Lovely, lovely site!
We spent just over a week here in August, mainly as a chill out time but also to visit Normandy sites for which it is very well placed. It's a small site, up to 25 pitches with guests in the cottages too. Beautifully sited underneath the chateau.
Choice of pitch on arrival, there is a large field with games in the middle, ideal if you have children and want to keep an eye, or more secluded places elsewhere- the top of the field has some lovely views. You can drive on/off to pitch and strike but other than that it is car free.
The loos and showers are beautifully decorated- no push button showers but you do need your own loo roll. There's no EHU on pitch but there are plenty of freezers and fridges, plus a few charging points for your phones etc.
We loved the pool and hot tub, so refreshing after a day out. There is a mix of other campers, mainly British but a fair few Dutch campers too. Our kids easily made friends to play football, or Man Hunt! We also had some great chats with our fellow campers and they gave us tips about what to see.
The service is what really makes the site- the owners work so very hard throughout the season- really personal service. You're shown around the site on arrival, can order croissants and bread each night and the Barn meals are wonderful. We had moules/frites on Thursday, roast chicken on Sunday and freshly made pizzas on Tuesday. So nice to have a break from cooking, very reasonably priced and so easy if you have little ones.
We visited far more than we were expecting to when in the area- Mont st Michel (about an hour- tip buy tickets online, even if you do so in the car on the way there to bypass a huge queue). Plenty of D-Day museums- we especially liked Grandcamp Maisy, POint d'Hoc, the Caen memorial and Arromanches. We also went up to Cherbourg (about 45 mins) and a few beaches for beach stuff!

Just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay in chateau monfreville. The owners Paul and Zoe were so friendly and welcoming! We had an e mail 2 days before we arrived to ask if we would a roast chicken and fries when we arrived! Yes please! After a 10 hour journey to get there from Liverpool, we were welcomed in the barn with all of the other campers to a delicious dinner! Just what the doctor ordered!
Apparently, it's pizza on a Tuesday and mussels on a Thursday but we didn't stay long enough to sample those! The owners will take a bakery order the night before and voila!……They are left in front of your tent for you in the morning.
The children had a dip in the natural pool and a relax in the hot tub! The toilets and shower facilities were very rustic and cute! There were pigs, horses, birds, chickens, cats and hector the dog on site too.
Nearby, we visited carentan, the d day experience and Utah beach which was all very interesting and moving.
My only regret is not staying here longer as we had a week in noirmoutier booked so we were staying here to break up our journey. Next time, we will stay longer and explore the local area some more. I cannot wait to visit again!

We arrived on a very hot August afternoon, last week of school holidays. Had a lovely welcome and tour of the site from Zoe. The chateau is gorgeous! and first impressions were of a friendly, well maintained, spacious site in lovely surroundings. Owners Zoe and Paul, were on hand to answer questions when needed.
Lots of space in the chateau's gardens for all the tents and they only take a limited number (so pre-book) - there are shady and sunny pitches although you can't pick in advance which pitch as they're not marked. The views across the animal enclosures and surrounding landscapes were lovely.
After pitching it was a wonderful to take a dip in the natural pool which was popular with the campers - it has stone sides and floor and steps leading in so no mud between my toes. The pool had and a dinghy and floats for use too. , there was also a hot tub adjacent for chilling out in. A nice touch is an outdoor shower adjacent to the pool which provided a lovely alternative to the ones indoors, and provided nice hot water to wash under.
The showers and loos are great and kept clean. There is ample fridge freezer space for food and coolblocks. Lots of washing up space too. There were fire pits for use too. There was a good little honestly shop in one of the barns for essentials (although it doesn't sell wine/beer - so stock up if you need it).
A must is the evenings they serve evening meals in the big barn (3x weekly) which is a lovely social event and reasonably priced - bring a bottle and join in!
Owners walked around the site each day to take bread and Croissant orders which were delivered by the 'bread fairy' to our tent each morning - lovely!
The chateau is located in a lovely quiet hamlet out of the way, yet a short drive (5 minute or so)in to Insigny-sur-mer which is a lovely small town with a great supermarket, and which joins a direct route to cherbourg (40 minute drive).
Whilst there we visited the a landing beach and memorial, we planned to visit Bayeaux but opted out in favour of chilling in the pool at the chateau. It was our last site of the holiday and a great place to unwind - we had such a relaxing and memorable time. Would visit again and highly recommend.

We have just returned from a week at Chateau Monfreville and 2 things were clear. We would have happily stayed for the entire summer and it is without doubt the best campsite we have ever been to. The facilities are superb with lovely showers, fridges, freezers (including a drinks fridge!) phone charging points, games room, honesty shop and the chateau and grounds are beautiful. The fact you can borrow buckets/ spades/ balls etc was great for travelling light. My children had endless hours of fun on the rope swing/ feeding the pigs and sheep and to end each day with a swim and hot tub was pure bliss. The moules/ frites and pizza nights in the barn was great fun. The only downside was given we had croissants and bread delivered to our tent by Paul every morning I now need to go on a serious diet! We love Normandy and are normally too busy to just relax at the campsite but it is such a wonderful place and my kids did not want to go out we had quite a few days just lazing around the tent. We camp 4or 5 times a year and never go back to the same place. But we are already planning for next year. Thanks so much Paul & Zoe.

My wife and I have just returned from our second visit to the Château. It was just as perfect as we remember from last year and I am not sure it's possible to improve on perfection but Paul and Zoe the owners have added even more little gems to their site. The new 'old' wood burning pizza oven makes probably the best pizza you could find, Pizza Hut take note.
The level of service is discrete but first class and of a far superior standard than any other campsite we have visited over our many years of camping. To sum up I would score the site 10/10 only because there isn't an eleven. A country campsite with all the modern facilities to make a perfect holiday.

This is one of my favourite places in the world! We're going back again this summer for the 3rd time.
It's a beautiful location, you're in a really good position to explore Normandy & there's plenty to visit in the local area, but the site is peaceful and quiet
We're always made to feel so welcome that it feels like we're going to visit old friends. All the little extras make this feel really special, we can pre-order fresh bread and pastries from the boulangerie for delivery each morning, there are fresh home laid eggs and home-made jams in the honesty shop along with all the other necessities, at the weekly moule frites night campers can sit down and eat a delicious meal together. Our children loved visiting the animals & the swimming pond is lovely (on a sunny day!).
The site is beautifully kept and all the facilities are lovely. The shower rooms in the basement of the chateau are really nicely done & kept nice and clean. There is a fridge & a microwave we could use (so useful last year for warming baby food & sterilising baby bottles!).
There are a limited number of camping pitches, which means the site never feels crowded and you're not queueing for ages for the facilities. Cars are kept to the car park and not allowed on the campsite, which makes it safer for the children running around and were not disturbed by cars coming and going.
The only negative of visiting this campsite is that it has ruined all other campsites for us. No one else ever quite measures up to the high standards we see here.

A wonderful campsite, relaxed but well-run. It has many delightful aspects, including the castle, the view, the animals, the pastries delivered to the tent, the natural swimming pond, and the hot tub. We visited at the end of August but all the facilities were still well maintained and clean. The location is good for exploring the area, close enough to main roads to make getting places easy but far enough from them to feel like you're away from it all. All the signs around the site are in English, so you don't have the full-immersion French experience if that's what you want though.

Paul and Zoe were fab, couldn't do enough, were very helpful, friendly and were the perfect hosts. Thankyou. This was our 3rd campsite in France in 2 weeks this summer and by far the best. The toilets, showers, fridge/freezer, washing-up sinks all to share with the other families were clean or always available to use. We'd travel from East to West of France and finished in Normandy. Having the cars parked off the campsite but only a few mins walk away meant the kids could run riot and only need to watch out for the tractor moving luggage to and fro, Hector the dog dustbin, a dozen ducklings and the protective mother duck and 1-2 guidelines on the tents. Choose where you want to pitch your tent, only 25 tents, all families and mostly from the UK and enjoy the honesty boxes for power, eggs, jam, water, books. Chippy Tuesday, Roast Chicken n chips on a Sunday and Moules and chips on Thursday. What more can you ask for, oh! Table tennis and table football tables. Plan to go back soon

You read the reviews and you never know whether to believe them or not. But I can honestly say that they are all spot on and some don't do it enough justice.
Our 2 weeks at probably the best site in france was not nearly long enough. Camping as it should be but with enough modernism and quirkyness to make it a truely amazing experience. From the moment you arrive it is more like you are a friend than a holidaymaker and nothing is too much trouble. The site is far enough out of big towns to make it tranquil but still close enough to visit everything the area has to offer. It must be good because we have already booked to return next year which says it all.
