We spent 6 days at Slingsby, it's a nice small site, very clean toilet block and facilities, we were sited at the bottom end of the site next to the water works with a nice view. Unfortunately we got the smell of the waterworks through out the holiday (probably due to summer as others have mentioned) and the flushing noise which we become used too.
Slingsby is a nice village with a pub (The Grapes) within walking distance, village store has the old traditional opening and closing times. There's no park on site but a small park and playing field is not far away!. Loads of places to visit by car.
On the site we found it's not really good for children, we have an 8yr old and 3yr old and found the warden a bit overly strict example: kids on bikes had to follow one-way system (what child knows about one-way systems?) and they were told to slow down as cars are only allowed to do 5mph so should the children!. When the kids were playing tag around the tents they were asked how old they were and where their pitches were? The only thing we noticed he wasn't strict about was the amount of dogs (i am a dog lover) and people walking them up the bottom part of the site and not on dog walks as well as this there was dog muck on the road where kids play and I didn't see him knock on every dog owner asking if they clean up after their dogs! We never complain but thought parents with children would like to know!

Slingsby is one of the club's better sites, it's size adds to a real community feel, attracting very sociable campers.
The site is located in a beautiful area with plenty of walking and friendly locals.
The toilet / shower facilities were exceptional and always clean to the highest standards. There is no children's facilities (a bonus for us without children).
There is a pub in walking distance from the site in Slingsby Village, although on this occasion we didn't visit the pub, there is a local store / post office with everything you would need.
The site staff were always very friendly and add to the community feel about the site. We've visited twice this year for long / short weekend breaks and will be returning and using this site as our weekend-getaways, due to its locality to our home.

This campsite is situated on an old railway siding and if you can pitch up on the right hand side with the front of the caravan facing out over the fields you will have a beautiful view. There are bird tables by the fence so bring some seed or leave your scraps on there and lots of different types of birds will visit.
It is a small and friendly campsite with the usual excellent standard of facilities that the club provides.
When you walk out of the site you are in the village. There is a cottage next door to the site where you can get homemade cakes and another one further up where you can get eggs and jam. There is a pub with food and entertainment which we didn't go into this time but we definitely will next time!
Straight across the road from the site is a public footpath which is great for walking the dog.
A fish and chip van visits Wednesdays and Saturdays about 5ish. The portion sizes are large.
There is a small shop in the village which opens early on Sunday mornings and only for a couple of hours.
The market town of Helmsley is worth a visit and is about 10 minutes drive away.

We spent 2 nights at this brilliant site mid week leaving the Thursday before the may day bank holiday. The site staff are very friendly making us very welcome. Worth buying the local walk book sold at the site as the area around is very pleasant with nice walks.
We ate at the local pub one night, the meals are very good and the beer is great.
Will be returning to this site that's for sure.

Stayed at this site for four nights mid April and it's fair to say the staff are the most friendly and helpful we have come across in many years caravanning, a real 'can do, will do, pleased to do team'.
The site is kept immaculately clean and tidy and the ablutions are spotlessly clean. The waste bins are emptied several times a day, but sadly, again there does not appear to be a serious recycling scheme in place.
We visited Farndale whilst at this site and found the daffodils to be brilliant at the time, due to being late because of the weather this year. A mobile fish and chip shop visits the site, they were delicious and portions large and only slightly more expensive than at home (only pennies).
There is a very quaint little shop at the other end of the village that seems to sell everything, though I only needed to use it for my morning paper. There is a pub in the village which does meals but we didn't use it. There is no playground at this site but as there is just the two of us it matters not.
The surrounding area is beautiful countryside and there are many attractions within easy reach, ie. Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Flamingoland, North Yorkshire Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire coast.
We will definitely be returning to this site

Just spent 2 nights on this site. Being a bank holiday it was busy and initially we could only get a pitch with 'no awning'. However the manager did some jiggling around and phoned us before we set off to tell us we had an awning pitch. That's what I call helpful.
On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who helped us un-hitch and move the caravan around until we were happy with the view! Toilet block was small but spotless and warm and considering the site was full we didn't have to queue once.
There is a small shop on site but it only stocks essentials.
My only issue (and it is a small one) is the lack of a children's play area. But our 5 year old didn't really complain!
The local village is lovely and the May Day celebrations were worth staying for. The manager allowed us to stay on site until 3pm with no extra charge.
All in all a little gem of a site and we'll definitely be back.

Stayed at this site for three nights over a weekend. Friendly staff who showed us to our pitch. The site was flat and long, running to some extent along a stetch of old railway track bed. This also makes the ground quite hard, so good pegs are required.
The main bit of the site is open with the toilet block in the centre, there is then a row of grass pitches with fields to one side and a fence to the other. This fence separates the pitches from the local water treatment works. Unfortunately our pitch was in this area. The view over the fields was great, but impacted by the smells, if the wind blew in the wrong direction, and sounds, especially at night, of the treatment works. Also being in this area it was a distance to walk to all the facilities, including water, refuse and the toilets which seem to be located to serve the main field.
The facilities were well maintained and the site is well located for local attractions. The village was holding May events over the weekend we were there and as visitors we were made to feel welcome.

Spent a lovely Easter Weekend at this site. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Even though busy the facilities coped very well. Very clean and tidy and we were give a choice of where to pitch.
There is lots to do in the area and it is very easy to get a train into York which we did on the one day it was meant to rain. We will certainly be back again.

The only site we have visited more than once.Excellent facilities and in a nice area.
Slingsby and its neighbouring villages are beautiful. Car boots on a Sunday morning on the sports ground in Slingsby, great farm veg at good prices.
Friendly staff, choice of pitches and also, important to us, you can site the van in any position so the view from the van can be whatever you want. You can also stop till noon on the day of leaving so no rushing about. We will visit this site again in 2010

Spent a week here at half term and were surprised to find it almost full.
Wardens most helpful, facilities spotless. Nice quiet site with level pitches. Good lighting all over the site. 3 showers in the ladies and also washing cubicles. Nice and warm even on cold mornings and plenty of hot water - showers very powerful - lovely. Indoor washing up area and a laundry, which were also well kept.
No play area for those with small children.
There is a sewage pumping thing at the bottom of the site but while we were there, the wardens didn't pitch anyone too close to this and anyway, there was no smell we could detect. Maybe this is a problem during the Summer months?
Good spot to visit the local attractions, of which there are lots. Castle Howard is close by.Well worth a visit - and the York park and ride is good value for money and runs a regular service into the City. Popular attractions in York really need to be prebooked as if not, you will have to wait in a very long queue.
Malton is the nearest place with a supermarket (Morrisons) and also is a pleasant town with lots of other shops and restaurants.
Found a nice pub quite local to the site - The Blacksmiths Arms, on the road to Malton. First rate food and good service at reasonable prices.
Will definitely be returning to Slingsby. Didn't get chance to see all we wanted to see in the area and the site itself was great.
