This is a fairly secure site with electric key access in to / out from the field. The field is open and exposed so think about door positioning when locating your unit. Caravans are quite closely spaced, some look like they haven't moved for years.

Checking in seemed a long and complicated affair - I was glad I was front of the queue. Quite why it takes so long is unclear especially as most of the detail is taken at the time of booking, not on arrival.

At the time of my visit there were a number of highway contractors and other workers living in caravans on the site so there were traffic movements day and night as the guys went off to or came back from work. This is ideal for them but it may not suit holiday visitors wanting a more relaxed regime.

The toilet and shower block leave a lot to be desired. The lights in the gents loo are activated by motion sensor which is fine until you've been sat contemplating life for a couple of minutes and then it all goes dark. A quick dance around the cubicle usually ensures the lights come on again but it is a bit disconcerting when it first happens and positively annoying at future instances.

The shower block could be a health hazard. There are four showers in the gents block, all served by one 4 inch domestic fan which is full of fluff. Consequently the walls and ceiling are covered in condensation meaning that your towels and clothes get soaked even before you get wet. Then there's the taps - press on types (which is fine) but with no means of controlling temperature. So that means luke warm showers. Unlike other sites, there is no step in the floor so all the floor gets wet; mud and detritus from shoes then gets into the shower area and your clean feet are now dirty again. I'm not very knowledgeable about hygiene but this place positively looks unhygienic.

Even the sink taps are badly thought out, again press on types, but they shoot out water at a great rate and then switch off after a few seconds. So it's difficult to wash without getting everywhere soaked trying to capture this great rush of water before it switches off.

The local pub is OK, simple food but expensive. Suggest you book in advance - the nights I was in there were only about 20 other people but it still took over an hour to get food.

This is a rural site so to get anywhere needs a vehicle. Andover is OK, Salisbury and Winchester much nicer with more attractions.

Overall - for the money - very poor. Without the use of the shower and toilet I wouldn't want to pay any more than GBP £6 a night.

Stayed here bank holiday weekend. Site was wonderful - views amazing.

Owners very friendly. Toilets and showers always spotless and although swimming pool was unheated, it did not stop our three daughters loving it along with the pub garden playground.

The electronic gate was brilliant, very easy to leave key card in box by reception when we left rather than having to wait to give it to someone. There was a car boot sale in field opposite on Sunday and bank holiday Monday.

All in all an amazing site, warm and welcoming we can't wait to visit again.

The only slight downside was lack of site shop-not really near any local shops - so bit tricky if you run out of milk !

Nice site with a good pub. Little bit too 'serious' - lots of rules. There were lots of caravans that appeared to be permanent - also a lot of workers from the nearby building site were staying, so we were woken up at 6 by them leaving for work. Toilets and showers good, nice and clean. No place really for kids to play although there is a nice pool. Nice views across fields and trees. I would recommend this site to older couples with no children.

This is a lovely little site with stunning views. Whilst being a small site, it has everything you need and more - even a swimming pool. Gated entry means the kids can run around to their hearts content and there is also a playground for them. I would recommend this site to anyone wanting a relaxing getaway and will certainly visit again.

Spent a lovely, although windy, couple of nights at Wyke Down this weekend.

Excellent facilities at this site, toilets, showers and washing up areas all seemed brand new and were always spotless. Only a suggestion but a fridge/freezer to store milk etc and re-freeze ice packs would have been welcome as there isn't a shop on site to buy milk for brekkie!

Staff were really welcoming and happy to accommodate our needs. Our pitch had lovely views over the fields and was a good size.

Great pub on site with a good sized beer garden where the kids play area is located. Keeps everyone happy!

Sadly the pool wasn't open on our visit but it looked great and something we will come back to take advantage of.

We visited Whitchurch (10 mins away) where there is a mini co-op and a mini tesco. Would recommend The Red House on London Street for a pub lunch - excellent grub and super garden with play area for the kids.

In all, a great campsite which suited our needs and was very reasonably priced. Would visit again.

Site was very neat and tidy. Restricted reception hours also affected us, as we travel by bicycle and are also impacted by the weather and the availability of food to buy for our dinner. At least there was a way to put our key deposit on a credit card, so that we could return the key early the following morning, before reception hours. The tent sites were very much 'out in the open, ' which can be difficult during windy weather. A few trees or hedges would help cut down road noise, too.

This is our second stop on this lovely site and confirmed our thoughts that this really is a relaxed place to stretch out in the sun. Only negative I have is that we had to queue at the reception window for nearly half an hour in a chilly wind, while people were checked in. I can understand the staff having to check people in if they’ve just arrived, but everyone I had spoken to had pre-booked with details and registration numbers etc, so why they cant simply have a “welcome” bundle to collect and reduce the waiting time. It works well on other sites I’ve visited, so maybe the management could consider re-viewing this part of the business.

I’m still impressed with the electric gate that offers that added security to the site. The grass was tidy and cut short, but was still left on the ground after cutting and was soon walked inside the motorhome to mess up the carpets. Seemed no matter how much wiping of feet, it would still migrate inside. The showers were clean and warm as usual, but the floor remained socking wet which meant the risk of soggy clothes as you try to put them on, maybe the choice of boards could be an option and the soggy trouser legs could be avoided.

The site was peaceful, quite and bathed in sunshine for the stay which added to the holiday atmosphere and allowed us to top up our tans. The waste facilities were very good, with plenty of bins for rubbish, including recycle bins for consideration. Black water disposal was adequate and presented no smells, but is in the open, so attempting to empty and washout any cassettes/toilets in the rain would be a soggy experience and mean cassettes would need to be dried, or put back in caravans/motorhomes wet, adding to the risk of interior dampness and smells.

The swimming pool was an added favourite for the other campers and looked well maintained and very clean, so I can see why the kids and parents love the facility. All in all a fantastic site and represented good value for money and we’ll be back for sure as it’s on the doorstep for weekend breaks.

Stayed for a one night stop-over in early September. We found the site to be well kept and very clean. Facilities are very good and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The pub attached to the site we found to be excellent both in terms of beers and food on offer. Prices very reasonable. We would recommend this site without reservation. We will be returning in the future. Just hope we'll be able to stop longer next time!

Excellent site, even after lots of rain the chalk site was still dry. The facilities are impressive and the attached pub is very good when open. Only gripe is check in, closed 4 till 6 even on a Friday. I had to leave work much earlier than I wanted to make check in before 4 or it would mean a 2 hour wait. Just doesn't make sense to me and could make me think twice in the future. The museum of army flying was really good nearby and great just to have a coffee and watch the planes take off and land.

Restricted reception hours and the inability to pitch first (due to a security gate), before paying just after at 6 pm was a real problem for me, as I was staying here for just for one night to attend an evening event nearby. I had to plan my entire day around their reception opening times! Even during the listed opening hours, the reception looked closed (lights off, no one inside) so I called at the house attached to the reception, and got short shrift for doing so! A simple sign at the reception could have overcome this problem.

Very clean facilities, but unusually, no bin in the washroom. There is a separate area for non electric hook-up tent camping, which is nice if like me, you don't want to camp next to TV's and fridges being used in tents (you can hear them through tents and they can ruin a peaceful night).

There are no numbered pitches in the non-hook up camping field, the ground was good and the site owner kept the area litter free. The field is near a road however, and the morning and evening road noise was noticeable from a tent. Overall, a tidy site, but the inflexible pitching/reception arrangements are unhelpful to the customer.
