If Carlsberg made campsites then this would be the one.
This is a gorgeous site in the chateau grounds with huge pitches and a lovely family feel. Paul, Zoe, Molly, Jake and Dave welcomed us into their home.
The fab facilities are already listed on their uk campsite page (fridge, freezer, swimming pond, lake to kayak in etc) but it was the personal touch that made it feel special. The site only has 25 pitches maximum and a huge effort is made to keep the intimate feel and encourage campers to mix. While we were there we had a party for Molly's birthday, took part in the Monfreville Olympics and BBQ, got hammered on moules frites night and screamed at the television in the barn with the other nationalities whilst their olympic athletes did their stuff. Everyone was friendly, the kids were safe and the drink flowed!
The site is in a tiny village but supermarkets are five minutes drive away in Insigny-sur-mer and about a fifteeen minute drive to the gorgeous Omaha beach. We also visited Bayeux, a zoo and a theme park which were fairly near.
We spent the first five days of a four week stay here and instead of being excited by the prospect of a tour of France, our three kids all cried when we left this site!
I have never ever given a campsite a 10 in my life but this one is kind of special. Thanks guys.

This is a really wonderful campsite, run very smoothly and with good humour by Paul, Zoe and various helpers including the loveable Hector.
There are great facilities with hot and spacious showers, washing-up area with drainage racks and generous-sized fridge/freezers.
It's a very friendly site and the kids ran around like loons very happily and safely.
Honesty shop sells great jams and veggies, plus all the little camping essentials you need like firewood, kindling and loo roll!
Stunning Normandy beaches, historic sites, local French markets and Bayeux all within half an hour's drive.
We'll definitely be back - thanks for a great time :)

We only booked 1 night and we now regret it. The site is in the grounds of the owners beautiful French château. The English owners have gone out of their way to create a magical campsite for people who enjoy the 'peace and quiet' of the Normandy countryside.
The 'natural' pool was brilliant and so was the hot tub. The toilets and showers were lovely and the fridge and freezer was a great idea. The camp shop sold vegetables grown on site and the 'bread fairy' delivered our fresh croissants to the tent for breakfast.
Even though it's a little way from the coast the drive back to the site is well worth it. Kayaking is available down the road and the campsite is close to Bayeaux and the D Day beaches. I can't wait to return.

After a 12 hour drive from Eastern Germany this place was a site for sore eyes. Out in the country side and quite as can be. Not too far from the beaches, maybe 10 mins. The hospitality was excellent, not just from the host but from other guest as well. All facilities on site were above expectations. Enough space in the fridge/ice box to fit a small pig and the loos/showers just as nice/clean as home. There is plenty of tree canopy around to set your tent up to keep you out of the morning drizzles. FYI the French do not open ANYTHING be for 9. 30 - 10am.

Brilliant campsite.
Location: situated in the grounds of a French Chateau. Beautiful grounds and lovely outlook across the fields. Very peaceful. Cars not allowed in the camping area, which adds to the ambience (only short walk to the camping area, and tractor available to ferry camping equipment on arrival and departure).
Camping Area: next to a pond and field with horses, chickens and ducks. Allowed to select your own camping area. No fixed pitches. Free to use fire pits and barbecues.
Facilities: Modern, clean and charmingly decorated. Separate male and female facilities. 2 x toilets and 2 x showers in each. Good washing up facilities.
Fridge/Freezer available for use. Excellent honesty shop stocking some home made jams, fire wood, marshmallows, milk, loo rolls and eggs etc.
Overall: The location was excellent, the facilities were great, but above all it was the atmosphere that was created by the setting and the owners (Paul and Zoe) which made the campsite and experience so perfect.

We had a fabulous time (thunderstorms included) at this site and would recommend it wholeheartedly, especially for families camping with young children.
The owners met us as if we were old friends and showed us around the facilities. We were offered dinner (at a reasonable price) which the owners prepared and served at long tables in their barn and which made for a very enjoyable first evening (we understand this is a once-a-week event in the summer months).
It may have been the absence of cars in the camping field, the unheated swimming-pond, or the hot-tub; or, possibly, just the fact that the owners were obviously interested in us having a good time, that made this a such a lovely place to be. It seemed to us that something about the place caused people to talk to each other more than one would normally expect.
The only criticism we had was that the showers and loos (beautifully equipped and always clean) were shared between the sexes and limited in number. We understand that this will be rectified this winter (2011-2012) and, if it is, this could well be the perfect campsite (unless you want bars, car-radios, discos and large swimming pools).

This is our 3rd visit & we've booked for next year. I have nothing negative to say! Only that I worry the more people find out about it the harder it will be to return. We even met up with the previous years campers as its that place you've just got to keep going back to. On top of all the other things mentioned there's also a covered area to eat should it be too wet outside. There's a ping pong table in with the honesty shop. There's NO cars allowed WHATSOEVER - yay! There's Moules & Frites every Thursday. This year Paul & Zoe had erected a large net and provided tennis rackets and badminton rackets which all encouraged the sites campers to come together. There's also 2 gypsy caravans for hire should you wish to glam it up a little or go the whole hog and book the cottage - but you'll struggle, it's very popular. I just love it love it love it!

Our family group of 8 (3 generations) have just returned from a 2 week stay at Le Chateau De Monfreville and I cannot praise it enough. The campsite is everything I'd hoped it would be. I was anxious about the pond as we have a very inquisitive 3 year old but it is guarded by left to grow wild thistles and he was never interested in it. Hosts Zoe & Paul went out of their way to make sure all campers are happy and are so accommodating. Roaring campfires make the whole camping experience a real pleasure. Moule Frites night on Thursday is a great way to get to know your fellow campers and the whole site just has a really friendly atmosphere. This part of Normandy is full of history along with many more things to see and do. We will definitely be back.

From the moment we arrived, we knew, we had made the right choice. The Chateau and grounds are beautifully maintained.
The showers, toilets and washing-up facilities were always clean, and due to fact that only 12 tents are permitted, always available.
Swimming past the beautiful water lillies, being surrounded by lovely quirkey animals and enjoying the stunning views, let's even the most hardened 'townies' quickly get at one with nature. As others mentioned in their reviews already, we have to say again that Zoe, Paul and their whole family really genuinely do anything possibly to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. Their 'Moules & Frites' night was not only great food, but also great fun and had the feel of a night out with friends. Adults and children quickly relax and mix with their fellow campers in this unique setting. This is not a commercial campsite! Zoe and Paul seem to have a vision and philosophy about what camping should be like, which make this site really amazing. This place truly has the 'X-Faxtor' and we are looking forward to visiting again.

What a find! We cannot say enough good things about this gem of a campsite and we fell in love with Le Chateau De Monfreville. It is such a chilled out place set in beautiful grounds and provided a perfect base for exploring Normandy. Our daughter absolutely loved swimming in the natural pond and feeding Bert the donkey grass! Croissants to end all croissants are delivered to your tent first thing in the morning, the Moules Frites evening is not to be missed and the homemade preserves on sale in the honesty shop a treat. The bathroom facilities are charming, immaculate and there was always lots of hot water. Paul & Zoe are fabulous hosts and really good fun too. We really hope to return next year
