Well we did dread this camping holiday as it was our first camping experience, my husband and I, daughter 5 and son 2 for 1 week. It was as suggested by other reviews, a typical holiday with amusements etc but I can assure you that this was a gift when all's we had was rain for 1 week solid!
I can say that I wouldn't go again for 1 week to Ty Mawr nor would I stay in the Meadows, we stayed in the non-service area, which is a free for all, the weekend was busy with tents flying up everywhere.
Toilets were cleaned in the morning and thats all, rain making the whole cleanliness thing alot to be desired. I do agree with other reviews that the pool area is old fashioned and getting dressed to 100% dryness is very hard. The toilets at 10am (first swim of the day after the adult swim) were not clean.
The entertainment staff were great, they put in 100% with the kids, and mine only attended when I did at night. Entertainment lounge could do with a revamp. I got the feeling that there wasn't much in the way of maintenance staff.
Overall it wasn't my normal sort of holiday nor my type of people but the kids really enjoyed it, even in the rain. I would go back for 2 nights on a serviced pitch but I would request the 'Warren' area next time due to the toilets/showers being in a building block, although I didn't go in these so can't say they would be much better, although the pitch would be.
You get given a 'fun pass' per person when you arrive so as you can get into swimming, amusements area etc but didn't show this once in all 7 days!

I have just returned from a weekend at Ty Mawr, with my husband, 12 week old baby, sister and nephew. We wanted a weekend away no more than a 90 minute drive from our home in Chesire. Whilst I didn't have high hopes for this site or the area, I was pleasantly surprised.
Having bad memories from past visits to Rhyl and Prestatyn, I expected Abergele to be the same and it was far from what I expected. It was clean, litter free and a nice family resort. The Ty Mawr park was also a nice surprise. Yes, it is typical of 'Butlins style' holiday camps, but it is clean and tidy with excellent facilities to make a good family holiday.
We stayed in the meadows with a touring caravan, and the toilet and shower blocks were portakabins, but provided clean and tidy amenities with hot flowing water. Far better than some sites we have previously stayed at.
The main complex provided a game arcade, which is typical of this type of resort, but lets face it - most seaside towns have these! The swimming pool is a little dated, but clean. It was ideal for my 8 year old nephew. If you don't want to swim in there, it's only a 10 minute drive to the sun centre at Rhyl. There is also a main club style area and disco (Coco Club) with kids club activities which offers something for kids of all ages. Ideal is the weather is a little naff.
Also on site there is a nicely stocked and reasonably priced shop, chippy and pub. The pub offers 2 for £10 meals which ranged from burgers to lasagne - typical pub grub. Nothing awe inspiring but ok for the price. Drinks prices were about £2.50 a pint, which is cheaper than the pubs where we live!
Offsite there a number of static caravan sites which offer non-residents entry to their clubs and arcades, and a short 5 minute walk take you to a pedestrianised little street with bars similar to those you find abroad. Yes they're a bit cheesy, but they're geared up for families so the atmosphere was nice. Also in this area is a small fun fair. Again great for the kids as well as been immaculately clean and tidy!
I would thoroughly recommend this resort to anyone with kids, there's always something going on to keep them occupied and close by to lots of interesting days out at places like Llandudno, Conwy, Cearnarfon and Colwyn Bay.

We've just come back from a weekend at Ty Mawr.
We stayed in the Meadows. Nice big pitches and no real noise problems at night. Unfortunately the 'newly refurbished' toilets and showers are portacabins. When the toilets were cleaned they were very clean but did not stay that way for long. They would definitely benefit from a mid day clean as well. There are not enough toilets and showers for the number of pitches The morning toilet and wash rush lasted til about 11.30, with people always waiting. The showers were clean and nice and hot but have a drainage problem. You are constatly standing in water up to your ankles.
The pool was clean and warm but the changing areas are inadequate. It is impossible to get changed without getting your clothes all wet as there are hardly any hooks and no duck boarding to stand on.
We probably wouldn't rush back there again as I think a proper campsite represents better value for money but overall we enjoyed our stay.

Stayed on the meadows and first impressions were not very good. Flat field, no hard standing with a central assembly of portacabins for toilets and showers. All I can say is don't go off first impressions. I've stayed on sites with brick toilet blocks that have been much much worse than these. The toilets were imaculately clean with plenty of hot water; the only downside is that there were no cubicles for a standing wash.
The showers were the best I have used away from home - complete shower cubicles with proper electric showers - not the ones you have to lean against to keep the water flowing. The dish washing area was also very clean with instant hot water regardless of the time of day.
The site was very good value for money - electic pitch for 7 nights for 2 adults £99.
We only went in the club a couple of times and found the prices to be no more than in Rhyl and there were also 4 pint jugs of lager on sale for £10.00.
The lighting was good when coming back across the field at night so did not need a torch.
This site is situated right next to the main road and we used the local buses to get to Rhyl and Llandudno. As my husband uses a wheelchair we found the proximity to the main road and the flat terrain to be a blessing.
Cant comment on the pub, pool or chippy as we did not use them but we did use the camp shop which had everything that we needed.
All in all I was pleasantly surprised and will stay here again.

Just got back from two nights camping at Ty Mawr. We stayed in the camping field with the portaloos not the Warren
The field was flat and well set out and although my tent is 7.6m x 7.6m it wasn't a problem even though they say 6 by 6 max, tent size. The toilets and showers are very good with no complaints,
We had a meal at the pub which is at the front of the site, food was ok at its best, the chips are frozen but didn't expect any thing else, the meals are about £6 to £8 each and £3.50 for kids,
Also used the chip shop on site, big portions and again ok at its best.
Club house was typical of this kind of site so cant complain, bitter £2.80 a pint vodka and lemonade £2.60 and lager on special at £2 all night.
The pool was clean and nice and warm 10 out of 10 there.
First time on this site and will return if I need a site with all the extras due to poor weather for example

Stayed here for two nights early June. No hard standing but sites were level, we were on site called 'the warren' Other site looked a bit rough and was just a field with porta loos. Ours had good toilet block, clean with plenty of hot water but you have to keep pressing shower or it stops quickly. The baths were warm and spotless. Poor spectator area for non swimmers. Good adventure playground our 3yrs old grandson loved it. Entertainment was good for kids and there was cash bingo for adults before show started. All staff friendly and very helpful. Site is close to many local attractions from Rhyl to Llandudno and Conway depending on your likes. We will be returning in near future.

Returned for a second year running and was located in the Warren Area this time (in the Meadows before) and it was much better. The toilet/shower block was a building rather than a portable like in The Meadows. It rained quite a lot but didn't put us off. Toilets/Showers not the most modern but were hosed down quite frequently and the was also a warden/cleaner about all the time.
The Farmhouse Inn has had a new carpet and a lick of paint so looks alot better. We also we aware that the security guards patroled quite frequently which was reassuring.
We would still return again. Entertainment still great for the kids and in the surrounding area thee is loads to do.

We have just returned from a 6 night stay here.
It rained most of the week - we is to be expected in March but the drainage was VERY POOR - we had puddles of mud which then turned to swamps all around the awning!
The toilet block was very old and very COLD - the showers were luke warm and you had to keep pressing the button every 10 seconds otherwise the water switched off - not very relaxing.
Rhyl was typical amusements etc. Not very pretty. We went to Conwy castle which was lovely and the kids enjoyed it too. Greenwoods Forest Park is about 1/2 hour away and well worth a visit the kids loved it.
Kids went swimming once and didn't want to go again - very unlike my children! They said it was FREEZING and the slide wasn't working. Shop ok, well stocked apart from fruit!

This site on a whole was okay and we are planning to go back in May. The prices are a little expensive and (£32.00 a night in half term) but area is great, and our children were well entertained in the evening.
There is only one camping field which is quite a walk from the reception and entertainment area but it had clean toilets and showers. There is a Pub on site and the food was okay but it is in desperate need of an overhaul/up dating.
The evening entertainment was great, our daughters (4) and (2) had a ball, it was clean and very big. The onsite shop was well stocked, but there is also a large Tesco in Abergele.
The area itself has plenty of things to do. We went to the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, which I would highly reccomend, Conwy Castle, Llandudno, Rhyl, all of which are no more than a 45 minute drive away.
If you would like a site that has good entertainment and is close to many visting places this is a good choice.

Constructive criticism eh?
Just returned from stay at Ty Mawr (thankfully)
2 Adults, three children 6+12+13 y/o
Not at all cheap £195 for 5 nights.
They should refurbish the pool as it desperately needs it, my 6 yr old son noticed how grubby it looked and didn't want to go in it again. He also said the pool slide didn't feel safe and wobbled as he went down it. (pool was also very cold)
They should make the pitches hard standing as when we arrived, there was a muddy pool where the awning was to go - had to put down waterproof groundsheet - as have many others which is why the grass had gone - that and poor drainage?
Electric hook up on pitch, although the fresh water point was very dirty on the floor around it.
Shower facilities clean, but old - a shutter was used at night to section off the facilities to one shower and two toilets? WHY???
Took a look around the 'tent' field just for laughs and glad I wasn't stopping there - dirt track road in a bumpy field with portaloos.! Looked like a music festival site.!
It all depends on what you want from a holiday, but we certainly wouldn't recommend this site unless you don't mind the above points - and the high price tag.
I hope my comments are useful to you if you are thinking of stopping here.???
