A picturesque site with the steam train and the wonderful views. It was the only site we could get on during the bank holiday without booking so were glad to have found it.
However, there were dirty toilets for people on the top fields and at night there was no light! No hot water for the pot wash and no washing facilities, which is ok but at £10 per adult and £5 per child per night was a bit much. Mind the pot holes too on the very long drive.
My son had to move his tent as there were very loud groups near him. Lots of noise until after midnight - no one checked. Could have been a lot better for the price. Lovely location though and right in the centre of Goathland with its pubs and shops.

Gorgeous surroundings and super views. We took the dogs and there is a lovely walk on site down to the railway line. Lovely and peaceful during the day but no one took notice of the 11pm quiet rule.
Basic facilities. We did not need to use these facilities or the shower block as we are self sufficient in a camper van but the campers had to - even if they are basic they should be spotlessly clean!
Quite expensive but I am happy to pay for such a location - though the night before we paid a lot less for similar surroundings and lovely facilities so not comparable with that.

We have visited this site twice now, the first time in a tent which was very pleasant. The most recent being in the touring van. This is a great site for exploring Gathland and surrounding areas. The site is nicely located and easy to find, the toilets and shower block is nice and clean, the water and disposal points are good. The farmer is very accommodating and friendly. If you like the steam trains you can view them from the site. The only downfall I can see is that the EHU's are in the wrong place and not great if it has been raining. Plus you have a job to get a TV or Phone signal. If you can live without these as we did it is a great place to be. Although it is quite a walk into Goathland for anyone like myself who cannot walk too far, the farmer is very accommodating and lets you park your car at the end of the lane as long as it not causing any problems. Two great weekends had at this site. Enjoyed every second.

We stayed at this site on the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. We had initially planned to go to the lakes but the weather forcast for that weekend was terrible, however it looked good for the N Yorks coast. This was the only site we could get on as they don't take bookings. They did assure me that we shouldn't have a problem getting a pitch has they have a couple of overflow fields.
On arrival, after paying, we decided to pitch on one of the main fields. However whilst pitching, the tent next door was joined by a few more couples who decided that they were pitching near their friends. I don't have a problem with this but I do have a problem with the loud, foul mouthed yobs who have no respect for others, especially young children.(We have 2 young girls)
We decided to move to another field, and after packing as we moved one of the owners approached and asked if there was a problem. After our explanation he went straight over and told them in no uncertain terms to watch the language or they were off.
As it turned out it was a blessing in disguise. We moved to the overflow field and pitched at the top over looking the North York. Moors Railway. Stunning views and every now and then a steam train passed by, the kids loved it.
The site itself is very basic, a few showers and toilets and a tap on each field. This is more than made up for by the fab views and surroundings. Just a 5 minute walk takes you into the village where there are a few shops and 3 pubs. The best of these being the Inn on the Moor.
The site is a great location for exploring the north Yorkshire moors and of course you are only a short drive away from the excellent coastal towns of Whitby, Robin Hood's bay etc.
All in all a good, but basic site
We will be back

Great site. All facilities a bit basic, but being improved right now. Very friendly and accommodating people. Get to know Pete, who works around the farm and the campsite. He's really helpful and very capable. One of life's proper diamonds. While we were there he got several campers out of trouble including us. We've been using this camp site for many years now, and we will definitely be going back next year. Goathland is a charming base to explore North Yorkshire with three good pubs. The Inn on The Moor is well worth a visit with good food and well kept beer.

The site had plenty of space and has fantastic views over the N. Yorks steam railway, with trains passing at least every hour. Nice, laid back feel to the place with no restrictive rules that some campsites sometimes have. Having said that, the couple who run the site are very friendly but they came across as being the type who wouldn't tolerate any nonsense.
It is just a 10 minute walk from the village of Goathland which has 3 pubs. We visited the Goathland Hotel (Aidensfield Arms in the T.V. Series Heartbeat) but was disappointing in that we were shuntted into a family room even though we have a 13 and 16 year old (ie Not little toddlers running around the place) when the main bar is very cosy and we would have liked to have had a drink and meal in there (the bar only had 2 other couples in at the time!). The one across the road is much better (Inn On The Moor we think) - very good service and great food plus the kids could play pool in the main bar etc.
Now the down side to the campsite - the toilet facilities are very very basic. We guessed the sink in the communal toilets/shower block (no separate ladies and gents) doubled up as the basin for brushing teeth etc as well as being the washup facility - very unhygenic! We wouldn't have minded so much but for the price - £7 for adults and £3.50 per child - £21 is way too much - £12 p/night per tent would have been closer to the mark.

Stayed for 4 nights. Was made to feel very welcome by the lady that booked us in. This a quite site with basic toilet blocks on top camp field. Shower blocks are a shot 5 min walk from the 2 top fields but they are basic. No electric hook up yet but was a much enjoyed stay. The site is down a half mile dirt track but when you consider the camp entrance is right next to the Goathland hotel (better know as pub in hartbeat) it is right in the middle of the heartbeat village and bout 5 mins from grosmount Train station used in heartbeat and harry potter. So it is a very enjoyable area to stay and for what you pay per night it is well worth it. Will be going back to the site again soon.

The dirt track leading upto the site was very uneven and not lit at all at night. Toilets & showers block was tatty & I didn't like the idea of men & woman sharing the same facilities. If you want a quite relaxing peaceful night don't come here as there is noise all night whether it be fireworks kids or noisy drunken neighbours!(It went on till about 2am) On the plus side the views was amazing. The owners are friendly the goathland arms was great if you want a nice quite pint! overall I did enjoy my time in goathland just wish I could have slept as I am totally exhausted now. Early night tonight for me I think!

I have just returned from this site and overall we were very disappointed.
The facilities are basic, normally this does not bother us because we prefer it to the ones that seem to offer lots of extras.
But for £14 a night for 2 people I would either expect some hot water or/and working toilets.
The toilet block in the main fields( 3 unisex units that were very dirty and no hot water at any time), were closed down after one day. They were completely blocked up and no effort was made to open them up again.
The main shower block was a good 600 yards away and in a pretty poor state as well. It was pretty much impossible to carry dishes etc this far down a rough track and most people did not seem to bother. A round trip of c 3/4 mile makes life a bit hard at times!
All rubbish was collected on each field in an open skip.
The surrounding area and village are great

Spent a pleasant Saturday night at Abbots House.
Booked in a were told to pitch where ever we wanted ,plenty of space and no restriction on pitch size.Lots of large groups with tents grouped together facing each other.
Quite a lively and noisy site with kids buzzing about on bikes etc.
Facilities very basic with one tatty but functional shower block and additional portable loos dotted around with pot washing and drinking water.
Appx half a mile walk along an uneven unlit farm track into Goathland and its three pubs and several shops. Can recommend the food in the Inn on the Moor although it was a little over priced.
Plenty of good walking ,we did the round trip to Beck Hole (Beer stop) then on to Mallyan Spout which was well worth the effort although quite hilly in parts.
Our first camping experience and looking forward to the next one
