The best thing about this site is the lovely views over the countryside. The owners are very friendly and welcoming too.
There is a small play area in the pub garden which is accessible from the site at all times. Not enough equipment to keep my kids amused for long though.
A few people were using the on site pool, but it looked a bit too chilly for us.
The grass on site had got quite long with all the recent rain and when it was cut it wasn't collected by the mowing machine and trod everywhere.
The toilet block is small, basic and clean (apart from all of the grass cuttings being trod in).
The road that runs along one perimeter of the site is fairly busy (especially on a Sunday morning when a massive car boot is held in the fields opposite the site). The road is also frequently used by large lorries going back and forth to the nearby water cress farm.
As our stay progressed we became hemmed in by new arrivals. The pitches are not clearly marked / separated and people were pitching 'creatively' to make the most of the views. This left us with a view on the last day of a trailer tent parked broadside across the front of our caravan about 12 feet away.
Despite these niggles we enjoyed our stay and found it to be a tranquil site with a nice atmosphere.

We spent a long weekend at this site as my partner had a racing day booked at Thruxton and the racetrack is only 7 miles away. An ideal stopover if you are travelling South West as the site is close to the A303. Also lots to do in the surrounding area.
Wyke Down is a lovely clean site, well drained, fairly level and with beautiful views but it is let down by the toilet block which is clean but very basic and only has two showers for the men and two in the ladies'. My experience of the showers was either a scalding hot drizzle or a freezing cold splash, obviously when other people were using water. This did not go down well with my 6 year old daughter!
It was great having a pub within a few paces of our pitch, with a garden and play area for the kids. (By the way, the play area was the only one for the campsite, which is ok as long as you don't mind your children off and playing in the pub garden.) The food in the restaurant was lovely but a little on the pricey side.
There is no on-site shop, but a Tesco and Sainsburys are only a couple of minutes drive away.
The men in our party enjoyed using the driving range and the kids loved seeing the chickens and the young calfs in the next field. The swimming pool was supposed to be open but did not look like it had been used in a while. It would be worth checking with the site that it is open if this is part of the reason for staying there.
The road that runs alongside the campsite was not too busy until the Monday morning when it became quite noisy. There seem to be a lot of permanent residents on site, but everyone was friendly and all in all we thought this was a nice site.

We have just returned from from a weekend at this site, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The site has a small field with pitches for caravans/motorhomes and tents. The field is level so no sliding down the tent on your airbed! We got a pitch right by the toilet block (great for the kids in the night) which was clean, and tidy and I never had to queue for either toilets or showers (which were free and lovely and warm).
The site was lovely and quiet with no noise much after 10pm, and the kids enjoyed playing in the play area attached to the pub.
Unfortunately the swimming pool was still having its spring clean so not yet open when we got there, but it looked nice also.
Would recommend going there, its in a lovely setting with views across the downs.

We arrived quite late at night and were in a hurry to put the tent up before it became dark and before it rained !
The lady at reception seemed in no hurry and was very concerned in how big our tent was and whether she needed to charge us anymore (no other sites have charged us depending on the size of the tent and so I was shocked)
However, the site was great and we could pitch where we liked with no limit to space. The toilet and shower block was based in the middle. This was clean and separated into men and womens.
We didn't use the pubs facilities although it looked a nice place.
The outdoor pool looked ok but we didn't have the weather to be able to use it.
It would have been good if we could have had electric hook up included in the price.

Spent the last night of a 15 night tour of the UK at this site. They were very friendly and the site was nice. I found the pitches were very close together, although not really a problem for us with the motorhome. Toilet / showers were very clean and very well posiitoned in the middle of the site. There was a pool which looked very nice, the pub was very nice, we sat in the garden in the evening and it was a nice end to a great holiday. There were a lot of workmen on the site, in what appeared to be permanently sited caravans, but they were no problem and actually were very friendly and entertaining in the pub! At £20 per night it was the most expensive we stayed at and although it was very nice I did feel that it was very expensive for the facilities that they had.

Have just spent 2 nights on this site in our trailer tent. I was told campers could not arrive until after 6, which we did, but had a 20min wait to book in whilst the owner had his dinner, which meant I was pitching the tent in the dark. Apart from that gripe we enjoyed our stay the site is clean and tidy, the ground does slope a bit and I bent about 20 tent pegs as it is chalk based. The shower and toilet block were clean and well sited in the middle of the site. The pub, which has a country pub style and a very good menu has a couple of pool tables and a football table for the kids and the big kids amongst us to play on.
It was a shame the pool was not open as it was one of the best days we have had all summer, the golf driving range is bonus(if you play golf)and cheap.
There was a car boot sale on the Sunday morning which I believe is a regular thing and well worth a look. We are crossing our fingers for good weather next weekend as we are hoping to go back.

This was a 2 night stop over for us and found the pub very nice with pool tables, football table and dart board (take your own darts) which my children and husband enjoyed. When we ordered food they forgot our order so we weren't very pleased with that side of things. It was too cold to use the pool, it's outside and looked really chilly. The showers (only 2) were huge and clean but there isn't anywhere to hang clothes or towel nor anywhere to put shampoo apart from the floor. Oh one more thing there isn't any soap in the toilets so you always had to remember to take it with you - messy! No shop on site which is a pain when you just want milk and bread in the morning. Our neighbours were a lovely German family and they had been touring around down south but they couldn't understand why this campsite charged top dollar when they don't have the basics (shop and soap). True really. There is a large tesco just along the ring road. A must is Stonehenge just down the road about 20 minutes away.

This site is perfect for a short break or stopover. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. On site there is a driving range, swimming pool, children's play area, hard standings, electric hookups and a superb pub and restaurant.A good beer guide pub with three ales, all in excellent condition. The food was also very good. The site is surrounded by fields, I was told by the owners that the road that passes by the campsite can get noisy, even at night. The loo's were small and basic and would probably get quite busy in the summer, but they were clean. Well worth a visit.

We go to Wyke Down every year for a long weekend with a bunch of friends and always have a good time. The site is relaxed and friendly and never too packed. Sharon and Peter work hard to keep the place tidy and clean and on a sunny weekend its great to have a swimming pool and a real ale pub on your doorstep. You can literally stay there all weekend and not worry. The pub food is fine if you can't be bothered to cook. There's plenty of room for the kids to play cricket or footy. Don't be put off by the route through the industrial estate to get to it from the A303. Highly recommended.

I stayed at the Wyke Down campsite in August 2006 and found it to be a really friendly and relaxed place. The pub and restaurant on site were excellent. The food was of a high quality, reasonably priced and we didn't have to wait very long for it once we'd ordered. The whole site is kept very clean and tidy. There is also an outdoors swimming pool on site. I would thoroughly recommend Wyke Down.
