We have visited this site regularly over the August Bank Holiday for several years now.
We stayed three nights this time.
Nothing has really changed over the last six or seven years, the main [unisex!] toilet block, whilst a bit 'dated' is clean, and the showers are hot, and free, and although it is quite a long walk to the main amenities from the top two fields, a pair of smaller toilets are on the 'Top' field, although these contain just a toilet & sink, and cold water.
The single track road to the camping field really could do with resurfacing, but I guess it keeps the speed of the cars using it down, and there are ample 'passing places'.
We took a ride into Whitby on the steam train [check the times out when you arrive]. The site is very good for watching the 'steam trains' go by [especially to a steam railway enthusiast like myself].
If I could give this site 11 out 10 for location I would do so. The views are second to none. And we will no doubt be back again next year.

We had the opportunity for a few days away in our van and had tickets to ride the Flying Scotsman on the NYMR - having looked at lots of reviews of sites we kept coming back to Abbots House Farm, so booked 4 nights - having negotiated the rather bumpy track, we got down the farmhouse (reception), and was directed to our spot with Hook up - as it was dark the owner helped us site the van - and as it happens we were given hard standing, very close to the toilet and shower block, and better still, right next to the railway, so we didn't even have to get out of bed to watch the steam trains go by:)
The toilets and showers were clean, plentiful hot water too.
The site itself was quiet as it was the beginning of their season, and to be honest we're happy that the track is bumpy (it puts off the moaning minnies who don't want to get their car/caravan tyres dirty) - a lovely relaxing stay, a shortish walk back into Goathland for the pub/shops/railway station - no light pollution - friendly owners, and great fellow campers too:)
We will definitely be back!

Really expensive £24 1 night. Terrible trackway. Old facilities. Noisy caravan neighbours. Not recommended. If you really want to see Goathland stay at Whitby and get the steam train in.

Just got home [yesterday] from another lovely few days at this site. Being August Bank Holiday it was quite busy, but the site facilities coped well. There was still ample space, although on one of our nights we had a couple with two dogs pitch right next to us [with their guy ropes literally crossing ours]. Why anyone would want to camp so close is beyond me, especially when half the field is empty [as it was]. But thankfully they went early the next morning.
We had an evening meal one of the nights in the Goathland Hotel [aka 'The Aidensfield Arms']. Highly recommended and at a reasonable price too, its also good that the pub allowed us in with our dog.
We took our usual day trip on the Steam Railway to Whitby and also visited Hutton-le-Hole, Thornton-le-Dale, Pickering & Grosmont whilst there.
You may have noticed that this is not the first review we've done for this site, and it certainly wont be our last as we are intending to visit again next year.

Booked in here for two nights. When on the phone we said we'd be arriving that day and that we'd require electric. However, on arrival (after the long drive down the pothole ridden road - in desperate need of repair) when we saw the prices - including an extra £4 per night for electric - we decided to go without. As a result we were put in the top field and told to pitch where we liked. This field contained the usual water tap and CDP, and 3 toilets, which were in need of repair and very small.
The good points about the site are that the walks are good.
However, the walk from the top field to the showers was a good hike - and once you got to the shower facilities they were old and in need of some refurbishment. They obviously had not been cleaned in some while. There was just one sink for dishwashing in the same building. However, because of the trek down to the facilities we didn't use this. We looked at the field with the Electric Hook Ups and it was boggy and we definitely would not have risked pitching the motorhome there. Also in the book it stated that this site had many more showers than we could find (3) which for a site this large is quite poor.
We chose this site because after staying on CLs with no facilities for the previous 5 nights we wanted a 'little bit of luxury'. We definitely didn't get it here - and we definitely wont be returning.

Used this site regularly when the children were young, in the 1990s - early 2000s and made a visit again last week.
Lovely location with fantastic views and able to pitch with morning and evening sun. Spacious fields with a free choice of pitch.
Friendly helpful staff.
The lane has got a bit rougher but is ok if you drive at a sensible speed and is fine for walking to the pub.
We shall definitely return.

We've just got home from spending a few 'midweek' days at this site. The weather was good, and the site was fairly quiet [with the exception of a group of Duke of Edingburgh's Award youngsters, who tbh, were impeccably behaved, and all very polite too].
One of the days we took the 9. 47[am] train into Whitby and returned on the 17. 30 to a very welcome BBQ.
This is not the first time we have visited this lovely site, and we will certainly be going again.

My family and I first discovered Abbot's House Farm by chance around 20 years ago when visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and have returned time and again.
The pleasure begins with a half-mile drive along the original heritage railway bed, tree-lined and beautiful in spring and autumn. We have seen deer, badgers, squirrels, hares, hedgehogs, rabbits, owls, butterflies, bluebells and primroses in this lane.
On entering the farm, there are camping fields on both sides. The sheltered field on the right has loos and CDP etc, but the larger field on the left, that we prefer, has spectacular views across the moors, especially in August when they are covered in purple heather. This popular field is where Greengrass's Battle of Aidensfield was fought in the Heartbeat era!
There are hook-ups in the field next to the showers (which can get muddy when kids and dogs have been playing in the stream).
But, the most exciting part is the steam railway that runs right through the farm, with extra toots for waving campers. The preserved railway is operated for visitors, with Pulman trains on a weekend. Sunday lunch is the best value. We even saw Hogwarts Express during the filming of Harry Potter. And Tornado, the new-build A1 locomotive.
We used half-price camping vouchers from their website on our last visit.
The friendly and helpful couple who own the farm do their best to keep their campers happy, but, unfortunately have no control over the British weather. My family love this place, rain or shine.

This is a site I use regularly when I'm in the area visiting the North Yorkshire moors railway, which runs right through the farm, next to the toilets, isn't that great? Anyway, I've never stayed in the electric field so I decided to see for myself this part of the campsite that a recent camper had just described. When I got to my pitch, I didn't recognise it as the place the previous reviewer has described. I always pitch on the big fields cos I don't need power for my tent, that's for wimps! So I asked the owner if I could camp on the electric field and put my m/bike next to my tent, I didn't need power so I was shown to a pitch without a hookup in this paddock. The owners could not have been more helpful with this. The prices are still very reasonable here, in fact the cheapest in Goathland when you use a half price voucher off the internet site. I always enjoy the ride along the beautiful lane to the site, its a real joy to see all the wild life and lovely trees in the summer. The beck round the paddock has trout in it, and that's beautiful too. The toilet blocks are just the same as ever, quite usable and basic, but what more do you need when you are camping, there's more hot water than you'll ever need, and lots of shower cubicles. No campsite on the moors has such a lovely location. I will return time and again, it's so handy for all my visits to things in the area.

We wanted to stay around this area and found this site through the Cades Site Guide. I made the booking by phone and was charged over £20 per night for my caravan, with electric and myself and my wife. Full payment had to be made in advance. When we arrived I could not believe the length of the drive in, over mud and deep potholes. Met the owner who took us right down to the bottom pasture, in the far corner by the beck (what I call a river, which had very steep sides to it) The area was very muddy and boggy, with heavy rain that morning. We had electrics but I would be very surprised if they would pass any H & S Regs as the wiring was strung along on posts and bushes without any apparent trip switches anywhere. I visited the toilets & showers and then informed my wife to use our caravan facilities as the site facilities were, in my opinion, old, dirty and mud everywhere. It was impossible to shave as it was to dark, even during daytime and lights could not be used until 19. 00hrs. We left a day early, will never visit this site again and I consider the owner is only interested in taking as much money as possible with very little provided in return.
I have toured through many countries and this site is possibly one of the worst I have ever stayed at. I consider myself to be very tolerant and understanding with campsites but not in this case I`m afraid.
