Stayed at this site recently with family who have a seasonal pitch. Based on what I am told they are paying in fees, the facilities do not match up to these costs. The shower was good and warm but the whole block did not feel clean, and the smell from the drains is unacceptable.
On the whole I did not feel there was a decent standard of cleanliness, there were cobwebs, stray hairs, things other people had left in the showers, mouldy duckboards, and even the hand wash dispenser button was filthy.
Great location for touring York, coast etc but need to up their game with the facilities. I don't mind cheap and cheerful, but I do mind unclean.

Stayed 2 nights at Fangfoss with friends (4 adults, 4 kids aged between 13 and 9). The site pretty much lived up to the previous reviews on this site.
Facilities on site were ok, but the shower / toilet block are a bit tired looking and really in need of an update. Having said that the showers were free and were fine when I used them.
The bins could have been emptied a bit more often (or more bins provided) as they were quite full whilst we were there.
There were a lot of seasonal caravans at the site, most of which were empty when we got there (arrived May Bank Holiday Monday, left Wednesday). It did feel a bit claustrophobic on the first night (the two tents adjacent to ours left on Tuesday and it was just as well that the caravans were largely empty.
One thing that we didn't like was that our pitch was directly under one of the 3 / 4 site security lights that were on all through the night. It would have been nice to have them switched off at 11am.
We met Simon (who runs the site with his partner Jo) who was friendly and helpful and supplied us with a bit of useful local knowledge.
There is quite a lot of competition in the York area and we'd probably opt to try for a different site next time we are over that way. Overall, it was pleasant stay but there was nothing to make us want to give this sit first refusal.

Stayed for a long weekend over the bank holiday. Family of 23 fairly good weather on a sheltered site. Mostly seasonal caravans who had massive plots all fenced off. Felt like a bit of a them and us thing. Like we were on their site. Very little room for tents only about ten, boy did they squash them on.
With little room to park cars. Only room for one car to drive past the front of the tent. Now to the play area. If you had the right pitch you can see it from your tent but we were deceived by the pictures of it as they must have been taken some time ago as it is run down and sad looking now, you know the type of thing swing frame without a swing, get the picture.
Showers were hot and free but grubby and needed updating. Only one drain at the end so if you got that shower and it was busy everyone elses minging water washed round your feet into the grid. Friendly owners, basic but expensive shop. Not enough electric hook ups for all the tentsand too far away from each tent. We had a 30 foot lead and still needed a longer one.
Dishwashing facilities were adequate but not to my standards of hygiene. Why do owners think because your camping you don't mind grubby, come on guys take a look at some of the better sites

We stayed here over the Easter weekend. Our pitch was right next to the road along the side if the site. That alarmed us at first because we don't like road noise. However, we got used to it and the noise stopped on the whole, during the night. The location of this site is lovely. We had lots of nice walks from the site and it is perfectly located for a trip into York. Really easy access to the park and ride. We also visited The Deep in Hull and Eden Camp at Malton - all within easy reach.
My main complaint with this site is the large number of seasonal pitches, the residents of which create little fortresses with windbreaks and gazebos outside of their caravans. We really struggled with some people on nearby seasonal pitches who sat outside their caravans drinking and making a lot of noise until late at night (actually the small hours). Eventually, after two nights we complained to the owner of the site, late one evening. To his credit, he spoke to the 'residents' concerned. The next night, they were much quieter.
Facilities at this site are basic but ok. That's fine, although the ladies block smelt pretty bad the whole time.
Our kids loved the shop and the play park, and generally had a very nice time.
All in all, this has the potential to be a really nice place. We won't go back, because of the huge number of seasonal pitches, but it has plenty to recommend it, if you don't mind that.

Well, I am in turmoil about this review. Having read the other reviews in this forum I can Identify with many of their comments.
The main points I would like to mention are.
The location for York is very good.
It is mainly a season pitch site making the weekends very busy and a little noisy (but not unfriendly).
The showers/toilets/shop/park are dated and need some work doing on them.
We must have been on holiday at the same time as the cleaner as we would swear the toilets were not cleaned all week.
The most annoying thing about this site is that with a little effort and a few cans of paint and a cleaner/tlc the site could be first class!
Would we visit again? Possibly but only after reading a few reviews saying that things had improved.

Just back from our first visit to this site. We had a great time. The site was well laid out and very family oriented-there were a lot of families there for the bank holiday so it wasn't exactly quiet, but given we had 3 kids as well it didn't bother us at all :) everyone seemed to settle down around 10pm which was great.
Upon arrival we couldn't find our pitch-turned out another tent was taking up ours as well their own. The owners were really helpful and came and turned the tent round so we could fit in. There was also a bit of an ant problem but again the helpful owner gave us some ant powder to put down. The only negatives are the facilities which are dated and very basic and that the site in general was a bit tired looking. It almost looked like it was at the end of season rather than the beginning. We have paid cheaper for far better facilities. Also it wasn't really ideal for young toddlers-the showers didn't come off the wall and the tiles made me quite nervous to wash the baby as they were old and really slippy. There is also no fridge or freezer so had to buy food daily.
The day we were due to pack up it rained heavily-we decided to leave the tent on site for a couple of weeks as we wanted to visit york again. This was only £2 a night which was great and we've booked in for a 2 night break :)
This site is ideal for a york trip as a handy place to bed down-its definitely not luxury but is adequate enough for weekend trips.

We arrived in the usual camping weather-very wet. We were advised to stay close to the shop/reception as it was dryer and looking later at the field opposite the toilet blocks it did look quite muddy. The pitch was very level with EHU and water very close. Our pitch was very protected and even though it was next to the road through the site very quiet.
The toilets were in need of an update and perhaps a little bit more heating on a chilly April morning. However I was very happy putting up with slightly shabby but spotlessly clean bathroom because the showers were great. The cubicles were a good size especially for those of us with young grubby children. The shower was piping hot and I never had to queue or wait.
The little shop/reception was ok and their always seemed someone around to help. My children loved the little play park and exploring the woodland around the site. When they found the pond that was when the washing machine and dryer came in handy!
The site had quite a few seasonal pitches and it was these that caused the only problem for us. A group of children had gone ‘lord of the flies’ and seemed to spend a lot of time unsupervised. After several incidents I had a word with the site manager and she was very quick to sort out the situation.
The site is ideally suited to explore York and we really enjoyed Jorvik, Dig and the open top bus tour was really interesting. However for value for money Eden Camp was a fantastic day out.
A great site and we would return.

Have just returned from this site, which is mainly seasonal pitches. Very quiet as week before half term but weekends busy with lots of children who play among the caravans and in the trees.
Very basic. Only three showers in the ladies which was fine as hardly any one there. Facilities very dusty with loads of cobwebs, money seems to have been spent on playground and grass cutting. Lighting poor at night. Good dog walk.
Weren't bothered by the owners in fact never saw them. Shop very basic.

Just got back from a long weekend at Fangfoss. Location was perfect for us to visit York using the Park and Ride and go to the village festival that was on.
The site itself was good, and even though it was busy we never felt crowded. We pitched on the main camping field with a mix of caravans, motorhomes and other tents.
Good facilities for us tents, a washing up area with 3 sinks, washer and dryer.
Toilets and showers ok, cleaned often, and lots of hot water.
Will visit again when we come back to York, as we did not see everything we wanted to this time.

We booked Fangfoss as we love York and Yorkshire. We thought the location was best suited for travel to the city and other places in the area. Upon arrival I checked in to a very simple reception area and we were given our pitch. We asked to be by the platform which is near the entrance.
First impressions ok but we soon found many things that were not so good. The showers whilst good for flow were old. The washing up area was similar.
The general layout was fair but sadly we had some heavy rain and the site quickly flooded in several places. As we were close to the entrance we were ok but many others were not so lucky. Not the sites fault but worth bearing in mind.
We had a tap next to the pitch which was sadly loose on the wall and only needed new screws, a five minute job!
Overall we found the owners friendly as were the other people on site but the lack of attention to detail and simple cleaning means we will not return. Shame as the site has plenty of character and charm.
