This is a lovely quiet site, very basic facilities in need

modernisation, they were quite dirty so did not use them, the showers are down past the site office, is not easy to turn if your vehicle is long.

The owner was not very helpful

We cycled into the village the track is about a mile and full of potholes.

The village is lovely, I’m a Heartbeat fan so it was great

As has been mentioned previously – the lane leading to the site is very, very badly pot holed, The lane may not belong to the site but the owner must realise that is stopping us coming back.

This site was not worth the £17. 00 we paid for the night and we will not be back

Welcome to our home and business. Our campsite receives somewhere in the order of 6000 overnights from visitors. We make everyone welcome and put all our efforts into maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for all. We provide washroom facilities that are basic, cleaned regularly and frequently at bank holidays and busy weekends. We do not, in line with a lot of other campsites, provide towels, soaps and driers, which by their very nature, can become targets for vandalism. We ask that campers provide their own personal effects. We are constantly improving our facilities to a standard which is more than the minimum required by our site licence.

A campsite is more than just the facilities it provides free for its visitors. It's also about allowing people to enjoy our property, situated as it is in one of the best natural environments in the UK, and allowing access to many footpaths and locations across the North Yorkshire Moors. Visitors are also free to pitch where they choose, bring as many tents, cars, trailers, boats as they wish, without any extra charges, and come and go freely all hours. We feel that this generous approach to our visitors makes our home a very relaxing place to holiday.

We would appreciate that any visitor with a complaint would address these directly to any of our family, as complaints received after a visit can clearly not be addressed. We strive continuously to maintain our friendly dealings with our campers. We have notices in the facilities which read: WE TRY HARD TO KEEP THE TOILETS STOCKED WITH LOO ROLL AND KEEP THE SHOWERS CLEAN. PLEASE TELL US IF THE LOO ROLL HAS DISAPPEARED OR IF A MESS HAS APPEARED!

We wish all our customers, past and future a very pleasant season and hope to see again all who enjoy our home and campsite.

Best wishes from the owners, Ian & Eileen Cox

The site is in the midst of spectacular scenery and is ideally (for us)situated in the middle of nowhere and when we visited was peaceful and relaxing. The track mentioned by others seemed 'not too bad' and walks of varying degrees of difficulty can be accessed directly from the site providing the added bonus of not having to drive. All seems set then for a great holiday until you visit the facilities, old plumbing I can live with, cobwebs too are no deterrent but dirty washbasins and toilet bowls and no toilet paper, handwash or paper towels is unacceptable to our family and regretfully we won't return, a shame because this is in every other aspect a splendid site.

This is a lovely quiet site, very basic facilities in need of modernisation, the showers are down past the site office, is not easy to turn if your vehicle is long.

The owners are very friendly and extremely helpful; we had to ask to be towed off the field as it was very wet!

The walk into the village is about a mile long but even in the rain it was still a nice walk.

The village is lovely, I’m not a Heartbeat fan but you don’t need to be to enjoy it.

As has been mentioned previously – the lane leading to the site is very, very badly pot holed, the Vicar of Dibley and Dr. Foster would most definitely not of walked down it! The lane may not belong to the site but the owner must realise that is stopping us coming back. If it is stopping us coming back, how many more people are put off returning because of it?

Midge's, midge's everywhere. Decided to camp here because it was close to the Mallyan Spout Falls which the kids wanted to go and see. Love this area as well so gave it a go.

As in previous reviews the track leading to the site is heavily potholed and care needs to be taken driving along it. The facilities are basic which I'm ok with.

When we visited they was a lot of rain and wind, but the thick hedges around the perimeter sorted it out. The top field we pitched in was damp but well drained. Park your vehicle's at the entrance to the field.

There is no playground at the site for the kids, but Goathland Village Hall has a great one for the kids to use.

I personally will not go back to this site in summer at least due to the midge's couldn't even cook the breakfast due to them landing on the bacon and sausages. I basically backed the car up and loaded the equipment wet and muddy and drove away as 'slow' as I could. Down the potholed track. When I got home my wife counted 400 bites mostly on my head and hand's.

Might go back in winter because I did like the site. Just the midges.

The site is well marked from the road, with the entrance next to the Aidensfield Arms. The track, as others have mentioned is extremely damaged with deep and unavoidable pot holes. With the best will in the world and a very slow pace you still can't get round the fact that the rather long approach road is awful and could very well potentially damage anything driven along it.

As you approach the site, a sign guides you to the left to reception. If your towing, leave your vehicle in one of the first fields and walk to reception (the house). What the sign doesn't tell you is once at reception you will struggle to turn round to head back to the camping fields! We had to uncouple our caravan, move it by hand and then recouple it to enable us to turn it round in the tiny courtyard at the end.

My partner went into reception and paid £16 pn for the two of us. I'm glad we didn't have kids with us, we would of needed a small mortgage!

The lady in the house said we could pitch wherever we wanted. In the end we decided upon the rally field, even though marked 'tents only', people in that field said caravans had been on there recently and the view is by far the best in our opinion. From that field you get a great scenic view including the North York Moors Railway. Steam trains going past every hour was a lovely sight and sound.

I didn't bother with the sites facilities, but my partner said the shower was acceptable, but in need of modernisation.

The bins were overflowing, I'm not sure if this is due to us visiting just after the jubilee weekend or whether this is the norm? Looking at a giant skip overflowing with carrier bags full of rubbish was not a nice sight.

It was 'evident' that the field we were pitched in had been used for the sheep previously, as they had left little 'parcels' everywhere. Not an issue for us, but I'm not sure it would be so good if you had children running around.

It rained (a lot) overnight, but I was able to get our large and heavy caravan off the rally field without a problem. However, the bottom field at the other side of the railway line looked like it had a new pond, we couldn't help feeling sorry for the people camping there.

So bottom line, Abbots House Farm is in a beautiful part of the country, there is lots to visit, see and do nearby, but the owners need to realise that without investment of time and money, this site will continue to get negative reviews. As for the road and the owners previous comments to campers, even though it may be a bridleway, its used to access their site so I think they should stop making excuses, invest in a load of stone and get the holes filled in! It's such a shame, because the site has so much potential and with a little investment it may be worth the high prices they charge! We wont be visiting again unless a lot of things change.

I stayed on this farm last weekend and the fee was eight pounds per person, I once paid 18 pounds for myself on a site, now that's expensive. If you have a lot of people with you then you pay more, is that clever or what? The weather was foul but is that the fault of the owners, campers just get on with it. Camped in France in the rain, rain happens everywhere.

The access lane is a beautiful tree-lined avenue, bet it looks absolutely stunning in autumn time, you can forgive the rough surface of the old railway line, you are adequately compensated when you arrive on the site, wet as it was, what terrific views and spacious pitches, no warden dragon to tell you where to pitch and all that stuff, and constant hot water like a five star hotel.

Went in and out a few times on my bike, wasn't a bit concerned about a few potholes (see previous reviewer)no probs here. The handyman was busy working on the lane putting stuff in the surface, he said that he was always repairing it, even though it belonged to next door's farm, what a hero!

Found the site easily, following the directions provided.

Previous reviews mention the state of the track to approach the site. It was worse, it was horrible, the pot holes were huge and full of rain water, so really difficult to negotiate. We were in a lowered VW campervan, and felt like we were taking the bottom off the van on more than one occasion! I would not recommend this site if you value the safety of your car/van/caravan/motorhome. When I arrived at reception, really shaken up by the track, the owner explained it wasn't their track, it was a public bridleway! Not their responsibility!?!? What a poor get out! I would say it is their business, fix it! Poor reviews like this don't help a business! I would contact the owners before you decide to stay to see if this has been fixed.

It had been raining a lot before we arrived, so the site was really wet and muddy.

Goathland is lovely, I would recommend the Goathland Hotel, and a day out on the steam train.

The owners of the campsite were lovely, and even offered to tow us off the field at the end of our stay (because of the mud!).

The facilities were basic, but manageable. I would say it wasn't worth the £40/night we paid (2 adults, 3 children and electric hook up). We have camped on much better sites for much less/night.

If the approaching track was sorted out, facilities improved and price lowered I would return in the future.

Goathland is a beautiful place to camp, but I'm not sure I would return to this site, unless it was improved. The campsite is easy to find, but as has been commented on by other reviewers, the track leading to it is in a terrible state, full of quite deep potholes. We didn't like taking our car down it.

The owners of the site were friendly and helpful.

We'd booked an electric hook up, and the only ones available were on the edge of a very boggy and muddy field - admittedly there had been lots of rain beforehand, but we had to walk through deep mud to get to the facilities.

The toilet and shower block was extremely basic, and could definitely do with improving. I didn't feel that the site represented value for money at all - I've stayed in other sites which much better facilities for the same cost.

Once you get to the village there's lots to do, but it is a 15-20 minute walk away. The local pub does good, reasonable pub food, and the steam train to Whitby is a must.

When we arrived it had been raining heavily all day. The lane to the site from the main road was horrendous. We spent our time avoiding large pot holes. The fields were very muddy and cars were having to be towed out. We were put in an empty field which the sheep had just been moved from, so we were wading though mud and sheep poo all weekend! One of the 'toilet blocks' was a wooden shed with a partition for 2 toilets. The main shower block was dirty and had no separate facilities for male/female. The shower drains were open so when you were in the toilets in the block behind you had their dirty water running past you. On a more positive note the location of the site was perfect, ideal for walks and visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Railay. Overall lovely location but facilities not up to standard for £30 per night.
