The campsite is very lovely and friendly people and helpful and the campsite is very very peaceful. The pitches are large and a small lovely beach with plenty of shells to collect, lovely rock pools and plenty of room for boats.
The toilets and showers are very clean, I can’t tell you much about the holiday as my dad had to go into hospital for appendix operation, the hospital in Frace was brilliant and nice and clean. The bus route was good but a bit hard to follow the first few days if you are new to the area.
Benodet lovely beach there and a lovely harbour and nice restaurants and there is an ice cream parlor, loads of choice to choose from.
The campsite is very busy now and all the beach fronts have been reserved as lots of them come back year after year and have the caravans or motorhomes in the same position, (including boats as well).

Wow, what a find! We discovered Le Letty on the web last summer and didn't think it could possibly be as good as the pictures/brochure . How wrong we were!

You can't book a pitch next to the beach but we were lucky enough to secure one and we had a fantastic 10 days on this beautiful site. Each of the beachside bays has 4-6 well spaced out pitches, surrounded by tall hedges with 3 steps down to the beach. The beach itself is actually the edge of the Odet river estuary: to get to the beach 'proper' you have to cross the water and go over the sandbank and there you will be able to see out to sea. No matter, the estuary beach is where we spent our time as the sands were clean and the water crystal clear. We did, however, have to keep an eye on the children as the tidal river is constantly ebbing or flowing and at times it was extremely deep with a very forceful flow.

It seemed that many campers brought boats of all shapes and sizes which they launched on the estuary. It was lovely to sit in the evening with a glass of wine in hand, watching their comings and goings as the sun set. When the tide's out there are lots of rockpools for the children to investigate. We had a constant supply of creatures in buckets round our tent!

The site itself is spotless. Practically whatever time of day or night you visit the loos, staff can be seen cleaning them. The showers use a token system (available from Reception) and give you plenty of hot water. We were there right at the end of the season (last few days of August into first couple of days of September), consequently the on-site shop was running down its supplies and some of the facilities were closed. Nonetheless, the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a good range of facilities including a lovely library/reading room, bar with outside terrace, ice-cream shop, takeaway food (good quality homemade pasta dishes, pizzas etc), excellent laundry facilities plus a gym which we didn't explore! You can also purchase freezer packs from Reception.

The area itself is lovely. A couple of times we cycled into Benodet where there is a good choice of restaurants and a beach playground for the children. (Cycle hire is available next to the campsite). The site is also close to many other places of interest including Quimper, Concarneau, Pont Aven and Pont l'Abbe.

We usually head to the south of France for our summer hols but we are definitely returning to le Letty this year.

We have just returned from Camping Du Letty in Brittany. We have had a lovely time. We went from Plymouth to Roscoff, which gave us a 2 hour car journey in France to the site (roads are very quiet)
When we arrived at the site the staff were very friendly and spoke very good English. They showed us to our pitch and hooked us up to electricity. My husband and I were amazed by the friendly welcome from the French holiday makers, as they pulled our caravan onto it's pitch and helped with the awning!
The campsite has excellent facilities, and is very 'child friendly'. We have a three year old and the little baby baths were brilliant as he hates showers (the baby baths are free)
We had a pitch 10 seconds walk from the beach, and it was lovely to walk back from the beach and make a fresh lunch each day, and also pop back to get things we needed.
Showers are clean and there are lots of them (need a token, best to get them all in one go for your stay from reception) Also need 2 euros on arrival for a wooden number card to hang on caravan/tent, you get money back when you leave)
Shop was well stocked, with fresh bread/salad/veg/fruit.
The beach was lovely, although sand is very rough, it's worth taking beach shoes. Lots of rock pools and great if you have a little boat.
The weather was very mixed. Some days lovely and sunny and others its rained non-stop (rain coats needed as well as sun cream)
If you need an early departure, the staff will unlock the electricity box the night before so you can take your hook-up out yourself in the morning.
We have another baby due in October, and are booking to go again next year with both our children as it was a very easy holiday to go on with a young family.
We would recommend this campsite to anyone, especially those with children or those who enjoy water sports.
We are going to learn a little more French before next year as the French people really do appreciate it if you speak a little bit of their language. We found that there was mainly a mixture of British, French and German holiday makers.

We have just spent 10 nights at Camping Du Letty and even though most of the trip was very wet, were very impressed with the campsite itself.

On arrival you are greeted by very helpful and friendly reception staff. I think you usually just pick your own pitch but a gentleman very helpfuly took us around for a quick look, advising which pitches were least wet. The site is well laid out in paddocks of 4-6 pitches (we had one to ourselves for most of our stay outside of school holidays) some of which face the beach (even though it was not that busy, all of these pitches were taken!)
The beach is on a kind of tidal lagoon, beautiful with coarse sand and lots of interest in any weather. When the tide goes out it is possible to paddle across to the spit of sand separating the lagoon/estuary from the sea. Children will absolutely love this beach - it is great for swimming and on the couple of reasonably sunny afternoons we had, we found the water remarkably warm in places. It is also brilliant for crabbing, fishing and boating.
The onsite children's play area is spacious and well-equipped, but quite a distance from most of the pitches being near the entrance to the site. The bar was deserted mostly, I suppose because it was out of season, but looked very nice.
Takeaway selling pizza, burgers, chips etc was very good and shop well stocked - a new Butcher's section opened just before we left and looked very impressive. They also sell some British newspapers and magazines.
The toilet blocks were very clean and there were lots of them on this large site. They are unisex and you have to collect your loo roll on the way in! Maybe this is the norm in campsites in France?! The hot showers operate on a token system which you can buy from reception. Baby bathing facilities are second to none - rows of waist height inset baths with removable shower heads for hairwashing and lots of baby changing tables with room for all your nappy-changing stuff. There is also a pet bath! There are good laundry facilities on site, but it is quite expensive.
The site has a lovely friendly feel and lots of visitors from all around Europe.

Benodet is a five minute car journey away and has a lovely beach and lots of nice beachfront creperies and restaurants. The Mickey Mouse Club has trampolines etc in a sectioned off area on the beach and you pay per hour for the children to go on whatever they like as many times as they like. Concarneau is an easy drive and a nice day out, especially the beautiful Ville Close, which has lots of lovely restaurants and nice walk around the ramparts. Ignore the many souvenir shops which all seem to be selling the same stripy navy sweaters and T-Shirts - unless you want one of course! We drove to Pointe Du Raz which is right on the tip of the peninsula and is supposed to be very beautiful.
Unfortunately for us the closer we got to the Pointe the thicker the fog got and the stronger the gale! It is about a 15 minute walk to the Pointe from the Visitor Centre and you can bus back if you want. Few souvenir shops/creperies. The Visitor Centre is very informative with helpful staff.

If you are arriving by ferry at St. Malo try to make time for a day here as it is really worth the effort. We spent our final three nights here before catching the Ferry to Portsmouth and really enjoyed our walk around the ramparts and through the windy streets full of restaurants and small shops. The views are breathtaking and the beaches here beautiful. We preferred the landscape in this part of Brittany to that on the South Coast.

On the whole it was a beautiful area, and Camping Du Letty comes highly recommended - just a shame about the weather as I think, in the sunshine, we would have been able to fully enjoy the site's facilities and location.

We stopped here for a week it is by far the best site we stayed on in three weeks in France. What the other reviews say is true we booked it totally on the strength of what they said. Great beach good position the loos are nipping clean with their own attendants cleaning them for every time I was in. Good shop, takeaway and the bar looked good although we did not try it. We went to a small bar two mins walk from site that did mini golf ( 2.5 euros) nice people.

The site staff were very friendly. If you are in this part of france do not bother going else where We can,t wait to go back

Camping Du Letty is probably one of the nicest sites in Brittany mainly due to its fantastic location, the pitch we had cant have been more than 30M distant from the safe beach and inlet, the campsite has 3 way hook ups for most pitches within a couple of metres, the pitches being arranged neatly in blocks of six or four separated by high hedges for privacy, and toilet blocks clean with excellent wash up facilities. There is also a take away (not recommended) and a small bar which is ok, better to travel into Benodet which is an easy walk or bike ride which is served by some excellent restaurants; I would recommend Du Letty to anyone wanting a site that is ideal and safe for children, it is quiet at night except for Saturday nights which are an exception.

We have just returned from our first and no doubt not our last holiday at Du Letty. With three children between 6 - 3 this was a perfect site. The site is directly on the beach, which comes complete with island at low tide and rock pools, the children were totally entertained and we felt that they were safe. The site itself has a usefull shop and take away as mentioned before. This being the first week of the school holidays the site must have been at it's busiest, but we never felt overcrowded and always managed to get a shower when we wanted. All facilities were very clean. Although we didn't see anyone patroling the site, there was never any problem with noise late at night. We will be back.

Just returned from our second visit to this site, having been last summer as well. What can I say about this site? The fact we returned so quickly says it all. The site is located right next to it's own beach. In fact if you're very lucky (we weren't) you can even have a pitch right on the edge of the beach and enjoy your evening drink while watching the sun go down. On arrival you're given a map of the site and sent off to choose your own pitch. Both times we chose one just a 30 second stroll from the beach. No sand in the car this holiday! Amenity blocks are scrupilously clean. Each one has it's own full time attendant, something we haven't seen anywhere else before.
There is a good shop, with it's own butcher's and baker's selling most daily requirements and the supermarket is just 5 minutes drive away.
Good takeaway, serving the usual menu plus daily specials including seafood. Highly recommended.
Very helpful and friendly staff, in fact it's hard to find anything wrong with this site. OK, there's no swimming pool but who needs one with a beach on you doorstep.
Nice area for exploring too. Visit the walled town of Concarneau, the beautiful village of Pont Aven is not to be missed and a trip to Lesconil at tea time to watch the fishing boats come in is well worth while.
We'll be back again.

 July 2004
I strongly recommend Camping Du Letty in Benodet. It is our favourite site in the whole of Europe!!! We discovered this site on our first trip to France 10 years ago. We have returned, latterly as caravanners, on 5 of the subsequent years - our 5 kids always protested if we went anywhere else!

The beautifully maintained site is large but divided up by hedges into shady bays of about 8 pitches. There are lots of trees, flowers and grassy areas. Some, smaller and very popular, pitches overlook the beach.

The site is adjacent to a small, tidal river estuary which provides a large, clean & safe beach and swimming spot at all but high tide. There are 2 swimmng platforms moored in the estuary. Many campers take boats, all sizes, which can be launched/moored free in the river. There is long sand bar opposite the camp site, across the river, and the sea is on the other side of that.

The site is quiet and peaceful with excellent facilities away from the pitches. These include a small supermarket, a food take-away, 2 bars, a gym, library, tennis courts and playground. There are several toilet blocks which are luxuriously appointed and cleaned very regularly. There are a few arranged activities. Our kids always entertained themselves - mainly on on beach and sea/river. The site is featured in the Alan Rogers guide and it has its own illustrated web site (search for du letty.)

The family that run the site are pleasant and helpful and speak/write excellent English.

Benodet is a pleasant, picturesque seaside resort at the mouth of the river Odet. It has a good beach and a selection of shops, banks and restaurants. There is a very adequate supermarche on the outskirts which has the only petrol station in town, NB closed Sunday!! There is, also a very good tourist info office in the centre of the town.

On the main seafront there is a small cinema, casino and a place that makes superb icecream. It is very Brit orientated and even has a red GB phonebox in the town. We, also, enjoyed going to the English language Family Church service which is held at the church near the harbour every Sunday morning - the service is led by visiting English holiday chaplains. There are some lovely walks along from the main beach towards the harbour and marina.

The nearest ferry port for UK is Roscoff, it is less than 2 hours pleasant drive away but it gets booked-up quite early. We have, also, travelled via St Malo, Cherbourg and Caen. The AA website free provides route plans to Du Letty from all French ports.

We booked our ferry through the Camping & Caravan Club's Carefree Travel Service (reduced price).

Site booking is not necessary as they always have room, even in high summer. We didn't book on first & several other occasions. Direct booking is cheaper than holiday companies, including Carefree Travel.

This is a selection of other local attractions/things to do that we've discovered over the years - hope they are helpful

There are the annual Benodet Feast of the Assumption Celebrations on about 15 August. There is a parade of illuminated ships and the most spectacular fireworks over Benodet Bay that I have ever seen anywhere. The evening has a very carnivally atmosphere. I recommend you pick a good viewing spot early as it gets very crowded. Good viewing places are at the town end of the coastal road that leads from the town towards Point St Gilles or on the main town beach itself. I'd advise you to walk or cycle to the see the fireworks as the roads are jampacked on that evening.

St Marine on the opposite side of the Odet estuary to the town Benodet. It can be reached by a short ferry ride or by driving over the very spectacular high level bridge over the Odet. It is very romantic and atmospheric with numerous bars, ice cream parlours and cafes set around a small harbour. If you have kids St Marine is especially good if you can a babysitter and have an evening out!!. At the far end of the village of St Marine there is a large car park and along expanse of clean sand which is usually nearly deserted, super views, an art gallery in an old fort and even a World War 2 Blockhouse.

Concarneau about an hour's drive away has the Ville Close - a medieval village with walls and fortifications on an island in the harbour. The Ville Close has lots of outdoor restaurants with family menus which will not break the bank. Our kids used to love going there for a meal as the grand finale to our holiday. It has the a festival associated with fishing industry Le Fillet Bleue and that too has a dramatic firework display.

Quimper the regional capital is a pretty town with lots of flowers and bridges over the River Odet. It has several large supermarkets and shopping centres and an interesting cathedral.

Benodet has a very good market on the main carpark - Monday and Saturday I think. It is good for fruit and veg and holiday souveneirs and has a geniune French ambience.

If you like boat trips there are numerous ones to choose from:-

(1) Up the Odet to Quimper. (Incidentally you can find your way down to the wooded wester banks of the Odet at La Vires-Court. We found a lovely picnic spot near a ruined water mill - you need a good map or advice from Tourist Info in Benodet - they are very helpful.)

(2) Les Ille Glennan a group of islands off the coast - they are quite pretty but with large empty white sandy beaches but there is not much else there and the trip is perhaps a little overated! You can do it more cheaply for Beg Mell we discovered. On the islands there is a sailing and diving centre and you can hire canoes and things. If you're feeling really adventurous you can join an excursion in hire canoes to Les Ille Glennan - the company advertises at the campsite - They come and pick you up and provide canoes, equipment and a supporting motor launch!!

(3) The glass bottomed boat is supposed to be very good but we never quite afforded that as it is rather expensive.

If you should happen to have a boat of your own of any sort take that too. The tiny estuary right adjacent to the beach at Du Letty is an ideal free mooring spot for boats. Campers have all sorts of craft from Lilos to motor launches and everything in between which they use in the river and out to sea. There is, also, a sailing school which runs courses just along the beach from the site.

There is, also, a "road train" which runs on a circular route as far as Point St Gilles, a little nearer to town than Du Letty
