The site was a good basic base to use for sightsighting in the surrounding area. The tent field is very exposed to wind, except on the curtilage, which we found people had exploited, taking up much more room than needed and leaving large spaces in between pitches. A wind break from the adjoining field would be a good improvement.
The showers were adequete, although if there was a 'family' shower in the Ladies it would save a lot of Waiting time
We did the sight seeing we had planned throughout the area.
There is nothing 'local' within walking distance so we found the evenings a little boring on site, because the weather wasn't good

Just like the last reviewer, this was our first time camping (with a 10 week-old baby to boot) so we decided on this site because it is close to home and seems to have a good reputation.
The people in reception on arrival and departure were first-rate and very friendly and helpful. The site itself is in a beautiful setting nestled up against the lower slopes of Dumyat at the western end of the Ochil hills, so there is no shortage of scenery. The site is located on the A91 between Stirling and Menstrie, so there are plenty of local amenities and tourist attractions, but little within easy walking distance. There is no shop on site but rolls, milk and papers can be ordered from reception.
The layout of the site was a little less than intuitive, however, and I share the previous reviewer's concern that most of the facilities (toilets, showers, laundry, play area) were located very near the entrance to the site. As the main tent area is at the very rear of the site, this meant a good old walk to use any of the facilities. That's no problem during the day, but it's a right old pain at 4am when it's raining.
To be fair, despite their location, the facilities are superb: warm, scrupulously clean and served by a welcoming 24hr radio feed. I should also add that there are points for drinking water, waste water and rubbish/litter provided throughout the site, so you won't have to walk far for those. The play area is small but well-equipped, although some of the apparatus was a little too big for my 4 year-old daughter.
All in all this was a very positive first experience for my family and I and, despite one or two minor niggles, we really enjoyed our stay here. There is a lovely atmosphere at this site and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for families with younger kids.

This is a lovely site spotless toilets, very friendly owners, small shop you can order milk & papers for the morning, what a view of the Ochil hills, you can climb to the top if your fit enough as quite a few did when we were there, there's also a kids play park which the kids seemed to love, the park was also quiet at night no drunken carry on when your trying to sleep, It’s handy for Stirling shops, Castle, Wallace monument and much more, will return soon.
The only thing that annoyed me was having to pay extra to use my canopy, no sides just the roof, thought this was a bit greedy, a few sites seem to be doing this now. Still a nice site for all the family.

As a first time camper I was very nervous but I needn't have been because this site was better than I could have ever expected. The staff were very friendly and I noticed that one of the girls did checks every so often round the park to make sure everything was OK.
The toilets were clean and the play area although probably only suitable for under 10s was of high quality too. The only negative thing I would say is that the play park would have been better situated in the centre rather than at the entrance and then all campers could keep an eye on their children.
I sat with my 8 year old in the park while he played as I was too scared to leave him as it was so close to the entrance. However, that said we all had a great time and met some lovely people. The park wasn't noisy at night (apart from the sheep on the hills)
Would really recommend this site so much so that we plan to go again next weekend.

Another excellent week at Witches Craig. I cannot fault this campsite. It is very central, we left the car at Stirling and took the train to Edinburgh, which took less than an hour. We were only 40 mins from Knockhill racetrack as well.
The facilities are 5*, plentiful hot water and extremely clean. The radio is a nice touch in the toilet blocks too!
A fridge freezer in the laundry room for iceblocks etc £2.40 for a load of washing, which we managed to dry outside as the weather was beautiful, £1 for around 15 mins in the tumble drier.
The staff are very friendly and helpful too.
The dog walk was free from litter and doggy do's and although we didn't have our dog with us this time it was still a pleasure to have a walk every evening.
There is a playpark but our 3 yr old never used it so cant comment on it, but it looked well maintained.

Beautiful site in an excellent location for exploring the surrounding area. The Ochil Hills form a stunning backdrop to the site.
On arrival, we were met by very friendly and helpful staff and, although there is no site shop, there was the opportunity to order newspapers, rolls, etc. There is ample shopping nearby.
Touring caravan pitches are almost all hardstanding - make sure you have rock pegs for your awning.
Toilet/shower block was always very clean and the piped music was a good feature. A second hairdryer in the ladies would be handy.
Dog walking area is very close by and can easily be extended into a decent walk.
We would recommend this site and it is our intention to return in the future.

This was our second visit to the site. This is a well run facility with good facilities. The toilets are regularly cleaned and the washing facilities were modern and well lit.
Pitch layout ensures good privacy and the staff are friendly and helpful. Sensibly located motorhome service point ensured easy access to grey water dump and chemical disposal.
This site is a gem and I warmly recommend it *****

My fiancee and I bought our first tent to try camping for the very first time in the morning and arrived at this lovely site in the afternoon. As we had bought the large Sahara 6 tent we were concerned about getting a pitch as we have seen some sites only take a certain size of tent.No fears here as we were warmly accepted.
Extremely friendly greeting which remained all through our stay. Site was spotless as was the dish washing / laundry / toilet block and is a credit to the owners and staff.
We took a walk up the Ochil hills and the views are superb and are worth the effort.
Thanks to the lovely weather, location and the warm welcome we will be back again through the summer.
Excellent site which deserves all the credit it receives.

This was my first caravan trip age 48. Used my sisters van and had the in-laws with us as we stayed 4 nights at this site before moving up to Fort William for another 4.
What a lovely little gem of a site with plenty near by places to go see and do.
Went into Edinburgh for the day using the park and ride system just outside the city.
Stirling Castle and the Wallace monument are a must.
Shame it has no little shop but supermarket is just down the road.
The road outside the camp gets the boy racers late in the evenings who love to let us know what a big bore exhaust they have but apart from that it’s a lovely place.
Stayed June 2010, travelled with family

We booked in for 2 nights but stayed 3 as the weather (and the site) were wonderful!
On arrival we were greeted warmly at reception. I did expect the tent field to be much bigger but as it was early in the season there were very few tents there.
The tent area is a bit bumpy and uneven but we found an area to pitch easily, might not be so easy in busier months. What a relief to be able to hammer in tent pegs with ease! We didn't need to use them as the weather was fab but the undercover huts would have been great had it rained. Water was available on the tent field which was handy, the addition of fire points nearby was reassuring!
The toilet block was the best I've known. Heated and very clean. We didn't have to queue for showers but again the park was not even a quarter full so not sure how this might be in the summer months. Music in the toilets is a great idea. The dishwash area again was kept clean and tidy as was the laundry room which had a washer and dryer, an iron and a freezer (great for our ice packs!).
The dog walk area was really welcomed as our dog is a huge part of our family, however, as we are so careful to clear up after our dogs I also think that children or parents of children should be asked and reminded to clear up their kids juice bottles and sweetie wrappers, the entrance to the dog walk area was littered with sweet wrappers.
The surrounding areas were gorgeous although the weather was so nice we hardly ventured off site! The coffee bothy just 5 minutes walk down the (very very busy!) road, we took the car because of this was lovely, we ate outside from the takeaway section but beware it closes at 2.30pm, some beautiful meals cooked on site as well as cakes and biscuits.
So the bad points. Well to be honest there were virtually none, one I've mentioned was the litter in the dog walking area and the only other one was the tent field being furthest away from the amenity block. The addition of even a portaloo in the tent field would be great for late night visits. Even that didn't bother us that much but again that was due to the weather, I wouldn't fancy making that walk at 2am in the dark when it's pouring of rain.
All in all a most excellent site that we'll visit again, although I will go out of season as I feel it might be very very busy with children in the summer months.
