What made us choose this site is how homely it looked from the photos and we wanted something inland during the out of season periods. I am glad to say the camera never lied, the site was picture perfect with lovely views surrounding and very clean facilities on site especially the toilet and shower block.
The positives are that the site is very clean throughout with plenty of room and local services. Great for dogs as the dog walk suited our two english springers with plenty of room to run, although around the pitches they understandably need to be kept on a lead.
This is a relatively small site run by a team of very hard working people who are always eager to help to ensure your stay is one to remember.
The negatives are almost not worth mentioning, but if we had to think hard then the pot holes in the access road are a challenge and we did have some issues with the power tripping, but in their defence they were very quick to respond and reset the trips.
In conclusion, for the price this is very good for money, the team are very proud of what they have to offer and I must agree, we were sad to leave the site and look forward to return in the near future.

We have just come back from a very enjoyable weekend at Bowdens Crest.
This was our first visit and used it as a base to visit the nearby Bridgwater Carnival, although it is easily within reach of many other attractions.
Everything on the site was spotlessly clean including the Statics, toilet / shower blocks, in fact the whole park! There is a large modern heated toilet / shower block, large games room, bar/restaurant and shop stocking all your essential goods. It is easy to see why it has been finalists in the top 100 sites!
The views over Somerset were superb.
The staff/owners were very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. On the Sunday they easily catered for us all (we were part of a 19 member family group!), the food was delicious and excellent value for money!
By the end of the weekend we really didn't want to leave but we will be back next year in our tourer and can definitely recommend it to others!

The family and dog have just returned from a great weekend break in our folding camper, even with our famous British weather, wet. We arrived in a thunderstorm but the ground coped well.
From the booking onwards it was a pleasant experience. The facilities were always very clean. Customer service was second to none always greeted with a friendly face and in a friendly manner.
The food was excellent and was very reasonably priced. We would gladly return and recommend to friends.

After reading the UK Campsite reviews, we too booked & were down at Bowdens 1st to 6th July.
As everywhere this year, the weather was dreadful - but everything on the site was superb.
The friendliness - nice rustic field on-site for dog-walking - the showers etc were absolutely spotless & the small unobtrusive bar, restaurant & shop were perfect.
Wi-Fi really useful and on high (level!) ground, so TV reception was A1. Enjoyed Wimbledon tennis! Excellent value for money & a local ale on hand-pump - who could want more?
Highly recommended. Most of Somerset attractions accessible & M5 not far, if required!

Spent another week at this top class site. New Wardens Paul & Angela extremely helpful. Toilet block was clean last year but this year you could eat your dinner off the floor - top notch. Owners run the Bar/Kitchen themselves (Ken & Ang)they along with Hazel (in shop/reception), are all so welcoming you feel your part of the family and its only our 2nd visit to the site. REally cannt fault anything - meals Ken cooks are great - I really appreciated his extra effects with our fussy children and my wifes dietry requirements!
The lane is a bit on the narrow side but no worse than if visiting Lake distract or parts of Cornwall.
The Dog loves the space it can run around in the old vineyard and tried to catch the rabbits - didn't manage it though.
The new cats the site has are lovely, the kids loved 'Pixie & Masie', but top prize has to go to the tortise - 'peepbow' and bowpeep' its great to see things like this in a great surroundings - whilst sipping a cool local ale! what more can you ask. Just wished we lived nearer and had a seasonal pitch.
Hopefully will go back later this year.

We chose this site based on previous reviews, mostly the '10 points wishlist'. I don't want to write an essay so will put the pros & cons in order.
Pros:
Each pitch has it's own water & electric supply
The Toilet/Shower facility was toasty warm
The owners were extremely friendly & helpful
We were the only touring unit on site at the time, so had no problems with crowding.
Cons:
It is a bit out of the way & when we were there there was a construction site along the lane leading to the campsite, which made for a very muddy van.
Our biggest problem is with the electric supply. On arrival, we were issued with a standard leaflet that states you are not allowed to use any electric appliance that has a heating element, ie heater, toaster, kettle etc. I find this to be a major problem when you are camping in the middle of November! At £12. 50 per night it may sound cheap but you can stay at a Caravan Club in low season for the same price & get a much higher standard.
Toilets/Showers were not cleaned whilst we were there (doubt they had been cleaned for a while cause there was a disposable nappy in the bin when we arrived (we were the only ones on the site) and it was still there when we left, as were the spiders!
We would probably return because the owners were so helpful.

Having spent a week at Bowdens Crest and can only agree with the previous comments, a small but very well run site. Clean, tidy and friendly. The toilet and showers were very clean never busy.
Food was good and okay price wise although the bar selection is a little limited bit it is only a small bar area. The view from the bar area is a good as the other people have said. My only whinge really is the playing field which is on a steep hill and playing ball games is a very tiresome affair if you have to go and get the ball back. There is some chap who walks around the campsite at about 7ish every evening and tells you off if you are playing football in the camping area even if you are only 5 years old.
A good value for money site and the 2 people running it work extremely hard so be patient.
Oh yeah, my son asked me to mention the milk shakes as they are very good.

Just returned from our first visit to Bowdens Crest and definitely won't be our last! A lovely peaceful site, very well maintained as were the facilities, I even enjoyed a lovely long soak in the bath on Saturday morning! Ken directed us on a lovely walk through the countryside into Langport which was great. Lovely couple who run the site, really chatty & welcomed us and our dog Molly. Great Sunday lunch too, would definitely recommend the lamb shanks! A perfect weekend retreat! Can't wait to return.

We have just returned from a family weekend break at Bowdens Crest. Arrived about 6.30pm on friday evening. Greeting was friendly, the lady knew who I was and exactly where to send me.
Hardstanding pitch in a lovely spot. Facilities Clean and well organised. We used the well equipped family bathroom as we have an 18 month old son. He enjoyed the play area, chickens and the 'Ginger Cat' as he politely called him.
Would use this site again. Very well run and very well priced.

I have a mere 10 campsite wishes, and am very glad to say that Bowden's - the first campsite ever - fulfils all ten.
1) Don't charge us a fortune. Bowden's charged us £10 per night for 2 adults, 3 kids, a ridiculously large American RV towing a car, full hook up and water at our pitch. 2) Wifi: its free here, for as many laptops as you have. 3) Don't rip us off with the extras. Showers at Bowden's are free, laundry is reasonable. 4) Have the things a camper needs, like WiFi and a book swap. Here is the most prolific bookswap I have ever seen, along with DVD swap and a place to sell, donate or swap your unwanted goods. 5) Give us a View. From the kids playground and the bar/restaurant, there is a 30 mile view across the Somerset levels. Beautiful; perfect. 6) Don't park people in each others' laps. This was half term, but we had acres of space and privacy. 7) Don't lock the toilets! Not only are the toilets at Bowden's open, lit and heated 24-7 but they are immaculately clean and have private baths. This is the ultimate in luxury. 8) Don't be too rule bound. At Bowden's, the rules are simple. You don't disturb your neighbours too late, but your kids can cycle, play football, fly kites and do whatever else kids need to do without fear of a reprimand. 9) Cater for the kids. Here, there is a wonderful adventure playground with excellent view, an excellent indoor games room complete with pool table, TV and heating for those rainy days. Our kids felt welcomed. 10) Don't stick your campsite 5 miles out of town but oh-so-conveniently in the middle of a council estate.
Bowden's is up a small lane high on the Somerset levels, but within an easy walk of Langport (which has Tescos) and the Old Pound Inn with excellent food. In season, there is an on-site bar and restaurant which would probably be excellent too. Yes, the roads are narrow but we are 40 foot long taking our tow car into account and we made it up here OK. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's worth it. And if I as a female can negotiate the lanes in 10 tonnes of vehicles in the dark, then anyone can.
The staff here were very friendly and helpful, the facilities were immaculate and we extended our stay many, many times. I can honestly not fault Bowden's on any aspect. What a perfect place for an overnight stopver or an extended holiday!
We were within an easy drive of Glastonbury, Cribbs Causeway, the M5, the Jurassic Coast, Exeter, Taunton, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. Tescos, open till 10pm weekdays and Saturday was very handy just down the road in Langport; next door is a dog kennels and on the other side a riding stables catering to both adults and children.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough, and boy have we seen a lot of sites!
