Just had a fortnight here with my wife, 2 kids aged 10 and 6, and my in-laws aged 70+. We all had a fantastic holiday.

Staff - very accommodating and helpful on arrival and throughout the holiday.

Pitches- many are quite small if you have a large tent or caravan. My 7m caravan and awning, with towing veh to the side, filled it completely. But nice none-the-less.

Showers/Toilets- Loads and loads of them, always clean and plenty of hot water. (I say always clean, you can't account for lazy individuals who don't clean after them, but that's not the sites fault and they were cleaned regularly. )

Bar - Quiet. Beer was expensive at nearly 5 euros a pint, but friendly staff.

Takeaway - very nice, and pizzas superb.

Play-park. Kids and Nan loved it, I guess you are never too old for fun.

Entertainment - we didn't go to the club, so can't comment.

Pool - absolutely fantastic. Nicely heated, superb. Shame the slides don't open till 2. 30 though. Keep an eye on your kids, they are supervised, but not sufficiently. Aqua aerobics each morning at 10. Wife, daughter and mother-in-law went and enjoyed it, not too tiring apparently, but I gave it a miss.

Beach - lovely but owch- wear beach shoes. Spent a few hours pulling up huge moules from the estuary and had a free meal out of them- delicious. Hundreds of crabs in there for the kids to catch, good fun in a dinghy and there is a `diving platform when the tide is in. A very lovely setting for pool/beachside holidays.

Benodet town - pretty quiet, a few restaurants, but nice. Whilst we were there, we caught the annual firework display to celebrate the immaculate conception, it's the second biggest display in Europe and was out of this world-worth timing a visit just to see it next year, and it was free.

Supermarket - Only a Carrefore, and without any competition, not that good. They kept running out of basics like milk. Good selection of wine though.

We were lucky with the weather too-winner.

Best holiday we have had.

Definitely one to return to. I will miss that pool.

Had my eye on this site for years and finally got my chance to stay here. Had to get divorced to do it but it was worth it. Officially my favourite camp site now. I did make a reservation but it was not necessary in the last week of August. Our pitch was private and yet very close to the facilities, the new swimming pool (excellent and budgie smugglers not enforced despite the signage) and only 50m from the beach. The facilities are ample - never had to queue for anything - and they are very well maintained. Don't forget to grab some loo paper from the dispenser before entering a cubicle.

Yes the beach is sharp sand (not shingle as some other reviewers have stated) but it is still very pleasant. Lots to do around. Thinking of a boat trip to the Archipel des Glénan? Don't. Nothing there and very exposed if it rains.

Loved my time at this site and will take kids next time :-) There will be a next time.

Just returned from a fabulous break at du Letty.

As previously stated by many, this is a great site. Beautiful location and a good mix of nationalities too.

Pitch

When we arrived we were taken to our pitch, have to say initially concerned as it wasn't very big. No offer of a different pitch. It was on the small side. Location was to the rear of the site and was in a nice quiet spot apart from the road behind. We live on a busy main road so this didn't bother us in the slightest. Pitch was no problem with pegs no rocks at all. In the end it was a good spot as we got talking to all the other people staying within our field, and they made our holiday. Yes we were there during the electrical outage. The staff did deal with it as best they could and there were people dealing with the problem as quickly as possible, we were given free ice blocks until service was resumed. Our part of the site was the last to be switched on and we were out for 2 and a half days. However on checking out we clarified re the problems and were given a 50% reduction for the 2 and a half days.

Shower Block/Toilets etc.

We were also nicely positioned for the shower block of which there are three main blocks on the site. Ours had main hot showers (pay), cold showers (free) for those brave enough, launderette (7 euros wash 50c 4 mins dry), dog wash, lots of toilets and lots of private cubicles with sinks in. They also have a separate room with 4 sinks in for washing your hair in and a hairdryer in this room and a hairdryer in the main toilet block.

Swimming Pool/Beach

Swimming is great for kids both the outdoor and indoor. There was however a lack of patrolling by the so called lifeguards. My husband and I both had to speak with french teenagers in the indoor pool who were misbehaving. This needs to be addressed. As previous posts beach is stony, proper beach shoes better to keep all shale out. Kids loved catching all the crabs and then putting them back!In regards to the pool some of the 'regulars' are not happy about the pool as it has made the site now very busy and in one person's words 'spoilt their little paradise', I don't think however the owners are complaining!

Takeaway/Shopping

We ate from the takeaway the first night and has pizzas, it did however seem quite expensive. There is a Carrefour in Benodet however we preferred the bigger Hypermarche Geant about a 10 mins drive away.

Surrounding Area

Lots of places to visit, Benodet lovely harbour and walk. Summer concerts by the harbour too. We visited Quimper which is well worth a visit and Concarneau where we had freshly caught sardines and mussels.

This is definitely a site worth visiting and we would stay again, however we do like trying different places.

Visted Camping Du Letty in mid August after reading the reviews on here, I thought the site was good but had room for improvement.

Pro's.

Excellent service from the reception

Beach access

Surrounding area

Never waited for toilet blocks

Baby washing area excellent

Shop ok but a little expensive

Rock pools on beach

Pool complex, but not enough beds.

Con's

Toilet blocks not open for showers until 8am

No hot water for dish washing

Beach not fine sand

While toilet blocks were cleaned almost constantly they were still smelly and grubby.

Pitches not marked out well

Loud at night (football chants at 4am)

The site was very well run and had loads to do in the area, we would return but not in a hurry.

Just returned from a fantastic break in France, the 1st time doing this type of holiday and it was a huge success.

We travelled down to Benodet over the course of 3 nights, slightly excessive, but wanted to see sights along the way, we reduced this to one stop over on the way home!

On our arrival at Du Letty we were given a map and various pitches to choose from, it was a bit of a saga, but, we eventually picked a pitch, not one originally offered, but were allowed to stay on it.

The toilet blocks near reception and swimming complex are probably the most used and consequently this is obvious in the slight urine smell! (O and take your own paper) although they were cleaned, twice a day I believe, if not more. Further round the campsite the alternative shower blocks were spotless. The showers needed to be activated with a token that lasted for a good 10 mins.

The Swimming pool complex is fantastic, a real jewel in the Du Letty crown. My children 10 & 5 both loved it, at 2. 30pm when the slides open all hell breaks loose but this soon subsides when the novelty wears off and peace ensues again! 10. 00am sharp aqua gym starts - if you are camping close by this is your wake up call as the music booms! It's finished by 11. 00am so it really isn't an issue.

The kids club wasn't used by my 5yr old daughter so I can't comment on this but my son joined the activity's programme on numerous occasions - snooker, tennis and archery competitions amongst the many things on offer on the twice a day programme.

The take-out shop sold pizzas and moules & frites, amongst other deli type bits, which we purchased a couple of times. Delicious.

Evening entertainment we never really sampled, preferring to sit and chill-out around our pitch with a glass of wine and cheese & biscuits we'd purchased from the on-site shop. We did venture into the bar which was quite nondescript. Lots of people took their take-out food in there to eat! The Admiral club house we popped our heads into one evening and it looked nice enough but can't really comment on that either.

The beach, as other reviews have stated is more shingle than sand and beach shoes or crocs are a good idea to take with you, on saying that we spent many an hour sunbathing, the kids building sandcastles, and crabbing in the rocks etc. When the tide is low you can cross to the 'island' which is great fun then watch as people get caught out by leaving it too late to come back when the tide turns!

All in all a very enjoyable holiday and yes we are planning to return next year, we will almost certainly look into a ferry as the driving back was a bit tedious and when you've had your hols you just want to get home.

We were very lucky with the weather, just one cloudy day, the rest were gorgeous, but it can be very unpredictable and I was told they had had days of rain prior to our arrival so not sure how glowing my review would have been if this had been the case with our holiday!

I was very impressed with Du Letty and camping in England won't be the same!

We (family of four - two adults and two four year old children) have just arrived back from a 6 day holiday at Camping Du Letty.

Travel - we did the Euro Tunnel route staying at a Formule1 budget hotel near Caen on both the outbound and return journey. I do a lot of driving with my job, so the distance didn't really bother me whereas I can envisage it not being to everyone's taste. Formule1 hotels are basic as you'd expect for £30/night but clean. On the return journey we paid for 2 rooms and split it 1adult+1child to each room as we found having 4 in one room on the journey to Benodet was a bit too much. The F1 hotel near Caen is just one junction from a retail park so finding a place for a meal was easy.

Camping Du Letty

We checked in on Sunday 7th August, mid way through a power outage. In view of the difficulties, staff coped well. There was a problem with our pitch not having been fully vacated by the previous tenant but this was quickly sorted and we were shown the pitch. We weren't shown a selection of pitches (as other reviewers were) and I assume this is due to the power outage and the focus of activity being elsewhere. The pitch we were shown as it happened was ideal - we requested one without any dogs - and that's what we got. We managed to erect our tent just in time before it started raining.

A note on the power outage: I'm sure some reviewers will highlight this event as having destroyed their holiday and scarred them for life. The reality is that it only affected those with caravans or tents that needed power. Power was restored to the main campsite area/pool on the Sunday night (a miracle that they could get a sparky to do anything on a Sunday to be honest) and to the rest of the campsite by Monday/Tuesday. Throughout all this the staff at Letty were helpful and handled the pressure (resulting from a problem beyond their control) extremely well. I also believe part refunds were given to those affected by the outage.

Pitches

Large - we had room for a car, 6 berth tent and gazebo+spare room so nothing to worry about in that respect.

Toilets/Showers/Dish washing areas

There are a number of toilet/shower blocks on site and all are kept to a high standard of cleanliness and cleaned daily. As with all campsites, the level of cleanliness will vary according to the number and type(!) of people using the facilities. Comparing the facilities at Letty with campsites in the UK, I would say they are as good if not better. For hot showers you'll need to get a token from reception (60c)

Shop/Bar/Takeaway

Shop opens daily at 8am and there is usually a queue for the freshly baked baguettes and croissants. The shop sells everything you need really and a lot of stuff you don't need but which appeals to a 4 year old prone to tantrums when they don't get their own way. The bar is just that - a bar. It does what it says on the tin but could be a lot more if it was developed to offer a sit down meal with waiter service. The on site takeway/deli was ok. We used it twice and the food was good but nothing special. A lot of people took their food into the bar to eat.

Swimming Pool/Waterpark (larger pool, kids area, 2 slides)

Not having visited before, it's difficult to comment directly on the impact this has had on the camp site. Others we spoke to said the profile of visitor this year has changed to be more 'family orientated' which is what you'd expect I suppose. One of our four year olds loved the pool area whilst the other was happy enough to sunbathe! (a four year old - I know!) The pool area and slides are supervised but not to the extent of your local baths in the UK where you think you're at a Juventus football match the number of times a whistle blows. Unless your children are proficient swimmers or old enough to be independent, best keep them within eyesight. The layout of the waterpark is excellent with a dedicated area for toddlers/babies both inside and out. The curse of the towel covered unoccupied sun lounger strikes at Letty also. Easy solution - give it 15 minutes, if nobody returns, carefully fold the towel and put to one side. If the occupant does return, politely give up the sun lounger for their use explaining it was a shame to waste a vacant sun lounger on such a nice sunny day. If they hit you, then I won't be held responsible - but if we all do this, eventually the message will get through (I live in hope)

Beach - we went once to the beach - it was pleasant although the sand was quite coarse and difficult to walk on barefoot in places. There are other beaches within a short walk/drive which have finer sand if that bothers you.

Kids club - must be booked in advance as demand during peak seasons is bound to be high. Our Children went on two days for a four hour stint and a two hour stint. They thoroughly enjoyed it (as did we!). One of our children has additional learning/supervisory needs (he's deaf and wears a cochlear implant) and the staff running the club did a marvellous job.

Laundrette - there are two (I think) on site. Very useful for those toddler accidents that shouldn't happen but do.

Park

Great to get the kids tired to ensure a quiet night!

Out and about

Plenty to do and see. We ventured out to Benodet, found some really nice restaurants - excellent seafood and also on the beach there was a children's activity area which for 9Euro kept the kids occupied on trampolines and bouncy castles. Having endured childhood holidays to Brittany visiting celtic crosses, churches and standing stones - I wasn't going to subject my kids to this, at least not yet - but yes, plenty to do and see if you're after a bit of culture.

Would we go back?

Yes we would. However, things we would consider for future visits - crossing to St. Malo/Roscoff to reduce wasted 'travel' days. Glamping - bit pricey for us but the pre-erected tents did look very nice and were probably more waterproof than ours! Extended stay to include Letty as part of a larger holiday - the problem with this part of France is that there is always a risk of inclement weather during the summer. Of the 6 nights we stayed it rained/drizzled on 3 of them. For next year we are considering travelling further South to guarantee the weather (as far as one can) then driving back up North staying at Letty for a few nights on the way back. However, if future forecasts of barbecue summers become a reality then we'd gladly spend the whole time at Letty.

We are Just back from Camping du letty - which incidentally is our first time camping in France. We are a family of 4, our boys are 5 & 12.

We did the Plymouth to Roscoff crossing which was great having children as du Letty is only 1hr 30 from the port. The check in was very quick, and the lady serving us gave us a choice of 3 or 4 pitches to choose from, after a walk around we did spot one we liked which was not on the list we were given nevertheless they were happy for us the take that one. Pitches where we were held 6 tents with plenty of room, we have a large tent, wind break and the car parked with still plenty of room. At the point of checking in you do have to pay a deposit for the number display board (2 euro) and also for the wrist bands you have to wear when going in to the pool (10 euro each), we had to have three of these – the youngest child didn’t have to have one and you get the money back when you go to pay (the day before you depart). Incidentally, they did say next year they are taking deposits rather than the way they did it this year. At this point you also get given a recycle bag for your rubbish and the bins are located at the top of the site. The little bins by the wash sink unit are for food only. Whilst we were setting up the chap on his bike came to sort the electricity, so all done very quickly.

Toilets & Washing up

The toilets where we were weren’t very clean in my opinion, there was always a smell. The other toilets I tried were better. As it is my first time in France I hadn’t realised toilets are unisex, this is just my view and I appreciate Europeans’ may do things different – but I felt a bit uncomfortable sharing – men’s toilet habits are different to us ladies and I got to the stage where I would take my flash wipes to each trip so I could put the seat down and wipe around! I some of the toilets blocks do not have sinks, so to wash your hands often meant going in to another room. The hot showers are 60 cents and I found the ones in the middle of the campsite nicer than those by reception. The washing up area was always clean, I had no problem with them, other than the water is very hot!

Waterpark

The waterpark is very nice, they have clearly spent a lot of money on it, the sun beds are comfy – shame some people left a towel on them and you didn’t see them for the rest of the day!. We didn’t have the best weather when we were there and when the sun isn’t out the water is very cold, the in door pool was ok, busy when the weather isn’t good everyone is in making it very busy, they also open the doors to it which makes you cold if just sitting at the side watching the kids. The changing facility is only small so we found ourselves going back to the tent in our swimming stuff and the kids were very cold. You do have to leave shoes outside in little slots, both for the indoor and outdoor pool. Oh and there is morning water aerobics – but during this they turn off the pumps so the little ones can’t even use there section of the water, I thought that was bit of a shame.

There is a little shop on site which does the basics, fresh bread and English news paper (one day behind the uk), and a takeaway – pizza is nice!. There is a bar with a games room – it is expensive and a bit lifeless to be honest, it did disappoint me a bit as I had hoped it would be a bit of a meeting area etc.

There is an entertainment area, at the top of the site – it doesn’t open or start til 9pm which is a bit late for us with the little one, though one night we did poke our head in at about 9. 10 and it was empty. There are two tennis courts and a little park, we didn’t play tennis but I assume you have to pay a deposit.

The beach is lovely and we found ourselves there most days, taking a picnic, collecting shells and digging! Our weather wasn’t good and we had a couple of really rainy days whilst we were there and on those days there was little to do, we thought we would try the kids clubs but when we got there (in advance of 10am) we were told they were full and we should have booked (cant predict the weather though). When the weather is great, it is good but not so good otherwise. I have to admit after the second day of rain and a scary storm I did want to come home, but changed my mind when the sun came out a couple of days later!

So, what can be said that hasn't already. We stayed at Du Letty from end of July to mid August 2011. We usually do Cornwall a few times a year and stay in top sites like Pentewan Sands. This was our first 'tent' camp outside of the UK so was a good test. We did the Plymouth - Roscoff crossing overnight with a cabin which all worked out great. It meant we could travel down from the North in the day, get a good sleep, and get to Du Letty early. The site is within walking distance of Benodet which is small but nice. We were given a good pitch but saw a better one, and the swap was no problem. The new pool area is really nice but has turned what was probably a quietish site into what is now a lively family (read kids) site, which my kids (2x 14yr old girls) enjoyed. Ok, so it chucked it down for about 30% of the time and was overcast and/or drizzly for another 30% of the time but that's not the camps fault is it. The staff were nice, the facilities and cleanliness were generally good compared to the UK's best and I love the foreign idea of all the enclosures for between 4 and 10 pitches of so. However, there is a downside to all these hedges that go up to the camp roads (and this may apply to most continental sites) that nobody seems to comment on. There are no 'bumps' or speed controllers or sleeping policeman, on the camp roads. Kids of all ages just run or cycle around the site all day and fly out from behind pitch bushes and across the roads. If the timing is bad then you need to be doing less than 3mph not to hit one, and most people drive around the site at between maybe 5 and 15 mph. In my opinion, it is only a matter of time. Regular, reasonably severe speed bumps will do the trick. Having now typed this I have decided to write to them about it.

On another note, as a newcomer to a foreign site, all the windbreaks stayed in the roofbox because not only was it not windy enough or exposed, but the whole continental open and friendly approach to communication with passers by would make the Brits seem positively antisocial or even rude hiding behind the windbreaks around every inch of their pitch. The downside for us was the evening entertainment which was either non existent or just rubbish. There was one night (out of 15) with a good band. It was held in a building at the entrance to the campsite and is for all people and not just campsite users. It isn't owned by the campsite. It also served alcohol to kids, and stayed open late. This means that in the night we sometimes got drunken kids or teens shouting and running around until the 'security' boys tried to get rid of them. We were near the centre of the site so it may have been better (quieter) near the far corners.

The big positive side for us is that we were next to a really lovely German family with 3 great little girls, and who I know we will stay friends with, and that we will probably go and see next year. That makes it all worthwhile.

So, would we go again? Well, if we were the staying kind, then yes. It is a nice campsite. However, we have got so much more of Europe to see and experience.

Just back from a 'Tour de France' and thought we would stay here for a couple of days after the reviews. Sadly, we only stayed for just over two hours.

We arrived around 3pm (on the wettest day in history). I enquired at reception explaining that I had been in touch the week before by e-mail and looked at staying for a couple of days, the girl on reception insisted on giving me a quote. However, the costs had somewhat increased from my original email quote from 31 Euros - 42 Euros, per night plus we would need tokens for a shower (60 cents for 6 mins). So I decided to stay for two days and we parked up, and waited for the chap ( who was just coming) to appear to 'hook us up' for power. We waited forty minutes and went for a walk. The site holds circa 420 units, and there are only 12 showers, that weren't the cleanest. We went to the pool which is not finished and noted that you needed to change into your trunks etc, prior to going down as the changing rooms were not finished yet. We walked back to the van and we were hooked up, but no power. I returned to reception and were told someone would come up straight away. Alas, after half an hour the 'weeman' still didn't appear, so we left. A site that has potential but at 42 Euros a night, thanks but no thanks. We found a 'Camping Municipal' site 5 miles away, 10 Euros, immaculate and the couple running it could not do enough !

We stayed here for 1 week in August, we were able to choose our own pitch which was great and there were plenty of free pitches to choose from, although the ones near the beach seemed to be full. There were plenty of facilities dotted around the large site which were clean and tidy. The kids loved the play area, which we felt was safe and secure for them. The staff at reception were very helpful and spoke good English which was helpful as we need more practise with our French !. Overall the site was a great find and we will be returning next year and look forward to trying out the new pool which is due to be opened by then, and hopefully we will take or hire bikes as it seems to be the best way to travel around the area and site. The town of Benodet was a short 10-15 min walk away and had another lovely beach. There are several beaches to try if you are prepared to walk around the coastline and the area is beautiful.
