What a superb site, visited in June and was met by Bruce and Celia the wardens who help you on to your pitch, they are on duty Sat Sun and Monday. The Owners of the site then take over for the rest of the week who are also very helpful. The site is Immaculate and very peaceful, check out the sheep dog trial training near to pitch 13 in the evenings. Toilet and Shower facilities consist of 2xLadies wc cubicles, 1x Gents wc & urinal also 2 unisex individual room showers where you have complete privacy once inside, also 1x unisex wc self contained also for disabled. These facilities are without doubt the cleanest I have ever come across. When a caravan leaves the site Bruce rakes the gravel area ready for the next visitor! Kendal shopping centre is quite large and situated about 4 to 5 miles away with Asda being the closest Supermarket. The Station Inn pub is about 2 mls away serves nice food I would recommend this site and mark it as 10 out of 10 !

This is the second time we have been here and would return again. No children playing football or running around caravans just the sound of birds and sheep and the odd low flying plane. This is a site where you can relax and enjoy the views and watch the farmer train his sheepdogs. The showers are proper showers no push buttons, you can adjust the water temp to your own liking. As you would expect on a adults only they are very clean as are the toilets. The pitches are spacious and you dont feel that you are close to the next caravan. The wardens and the owners are very helpful giving you a green folder on arrival with lots of info in it that is very useful. The site is not far from the M6 or Kendal and is easy to get to. We found that it was a good base to go sightseeing around the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Just returned from a week of peace at this site. Was welcomed by site weekend warden Colin who gave us a green folder full of local info and places to visit, the info included postcodes handy if you have a navigator. The site was very smart with lovely views.
Had some lovely lunches in Kendal 10 mins away although we also had the worse takeaway curry from the indian near the river so be warned.
My only gripe about the site was the lack of a mirror in the spotless showers.Just wish we had more of these sites in Scotland.
Just remember to take your levelling blocks( although they even sell them on site)as all pitches are sloping.

Well all has been said in previous posts, took the words out of my mouth, truly lovely site. Due to these reviews we decided to spend 8 days at the Ashes, we were not disappointed. Only one tiny gripe as we were on pitch 13 at the bottom of site and all the rain that was had, and it was torrential, flooded our awning, but have to say drained away pretty quickly. So ordinarily think drainage would have been adequate. Thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the Farmer training sheepdogs over the wall, stunning views, the best pitch on the site in my opinion. Friendly owners and wardens. Good location. And well worth a visit and we will be returning.

This is a very peaceful and relaxing site with immaculately clean facilities. We stayed there for 7 nights and will have to return as we did not have time see everything in the area that we wanted to. We have never stayed anywhere with such lovely views so do take your camera with you. The site itself is really well kept and the facilities are what you would expect to find on a small site. There are 2 lovely shower rooms with heaters which either gender can use and once inside you have total privacy. There are 2 toilets for ladies and 2 for gents and also a separate toilet and washroom mainly for disabled people which my husband liked as he has mobility problems but anyone can use it apparently. The pitches are hardstanding with lots of grass around, some are level, some a little sloping but you would expect that as the area is quite hilly. We did our shopping at Asda which is a short (3 mile) drive away, okay for caravanners but I guess motorhome users may find this a drag. The people next to us walked to the village store in the next village which they said was a pleasant 2.5 miles up the lane. I haven't got a bad thing to say about the place, can't wait to go back!

Just spent eight nights at Ashes, if you need a place to go and chill out then this is it, set in a valley surrounded by rolling hills with nothing but the sound of birds and sheep. The camp site is really well maintained, all pitches are set on shale / gravel, so if you have an awning you will need rock pegs and also levelling blocks, as nearly all pitches are on a slope. If you have a dog the dog walk is very small but just outside the camp there are two public bridal paths. Access to the site three quarters of a mile down a lane that is just more than one cars width with unkempt grass verges both side and is little used but just as you turn into site lane gets tight, but I did it easy with my 24ft van & freelander Yes I would stay here again, the warden & owner very friendly. If you decide to go don't forget all your food etc as the nearest asda is 5 miles away. ps the only downside, the imaculate shower/toilet block only 1 toilet for each sex & 2 showers unisex.

A truly outstanding site for getting away from it all. It is in a wonderful position, with rolling hills and dales, sheep, cows and birds for companions. We did ask to be moved from the motorhome hardstanding position(only one allocated) as we were facing the in/out gate and to the side was a tall hedge which meant no view at all. It wasn't a problem and we moved next to the toilet block. I have to mention that these were truly 5 star. Shower room was amazing with a place to sit and a heater. I would have liked to see a mirror and perhaps a hairdryer but the whole thing was immaculate. A 20 minute walk to the main road (5 mins in car) and we caught local bus into Kendal. From Kendal you can go anywhere either by car, rail or bus and we went to Lake Windermere on the bus, then did a Lake cruise. We had a brilliant day out, and using bus timetables were able to make it back to the motorhome without any problems. It was great to get back to the magnificent views and to relax watching the farmer training his dogs with the sheep. Would come again.

This is an immaculate site - spotlessly clean toilets and showers. The whole site is regularly and well maintained. No litter, quiet with beautiful views. Ideally located just a couple or three miles off the M6 motorway and 5 or 6 into Kendal. All hard standings, with plenty of grass around. Note - must vacate your pitches by 11-30 am on day of departure.

This is a hidden gem. Formerly a CL but now licensed for 24 pitches, and being exclusively adult, it is a truly tranquil and well kept site, with views of rolling countryside all around, in which one of the commonest sounds is that of the Curlew.
The pitches all have hard standing areas and electricity supply. There are several water supply points. The owners who are very friendly and helpful don't mind awnings and barbecues as long as care of the grass is kept in mind. The toilets and free shower are spotlessly clean. There is a small area for exercising dogs. There isn't a site shop but Kendal is only a 10 minute journey away and offers a generous range of facilities.
There is an on-site information board and the owners keep a file of leaflets, brochures etc. on local and regional events and attractions. For those who wish to concentrate on the local area, Kendal has all the charms of a traditional English country town and there are numerous easy, attractive and varied walks - riversides, hills, fells, woods, villages - all within easy reach of the site, especially if a short 10-15 minute drive is not an obstacle.
A good network of roads, with the M6 less than 3 miles away, means that New Hutton is ideally located for access, within an hour or so, to a whole range of areas of outstanding natural beauty such as the Lake District, the coast around Morecambe Bay, the Yorkshire Dales and the Northern Pennines - and to a collection of interesting towns such as Ambleside, Carlisle, Hawes, Keswick, Kirkby Lonsdale, Penrith, Sedbergh etc.
This site probably has the best location of any we know for offering such a wide spectrum of leisure opportunities with the promise of peace and quiet at the end of the day or as a complete alternative itself.
