We spent a full seven nights at this lovely clean quiet site in the heart of the national park.
Facilities were on the basic side: there is a cold water washup point and three toilets shared by the two main camping fields. However, these were seldom busy.
There is hot water washup, showers and more toilets at the bunkhouse under the bridge. The showers are hot and free!
The fridge for freezing ice blocks, doesn't work properly, we only ended up with slightly cold blocks, and ended up getting our milk and cold stuff each evening for breakfast the next morning, and keeping the coolbox in the shade.
Pitches are level and dry (even in rain). The midges were a bit of a nightmare for me, but my wife and kids weren't bitten (good insect repellent is a must).
We also had moles under the tent, which was great for the kids, watching our kit moving about as the moles ran around squeeking.
It's only 20 minutes drive into Whitby (or about 1 hour by the North York Moors Railway). There's a Co-op in the centre (with a couple of hours free parking if you spend more than £10). There's also a Lidl in the West Cliff area.
For camping stuff, there's a few different clothing stores in Whitby, but Hall & Coates is your best bet for hardware: it was the only place we found that sold the right gas canisters for our lantern.
For a beach day, head to Sandsend rather than Whitby. It's a long sandy beach that is rarely overcrowded, with toilets, cafes and pubs in the village area. Lots of rockpools at low tide at the north of the beach.

Just had 2 days at this site, first time here arrived late morning with no booking needed, was told we could set up anywhere, so we opted for the small backpackers field right next to the steam train track which was the highlight of the campsite, toilets & showers was next door also wash room and small freezer for ice packs.
Toilets and showers was very dirty from the start and was not cleaned during our stay, there was only one sink for pots & pans but more in the upper two fields.
Very Very bumpy single track to the site with deep potholes.
This site could do with updated toilet&showers and the track in sorting out.
Not a child friendly site as there is nothing for them todo.
If ya don't mind roughing it for a few days then this is ok but not a long term stay.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at this site and would definitely return again. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We were running out of camping gas and they went out of their way to help us with this.
Facilities are fine if you are a proper camper and not looking for the more luxurious sites. Everything was clean and well serviced although the showers were a little walk away (not really a problem).
A short walk in to Goathland where you can catch the bus or train into Whitby. When we were there, there wasn't any campsite humbugs who insisted on silence after 10pm.
We went with grown up family and it was good to be able to sit up at night chatting. Owners also provided BBQ facilities. Plenty of space for ball games.
Local pub (Aidensfield Arms)is a little expensive but convenient. Very dog friendly.

We have just spent 2 nights at this site, its a lovely spot. There was no need to book and we turned up about 3 pm on Friday and got a great pitch, no problem. The site was very well laid out, we camped in the large field on the left as you approach the site which had nearby loos, washing up facilities and chemical disposal and drinking water taps nearby. The site was very quiet and the owners were very helpful, its well organised with the owners frequently driving around checking the site. We thought it was great value for money.
Theres plenty of space to pitch and have space around you. The facilities are great, we prefer farm campsites where facilities are in keeping with staying in the country, which this site is.It has facilities to freeze ice packs. The views and the wonderful steam trains passing right near the site are amazing. Its a short walk to the station for wonderful steam train rides to Pickering Whitby and Grosmount. We loved this site we would recommend it to anyone who prefers farm type sites and we will definitely be returning. Well done Abbots Farm.

We have just returned from our first ever family camping trip and we were happy with our choice of Abbots House Farm.
All together we were two families with two boys aged 5, two girls aged 3 and a 5-month-old baby. Abbots House Farm ticked our boxes for a number of reasons.
1) We were assured there was no need to book, which, on a bank holiday weekend was useful. Lots of other sites required a minimum stay, which we didn’t fancy since it was our first trip.
2) The site was fairly level and was next to the North York Moors Railway line.
3) It was a safe distance from Teesside for a quick exit in inclement weather or with unhappy small children.
The lane/track down to the farm is fairly bumpy but it was no problem for our cars to get down. It was also a pleasant walk back along the track to the ‘Aidensfield Arms’ (Goathland Hotel), however a fairly robust pushchair is best. If you are in a Caravan, I’m not sure how easy it would be to take your van down to the reception area in the farm yard area and turn around again. In a car it was no problem.
We easily got adjacent, non powered, pitches (Sunday of Spring Bank Holiday Weekend) on ‘field A’, which was nice and peaceful. The lower part of field A doesn’t catch the sun first thing in the morning, which is good if you want a lie in but could be bad if you want to get your tent dried off quickly. There were three basic toilets with sinks at the end of the field, plus a washing up area, however, there is no hot water in the fields. If you want hot water on tap, you have to go down to the farmyard area, where the showers are. We were quite happy to boil up our own water and just use the sink and drainer.
There is no play area as such, but there was plenty of open field to run around on. There was also entertainment once an hour when we took our little Thomas the Tank engine enthusiasts ‘trainspotting’ in field B. It is an easy walk to Goathland Station from the site, from there you can catch the train to Grosmont (or Whitby at certain times) or Pickering.
The showers were a bit of a trek from our pitch, fairly basic, but on the plus side, they were clean, hot and unlimited as far as I could tell. That was early on a Tuesday morning though. There was a queue on Bank Holiday Monday.
I could see us coming back here again as the owners were friendly, we like visiting the railway and going to Whitby. The only down sides are that you have to be fairly prepared as there didn’t seem to be much in the way of a ‘supermarket’ type shop locally and it isn’t that cheap for a basic site. Happy Camping….

Just spent a week here,This is a great site for exploring Goathland and surrounding areas. Great views overlooking north yorkshire moors and steam railway. Main shower block and toilets a short walk down the lane.
Owner is friendly and if you have any problems talk to Pete who works on the site who will try and sort it, nothing is too much trouble. A few pubs in the village and souvenir shops.
Nice walks through the countryside and nearby streams and waterfalls. Close to Whitby and Pickering.Well worth a visit!

Had a wonderful time here middle of September for two nights. Very well organised and run very professionally. Toilets in upper field are a bit grubby but only to be expected I suppose when camping. Shower block has been refurbished I think since we were last here.
Top field where we were is quite flat but I think the other field is slightly on a hill. So good luck. We were free to find our own pitch which we did with ease and the field is well looked after, grass cut regularly.
The only gripe I have with this field is that everywhere we put a tent peg there were rocks a couple if inches below the surface, which meant it took ages to put up the tent, and loads of bent tent pegs! The farmer regularly patrolled the area and we felt that was ok, it is his property after all! We would definitely be going again!

We have just returned from a weekend stay on this site. As others have said the site is approached along a very bumpy lane that seems to go on forever- but was great for walking the dog along, whilst the sheep glared at us.
We were on an electric pitch which was a little disappointing. There are only 3 electric pitches tucked away behind the shower/toilet block, so felt a little unsociable away from other campers. The pitch was muddy, but I suppose it is the end of the season.
There are 2 toilet/shower blocks next door to each other- both very basic, and nothing to dry your hands with. It looked like they might be in the middle of a refurb of the toilet & shower block.
The steam trains passed by every now and then, which was great.
Overall a nice location, but would prefer to forfeit the electric hookup in order to be on the larger fields in future.

A large camp site in the village of Goathland, heartbeats Adansfield, 5 mins walk to the railway where we could watch the steam trains, we could also se them from our tent.
Whitby was only about ten mins in the car, which is ideal for a 3 year old, we went on the beach a bit
toilets, wash up, free showers and toilet emptying points and plenty of taps around
The field was level and dry, no noisy campers
They also lent us some steps so we could get to our car roof box
We will be going back their again

The campsite it self is quite difficult to find as the trees have grown over the sign but there are clear directions on abbots house farm website.
The track down to the fields is rather pot-holed, but its not far until you reach the bottom. The surroundings are amazing and the train track runs right through the bottom of the site, yet there was no noise on an evening.
The facilities were basic yet not the worst ive seen, and they were reasonably clean. There is also drinking water taps dotted all the way around the site. The farmer was helpful and the fields were in perfect condition to set up the tent.
All in all, I would highly recommend this campsite due to the location and surroundings and would definitely stay there again in the future.
