to the highest standards.
We've been back to this site 3 time this year and are told they are looking to open all year, so when they do we'll be back. It's a great site for a weekend visit for us due to the being the closest site to our home. We usually meet up with friends from Liverpool or family on this site and always have a week-end to remember.
