We have just spent the best 2 weeks ever in the caravan with our kids 12 & 14.

We have been caravanning in Cornwall for years, and have missed everything that is great about camping de letty.

The reception are great (booking vet for us), bar staff are a little slow but always serve with a big smile, snack bar was fine, shop on site was amply stocked with everything you needed & reasonably priced, pool is fantastic beach is a paddle boarders heaven.

We will be back next year for another great holiday.

Some pitches looked a bit hemmed in but our pitch was fantastic lovely neighbour's who had been going for 37 years.

All in all very sad to be back home

Fantastic site with easy access to a lovely sandy beach and friendly, helpful staff.

Our pitch with electrical hookup was well located, being near to the well cleaned wash blocks and also the beach, it was in a great position.

The site managed the coronavirus situation well with hand sanitsers everywhere (except by the door to the pool?) and appropriate social distancing notices.

We hired bikes from the local shop, which were a great way to get to and from the centre of Benodet and also to Sainte-Marine, a charming village with great restaurants across the estuary.

Our only disappointment was the 3/4G signal which was indifferent to say the least and from where we were located, the paid for Wi-fi wasn’t much better.

Excellent Site, the location is amazing right on the Tidal Estuary, forever changing landscape with tides, we hardly went off site as took paddleboard with us,

Great Cycle route beside sea After turning left and left again out of Site into Bénodet, Lovely beach.

Well stocked shop and takeaway on Site. Or there is Carrefour Supermaket in town we used to cycle to,

We had a near beach pitch which had a view of sea and well worth it just a few steps away from the beach, beach does have stones and is a sort of gravel, but it’s so picturesque, we took wet shoes, so wasn’t a problem.

Showers were always warm and accessible and toilet blocks too, with toilet seats and loo roll!

We had great weather but site has indoor pool too, our kids are 12 & 14 and loved it.

We would def go back!

Spent two weeks here in July and August 2018; two adults and two primary school aged children. We all really enjoyed it. The standard pitch (slightly towards the top end of the site, nearer the road than the beach) was big enough without being massive, with close and easy access to water and electricity and a good amount of shade. The washrooms were good, with local radio piped in (but not too loudly) which I thought was a nice touch. All the facilities were clean. I am usually a target for the local insect population, but only had one bite in the whole fortnight - result!

The play area was amongst the best I've seen; large and sensibly away from the main camping areas to reduce noise, but still only a couple of minutes walk away. It had a small zip line and some netted areas to play football in - nice pieces of kit. The pool complex is lovely and warm enough, the children (and wife) loved the slides. It's a really nice pool with nice surroundings.

The site has a kids' club which, unlike the other five French sites we've stayed at, does not require you to stay and supervise your children. It was easy to organise at the Bureau d'Activites and the staff in that office were really helpful. So we took a morning to ourselves which was a nice relaxing touch to the holiday. We were a bit hesitant about the evening entertainment but it was nicely judged, aimed mainly at kids of course but striking a good balance across the age groups and without leaving adults feeling bored. We always enjoyed the evenings spent there, and never thought that it was too loud or too late at our pitch.

A few niggles: I quite liked the bar but sometimes the service was woefully slow. Take 10 minutes to make a few cocktails before serving someone who, oh, wants cocktails again, and then after that, um, some more cocktails, and then WHY does it take 30 minutes to get a beer?! More bar staff needed! Plus neither the takeaway or the ice cream stall could tell us if their food contained or came into contact with peanuts - not great when a child has a peanut allergy!

I didn't think that the Letty beach adjacent to the site was quite as idyllic as it looked on the website - the sand was coarse and the currents were strong for young children. So we went to the other side of the spit on Plage de Kerler which we preferred. Benodet's town beach was also nice.

Benodet is a nice town with a smaller Carrefour supermarket, but we went a few miles up the road to a large Casino on the outskirts of Concarneau.

Don't let those little niggles put you off though - they were tiny in comparison to the enjoyment we had here.

The holiday went really quickly - always a good sign! I would definitely recommend it and would consider going again; the only thing that might stop me is Brittany's weather compared to regions further south. This year it was superb, but as part of an exceptional European heatwave. However, you can tell that the owners have put a lot of thought, as well as investment, into their campsite - they can be very proud of it!

We arrived at this site without having booked, having rejected our first choice. We chose a larger comfort pitch, but I think another time the standard pitch would be more than adequate. We were given a number of pitches to choose from and were able to find one with just the right amount of shade (it was very hot weather while we were there). It was very quiet at the end of June, although we noticed that the sea view areas were much busier and mostly full, we were pleased that we were in a quieter area.

The nearby toilet block was dated, but always spotless and loo roll was provided within the cubicles. There were individual cubicles for washbasins and the showers were well designed, with a shelf and hooks and controllable temperature. Plenty of partially covered sinks for washing up and laundry.

The pool area was great, although we had to hunt the shade a bit, and after 1st July an aqua aerobics class started which was excellent. I imagine the pool would be very crowded if the site was full.

The shop was great with fresh croissants and baguettes and you didn't have to order. The nearby Carrefour was open on Sunday mornings too!

We were there for the world cup and enjoyed watching it in the bar, which was a good size, although if you weren't a football fan you would have struggled to find a quiet spot. The takeaway was running, but not with a full menu as it was out of season. Our main disappointment was the lack of a restaurant - you could eat the takeaway in the bar but you had to ask for cutlery and plates so it was all a bit of a palaver.

There was free wifi in the bar area (the bar wasn't open at lunchtime but you could sit on the terrace for wifi access) although we struggled with connection at first but once we had got it sorted it wasn't too bad, although we were unable to book our return ferry online, I ended up having to phone.

If I'd had small children, I would have worried about the currents on the beach, which were very strong, and the play area was in a ridiculous place miles away at the entrance - we never saw anyone using it at all and I'm not surprised.

We would have liked to hire kayaks but were too worried about being on the sea in so much sun, but it's a great facility to have.

Benodet is a lovely little town, we have visited it before, although there are not as many restaurants as you might think and a superb seafood restaurant that we used to go to has disappeared sadly. We did have a good lunch at a creperie though with very friendly service and good food.

We would definitely return to this site - it was excellent.

After a 6 hour drive from Cherbourg we arrived at Le Letty after a disastrous journey and a stopover site hiccup, a day early. As the site was full, reception helped us out by allowing us to stay in the late arrivals car park and use the on site facilities for free. Next morning our pitch was vacant and we were able to get on at 9am.

We pitched in Les Sternes, with a spectacular view of the beach and close to amenities. We did have a bit of trouble getting onto the pitch due to the hedges, but our Dutch neighbours helped us push on.

Our nearest amenities block was a little dated, but actually perfect. Lots of the other campers were drawn to the more modern block in the opposite direction, so left the less attractive block quieter. Showers were powerful and hot and I never once waited considering the amount of people camping. It was also pretty clean and you regularly saw staff cleaning. We took our French toilet bag, containing toilet paper and hand gel as it was very French with the toilet roll outside and no soap. They seem to be working on that though as other blocks did have that.

The kids loved the pool, which we used daily. The indoor pool was ideal for the cooler days. You couldn't always get a sunbed, but that was mainly due to greedy families hogging loads of beds that they weren't all using.

The beach was as described by other reviewers - course sand, like tiny shingle. Beach shoes are a must! There is a permanent current, but once the tide goes out, the beach is perfect for rock pooling. Crabs galore so don't forget nets. The water is crystal clear and full of fish and interesting things.

We took our bikes with us and hardly used our car. Benodet is a quick bike ride from the site entrance and Carrefour a little further. We rode there most days to buy our food.

Super you and Lidl can be found a few miles away by car in the Quimper direction and LeClerc Hypermarket in Fousenant, the next little town. There's also Decathlon at Quimper or Concarneau if you want to buy beach stuff or a Paddleboard if you feel left out.

The site is busy and a little noisy until after 11pm, but we went with the flow and let the kids stay up late and sleep in. Maybe ear plugs would be helpful if you are a light sleeper.

Although we paid more for staying at Le Letty than we would have liked, we saved money by having so much to do on site, rather than going out to find entertainment. There are lots of English families on site and we made some lovely Dutch friends.

The playpark is a little tired and right at the top of the park, so not very child friendly. They could do with a more Central park, so the kids can make friends.

We enjoyed trips out to Quimper and its beautiful cobbled streets and Concarneau, but Concarneau was really busy due to the Blue Nets Festival. The walled old town was really picturesque and we found free parking at the station. We also cycled around Benodet and it's marina, following a very nice cycle track.

The on site shop had lots of food choice and beach stuff if you'd forgotten anything, but as expected a little pricey. Snack bar was also reasonable and good portions.

We stayed the last 2 weeks in August and although it was heaving when we arrived the site emptied towards the end of our visit and we would probably visit as late as possible next year.

We definitely be back.

Well done Du Letty we had an amazing stay last week.

Perfect location and amenities were great.

Only let down was the noise, I thought we all stood by the 'Campers code', but clearly not. Kids were running around the site screaming and shouting ! Where we're the parents? Probably the noisy ones up drinking till all hours.

Please campers don't let these sites down and show a bit of compassion to others.

One word sums this place up 'amazing'

Just had 11 nights at Camping du Letty and what an amazing time we had

We arrived, to find our pitch still occupied (the people on the pitch had forgotten they needed to leave due to having such a fab time). Straight away the receptionist found what pitches would be available throughout the duration of our stay and we got upgraded to a comfort/large pitch.

The shower block was separate the toilet block on our area of the site, in others its together. We never had to queue, always clean, tidy and plenty of hot water.

The swimming pools were amazing, they were just like what you can see on the pictures. All very clean and tidy and whilst we were there plenty of sunbeds. No shoes, food or drink was allowed on poolside which definitely helped. My kids loved the pools especially the indoor one with the lazy river and the slides outside.

Short walk from our pitch was the beach 'Du Letty' and that was fantastic we hired kayaks and stand up paddle boats plus used our dinghy, went snorkelling and crabbing. Only thing got to be wary of is they tide, a few people we helped to bring back a shore.

Onsite they had a supermarket which stocked all you basic requirements plus most importantly the daily supply of fresh baguettes and croissants. For a bigger shop we went to the local supermarket in town. We used the takeaway a few times which was good food with good service. The bar had entertainment which we didn't use but didn't go on too late so noise wasn't a problem. It is worth noting that the last week of their season its low season as all the French have gone back so none of the entertainment was on and the bar had reduced hours but we actually liked it.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this site was and we'd definitely be going back again.

Having just returned from two weeks in Du Letty with the family I felt compelled to write my first review.

Firstly, I feel this camping site is simply Magnifique!

I realise this trip was my first time in France but Du Letty exceeded my expectations in almost every way.

Pitch

We had a standard size pitch (approx. 80 sqm) on a very gentle slope for our Bear Lake 6, front extension and car. It was ample to contain this large tent with enough space out front for dining in the open. There was also good space for car access in between the parallel rows of campers. I was not worried about driving over guy lines or solar lights. There are larger pitches but I was way too late as they get booked up for next season even before the current one finishes`.

A fresh water supply and waste water point is available and placed in a gap in the hedgerow. It’s shared between your immediate neighbour and two pitches in the adjacent plot over the hedgerow.

A 10 amp three pin electrical supply is also available at each pitch. We didn’t need a two pin adapter and the polarity was correct.

Washing/cleaning facilities

A welcome change for returning campers will be the fact that you no longer have to pay for the hot showers. All the facilities are cleaned regularly by site staff and are in a reasonable state of repair. A bit of updating wouldn’t go amiss but they are always functional considering how many people use them per year. Remember the toilets are unisex and take toilet paper off the roll before you go in! It’s worth taking a small roll with you in case the dispensers on the wall are empty. Take a small bottle of hand wash too as some toilets have no soap or even a sink to wash your hands. Parts of the shower block are locked at 11pm but the toilets remain open 24/7.

Utilities and shops

Several laundrettes are located around the site. The cost of washing and drying a 10kg load is approx €7. No money is placed in the washer or dryer itself. There is a machine on the wall where you select your chosen machine by number, pay the required amount and validate. For the dryers just repeat the process to reach your desired drying time. Quite a few people thought you had to return every ten minutes to feed the machine more money.

The company LCBS now has a presence on the site in the form of a little chalet just down from reception. Here you can hire appliances such as refrigerators and microwaves. We hired the fridge for two weeks at a cost of €75 with a refundable deposit of €50. It was delivered and collected to and from our pitch at a pre-agreed day and time. It was incredibly useful to have and for just over €5 per day I thought it was a bargain.

The local on-site shop is as you would expect a bit expensive and carries a limited range of goods. Fresh bread and pastries are available every morning and fruit/veg gets replaced every day.

Information provision

The staff in reception and the tourist information centre were always welcoming and spoke several languages. They were knowledgeable regarding the local area and any events happening during our stay. They pointed out a few places we should visit which turned out to be brilliant. Pop in there on your first day and grab a couple maps of the Finistère region and explore.

On-site entertainment and food

The main bar is large and well presented with a selection of entertainment over the week. It ranges from cringe worthy karaoke to magic shows and mini discos. The entertainment is more geared toward children which is great as their attention is diverted for an hour or two giving you a chance to relax for a bit. Prices are ok, plenty of staff and the cocktails are nice. The large outside terrace is lovely in the evenings and the outside pool has underwater lighting to add to the ambience.

The food takeaway produces nice food and is useful when you can’t be bothered to cook. It primarily makes pizza but other items such as frites and quiches can be bought. All food bought can be eaten in the main bar or terrace without any problems. It does shut earlier than you think (2130 if I remember correctly) so you will be disappointed if you leave the bar when closing expecting takeaway to be open.

Kids entertainment

There is a kids club that is heavily subscribed so if you want to use this facility get in there early. They run activities that are weather dependent and our children found them really entertaining when the adults wanted a bit of downtime 

There is a large swing/slide park for the kids to use during the day but we found it got overrun by the larger children/teenagers the later it got. Some smaller children may find it intimidating so supervision may be needed here.

Tennis courts and outside table tennis bats are also available for hire at a small cost if that floats your boat. There is a small games room with a few arcade machines, air hockey and an old pool table. It’s a bit tired but we didn’t use this facility.

Swimming pools and other facilities

The main outdoor pool is large, clean and interesting. There is a shallow ankle deep area for the very young children with slides, water cannons and water buckets. A larger river slide runs from the same place a four lane short slide which has constant lifeguard supervision at the exit point. The main open area has a few loops, bridges and waterfalls and is well bordered with trees and decoration. Sun loungers are available but as ever get taken up very early when the weather is good. Get in there quick if you want to catch the rays in comfort. The lifeguards are patrolling constantly and can be a touch over zealous potentially spoiling the fun of older kids. Its all in the name of safety I suppose so can’t complain. You cannot take any food or drink poolside or when on the loungers as they will ask you to leave the water park if you want to consume the item. To all the other blokes there, usual French rules apply; pack your banana hammock as shorts are prohibited in the water.

Immediately adjacent to the outside pool is a decent size indoor pool. The water temperature is a few degrees warmer so feels like a warm bath after being in the outside pool for a bit. Going the other way can come as a shock though!

This contains another shallow area for the toddlers and water jets etc…It is also nicely presented and a pleasure to use.

There are seats available and this building is where you find the exit for the post swim showers and changing area. This is very small and could do with expanding as every parent showers their child here to save doing it again back at the main shower blocks.

All in all I was very impressed with the swimming facilities on offer and used them almost every day.

While a sauna, massage and other relaxation facilities were available, with young children we had no opportunity to use them so I cannot offer any comment on these parts of the site.

External to site

If you hire a fridge get yourself to the local supermarket. Obviously you will have a much wider range and the prices are better. It is on the outskirts of Benodet (Carrefour) and easy to get to.

The beach at Du Letty is made up of quite coarse sand but at slack tide offers brilliant rock pooling and crabbing for the kids. The sand is better on the other side of the water inlet but be aware the current is very fast and the water level rises faster than you think. If you go to the spit of sand over the water ensure you have a way back before the tide comes in!

Benodet itself is small but has a fantastic beach, creperies and ice-cream stands. There are a few nice restaurants on the boardwalk that are worth a visit for good food and a pretty view. Take a walk further down to reach the marina/port area for more seafood restaurants, land train departure point and the excursions up the river Odet.

Other places worth a visit are Concarneau, a beautiful walled fortification containing little shops, restaurants, live entertainment and a small museum. Quimper which is the regional capital. Bigger and better for the shopping side of things. Locronan is a little village and is gorgeous, well worth the time.

If you want to blow out the cobwebs and don’t mind travelling get to Pointe Du Raz. It’s the northern peninsula for the Bay of Biscay and mixes stunning scenery with lively weather conditions. There are amazing beaches all the way along the coast that we just stopped off at and ran in the surf for a bit. Completely off the cuff and great fun.

Conclusion

I hope this review doesn’t come over too much as an analysis of Du Letty. I have tried to combine what we experienced with practical information for potential visitors. I can safely say that we will be returning to Du Letty as we have many more places we would like to explore in the region. There was plenty to do whatever the Brittany weather threw at us and a great time was had by all.
