Went to Bowden’s 2 years ago and were pleased with the facilities available apart from the shower and toilet block that needed to be updated, we were told that there was planning permission in for this. So as we enjoyed our stay we watched the website for the updates to happen.
What can we say - we went back for the last 2 weeks of August and what a fantastic improvement it has 3 showers in the each of the men’s and ladies toilets and there is also a separate family and disabled room, even though we were there for a busy Bank Holiday not once did we have to queue to use the showers.
The new games room was a big hit with our son, enjoying regular pool games with friends he made at the site including Jack, Angie and Ken’s son.Even though we had not been there for 2 years Ken, Angie, Hazel & Les remembered us and made us very welcome again. We enjoyed several evenings in the Mad Hatters Club Bar & Murphy's Restaurant, indulging in some of Ken’s meals from the menu. We had a terrific 2 weeks at the site and are looking to return in the future.

We have had a great 12 months on a seasonal pitch at Bowdens Crest, I have made some good friends there who I hope to keep in touch with. The only reason we are not taking a pitch this year is I needed to find somewhere a little closer to home as it's around two and a half hours to get there. The site its self is good, very safe for kids (my grandson really enjoyed himself when he came with me last year) Angie, Ken, Hazel and Les are great always willing to help if your stuck or struggling.I also had the good fortune to be there when June and Mike were there (the previous wardens) Mike was a mine of information on places of interest and how to get there. I agree the shower block is a little dated but I have always used the shower block and never had any problems but there are plans under way for it to be replaced in April 2007. There is also a new games room, library and TV room under construction. I am sad to be leaving but hope to return in the summer for a couple of long weekends to keep up with my new found friends

We booked this site after finding it on here, I must say we were a bit disappointed. On the whole the camp is well maintained. The little shop and Mad Hatters bar is very clean and the views are stunning. The owners are friendly and helpful. But the showers and toilets were cramped and must say dirty.  They are very dated and need a complete overhaul, which considering the bar shop and laundry room have been done. Was surprised this hadn't been done.
The rates are reasonable.
Another draw back in is the camp site is situated next to a dog kennel so get used to a lot of barking, didn't disturb us through the night though. And yes you do need rock pegs.
There is nothing to do in the immediate area but is a good Central place if you want to visit places of interest while we were there we travelled to The Air fleet museum in yeovilton, Clark's shopping village, and Monkey world.
We did find a gem of a pub called the Pound inn, which is in the next village turn right at the bottom of the camp site and carry on until you find it, the food there was superb, Really hot delicious and the food from the specials menu was really lovely and the home made puddings to die for.

Nice relaxing place, enjoyed seeing the small animals especially the tortoise. Traditional family site not a lot to do except relax. Great views.

BAD POINTS: Nowhere is within walking distance so you need to drive if you go off site. Distant sound of dogs barking. Had to move my car to car park as kids enjoyed football in the camping/touring area and lost count how many times it hit our van and car. We did go on a Bank Holiday so lots of children were there.

This is a gem of a campsite! We (2 adults, 2 children, 1 tent) stayed there from May 2nd till May 7th. The campsite is high on a hill with breathtaking views, is very clean and well maintained and is run by very friendly, helpful people. Their fees are very reasonable compared to others in the area and children up to 18 and dogs are free, they are considered members of the family.

The shop is stocked with essentials (even the neccesary rock pegs), there is a games room, a seperate laundry and a separate washing up room complete with free fridge and freezer. They have a restaurant providing good food and a bar serving very reasonable beer. The nearest local pub is a fair walk away, and given the vigilance of Somerset police, it's much easier to stay on site in the evenings.
There is always plenty of hot water and the loos and showers were always spotless.

The only very small drawback is the layer of stone a few inches below the surface, take a hammer and rock pins if camping.
I can honestly say that in many years of camping, I have yet to find a better site. Tony Green Netherlands May 2006

Lovly site, very friendly people, my sister and I arrived late for the Bonfire weekend but no matter as some friendly people help put our tent up and we would like to thank them for their help. We had a great time (this was our 1st visit to a meet) it will not be our last Thank You for making our trip well worth it.

Fabulous Site, fabulous Owners... We have been several times now, and have already booked up for events for 2006, I would not even hesitate in recommending this site... and have indeed done so several times already. Ken & Angela, do everything humanly possibly to make the site welcomming and the food friendliness of the site is unrivaled, I challenge anyone to find a more welcomming site.

One final comment... As a "regular" I can confirm there are TWO SHOWERS in each block, not one as previously stated, and although dated, they are ALWAYS clean. Look forward to seeing you all again soon

Stayed here for one night on the way from Stonehenge to Cornwall. Great site, the tent area is nice and flat and was fairly quite when we were there. There is a shop selling a good variety of essentials and local cider! There is a nice bar that does food and the views from the beer garden are lovely. The owners are very friendly and it was reasonably priced. However the toilets and showers are dated and theres only one shower for women and one for men. But they are building a new shower block and asking for suggestions on what is required so once that is built it will be great. Nice site I'd definatly go again.

Beautiful site with lovely views. The pitches are level and well drained - you do need rock pegs the ground is very hard and stony. The bar, playground and laundry are very well presented and clean and tidy but unfortunately I can't say the same about the toilets and showers, they were dirty (apparently the mens were worse than the ladies with rings of dirt in the sinks, and showers that my husband was keen to avoid using - we went swimming and used the showers at the leisure centres.) There are notices saying that they are due to refurbish the facilities but I have no problem with old facilities just dirty ones. This was the only minus point to the site and it was a shame. I would definitely return when the new facities are in place.

Can I just say Thank you to our wonderful Hosts at Bowdens.

They very bravely agreed to allowing myself and 10 other girlies onto their campsite for my best friends Hen Party.

The owners were absolutely fantastic, the campsite is run by a family and they welcomed us with open arms from start to finish. The entire campsite were incredibly friendly and reguarly joined in the fun we had.

The layout and facilities provided are excellent. and the view from the restuarant (which we sadly only had time to notice on the last morning) was out of this world. The only niggle would be the dated shower block, which is however being renewed for next year/

On our final morning Bowdens laid on an absolutely stunning spread for us all, they kept us fully stocked with fluids to nurse our hangovers and a lovely cooked breakfast. The most touching however of all their efforts was a mention on the local radio station where they wished Kelly (the bride to be) and her hens all the best... absolutely fantastic

All thats left to say now.... same time, same place next year girls???
