Just returned from a weeks stay at Bowdens.
Excellent site.Toilet block/showers modern, clean and plenty of hot water, bliss!
Ken & Ang are excellent hosts.
Pleasant bar, with separate dining area overlooking Somerset levels (stunning views). Good food, (Sunday roast a must).
Large well equipped Games room (large choice of books if you want a read).
Wi-fi limited to main buildings area, but as it was free no complaints.

The views from this site are amazing. The toilets and showers were good.
We found the food in the restaurant good. However I agree with another reviewer, smoking is definitely not allowed any where near the toilets or restaurant, you do have to go to the bottom of the garden area. I am a non smoker so it didn't bother me but one lady was not happy at being told to move and went back to her caravan.
The only fault was that when we arrived and enquired about another of our party putting up a gazebo by their motorhome, we were told that gazebos were not allowed. Imagine our surprise to find campers opposite us erecting 2 gazebos! No one from the site made them take them down either.

Visited during a wet and windy half term. We chose the site thinking it would be an ideal base to visit the many attractions in the area, in practise it turned out to be a significant drive to actually get anywhere!
The pitch was on a grass field, we enquired on booking about a hard standing and were assured they had lots what they failed to mention was that they were all occupied by seasonal vans!
We had a muddy trek to the pot holed road to get to the toilet block. The toilet block itself was obviously new and very well appointed, why then were they not cleaning it and taking care of their investment puzzled us greatly. A filthy mop and bucket was left unused in the corner of each block for the whole three days we were there and it was obvious by the grubby toilets that no cleaning was taking place.
The bar was shut (we were forewarned) as the daughter and son in law of the old couple were on holiday, we suspect that cleaning the toilets is also one of their usual duties. The games room was very good though and the shop when open stocked the basics.
Access to the site was difficult as it involved ascending a steep narrow road and along a single track to the site which made passing very difficult. We don't anticipate going back.

The site had very good facilities.Clean, well-lit buildings with everything working and well presented.
The games room/library was great and remarkably well heated.Even hot!
The restaurant had lovely views and the bar was well stocked.
The ladies on the site were very hospitable and friendly.
Dogs were free of charge and had full access.
Negatives-
The camping ground was nice and spacious, however we returned back after one evening to find that the new campers had been directed to pitch within meters of our tent.A little odd and unnecessary when the campsite only had 2 other campers in a large field?
The ground is really quite difficult to peg into. The top soil is fine but after about 10cm is is pretty much a quarry of rocks. So you definitely need a good mallet!
The bar had very little atmosphere as the general evening's entertainment is football results non-stop and no music.Talking in the actual bar area will only result in the volume of the tele being increased for the footie!
The food is really burger van type quality. We didn't feel it was particularly great value either.
The site is VERY anti-smoking which as a non-smoker is fine with me, however it is advisable to smoke only at the bottom of the beer garden in the designated area to avoid confrontation.

We stayed here for 4 nights. There are great views looking towards Taunton and the surrounding area. When we arrived we were greeted by an older lady who didn't seem to know where we were to be camping. After waiting for 15 minutes an older man showed us to our pitch. He was complaining about everybody turning up at the same time, and having to find room for tents. This made us feel as though we were in the way. There is a new games room on the site and also new showers which include a family bathroom. The shop is not 'open' all day, you have to ring the bell and wait for the lady to come out of her house to open up. There is a play area for the children, but it is on quite a slop. The field beside the play area is also sloping a lot, which makes playing football impossible. The surrounding are is very nice, with Street not very far away. A great place to get children's shoes.

We stayed here for 3 nights / 4 days in July 2008 although the roads getting to the campsite are some of the smallest I have come across we really enjoyed our stay. The owners were pleasant and welcoming. The site facilities are fantastic, although the only downside was that all of the hair dryers were broken which made for a cold night in our tent due to the wet hair. Other people in the caravan were very nice and you were left totally alone by the owners, some other campers were rather loud, but no noise from the kennels down the road which was surprising. The views from the bar are amazing and so is the surrounding area, we travelled to Beer on our last day which is only an hour away and cheddar on our 1st day. Very good links to the surrounding areas beaches and attractions. Would recommend this place to anyone as it is the cleanest campsite a girl could wish for.
Owners comment: After reading the latest review we have been and checked the hairdryers as we were not aware that there was a problem. We did find that the 2 in the bathrooms were not working correctly and this has now been sorted out, but the other 2 we are unable to find fault with. As for noisy campers - if ever there is any problem please let us know - if we are unaware of a problem we are unable to do anything about it. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

We have just returned from Bowdens Crest. It is a super site. We had a premium pitch with eletric hook up. The camping field has all the EHU pitches around the outside and the others in the middle. The campsite is flat and has super views from the bar and playground.
The facilities on site were great. The shower and toilets were faultless. Very clean and lots of hot water. They have a family bathroom where you can bath the kids and a disabled bathroom where I showered my twins at the same time.
There was a laundry on site with three washing machines and an area with rotary driers to hang out on a good day. There are tumble dryers but they take a long time to dry things and cost £1 for 30 mins so could be expensive.
The camp shop had lots of basics such as milk, bread and CIDER! We got the kids a take out one night which was very good quality and even came with a toy.
This site is ideal for dog owners as there is no charge for dogs and there is a kennels next door if you want to board your dog for the day to give you more freedom on your day trip. There is some noise at times from the kennels but we didn't fint it a problem.
We stayed for 7 nights and could easily make it more as we did not see half the things we wanted to see. We visited fossil beaches in dorset, cider farms and several other beaches for the girls. The beaches towards weston super mere do tend to be quite muddy and the sea vanishes at low tide! We were recommended weymouth as a good beach for children but we never actually got there. Other places to we wanted to go to but didn't include, wooky hole, cheddar gorge, local potteries and lots of national trust sites.
We will definitely return to this site. We received a warm welcome from the owners and nothing was too much trouble. The site is small and friendly and my children loved the play area and the various animals around the place eg ducks chickens cats.Even a couple of tortoises!

Wow what a great site, well laid out and well kept. The views across the Somerset Levels are fantastic.
The site is a 20 minute drive from Taunton which has lots of individual shops as well as the usual high street names. Langport itself is quite small but there is a Tesco which has everything you might need.
We visited the bar and had a meal there, portions were plenty big enough even for the most ravenous amongst us and were excellent value too. This is not one of those rip of sites in fact the prices charged in the bar and the shop were very reasonable indeed.
I have to say that Ang and Ken are great hosts and made us very welcome indeed. Even giving our son a birthday card as he was 13 whilst we were there.
The showers/toilet block are probably the best you will come across. There is a laundry room that is well equipped (including the use of laundry baskents). They even have an area with rotary washing lines so that you don't have to tumble dry when the weather is good.
The site has access to a wooded area and an old vineyard which are nice to walk in. The children enjoyed making dens in the wood and playing in the games room.
This is one to add to your list of must visit, there is so much to do in the area and the site is a brilliant place to be based

I agree with everything the previous two posts said and would like to add the following:-
There is a family bathroom with a full sized bath (bliss)
Dogs are allowed in the Mad Hatters Bar (brilliant)
Pitches are arranged around the perimeter of the camping field so they feel very spacious (lovely)
There are two dog friendly pubs close by and this campsite is very central so very good for sightseeing. We went over to Devon and down to Dorset while we were there.
We will definitely be returning to this campsite. Ang and Ken are very nice friendly people and we really enjoyed our stay.

Just back from seven nights at Bowdens. This site must be amongst the most friendly site we have visited. The toilets are pristine, as are the showers which were also easy to use.
The toilet block isnew this year and is divided into four units, ladies, family, disabled and gents.
The games room has a pool table, bar football, anda free library, plus there is a children's play area.
The bar and restaurant is first class, the food represents excellent value, cooked by Ken.
There are outstanding views across the Somerset Levels from the grassed area behind the restaurant, it must be one of the best views in Somerset.
Although there are pubs/restaurants in Langport and the surrounding area, there is no need to leave the site, its all there for you.
One suggestion, would it be possible to make a trail/path through the woods, this would really round things off?
An excellent site, well run with probably the best facilities in the South West, thanks for making our stay so enjoyable, we will be returning.
