The positives about this site are the great location, all amenities on site that you could need, the fact they are happy to accept just the odd night or a discount for 2 rather than the standard 3 or more during school holiday, very reasonable price and if you're into night time entertainment there is plenty on offer.
The negatives, going during peak season we were in the overflow field. We were shown to our plot by a very helpful man on a bike as it wasn't clearly marked out. Asking for electric hook up when booking we found that the one nearest our pitch was completely used up by other campers. I had to fetch a warden to ask advice. He was great at sorting it all out for us. It seemed those with very long extensions were using ours! I plugged in only to find half an hour later someone trying to take it out as they couldn't find a spare electric hook up for their pitch! The view from the pitch is fantastic but the pitch was cramped. We used our old tent that had seen better days and we were slotted between a caravan with a gazebo and a very large tent. We struggled to get our tent pegged properly with the limited room and at night time with no lights in the field a torch was essential because of trip hazards! I doubt very much that our new tent & porch would've fitted into the same plot. The shower/toilet facilities were rather a trek. A case of thinking you need to go at least half an hour before you do in case of queues and it was only after the 3rd visit we discovered the toilet roll on a dispenser on the door! The showers seemed a bit dated and my children weren't keen.
The pitch was on a slope but not too bad, water taps were at the end of each row of tightly packed tents and not too far to carry. The bonus of being in the overflow field is that you're closer to the path down to the beach which is just minutes away.
We didn't make use of any of the extras on offer such as the swimming facilities as that was extra cost.
Would we visit again? I suspect we would, although I would attempt to get a slightly better pitch next time if possible as those nearer the hedge at the top seemed to have more room.

You can't beat the location. Numerous perfect beaches within walking distance and spectacular views en route.
We stayed on one of the permanent pitches, which was flat and a decent size. Some of the other reviews state sloping pitches, this is just in the overflow field. The pitch fee includes electricity, which we don't use.
The facilities are clean and look nice, although the layout is a bit weird with no showers in the gender specific blocks (just toilets and basins) and ten showers in the laundry/ washing up block.
Showers are 20p for a few minutes, which is only just enough and the water was a bit too hot (no adjustment available).
The bar was typical holiday park, with cheesy DJ's and loads of stuff for kids. Food and booze was reasonably priced. Swimming pool is great, but only required if the weather isn't good.
Shop has the basics, more in St Merryn and more still in Padstow. We cycled through the other local sites, and this appears the best of the three (others are sloping).

We went to Harlyn Sands Holiday Park for the 9th year running as we love Padstow and the surrounding areas and beaches.
Most of the years we have visited Harlyn Sands I have done a nice review of this site, however this year I am struggling.
The toilet block was half closed in both male and females, half the hot taps weren't working and a few times there was no toilet roll.
The showers were nice and hot, however you have to pay 20p to use them this could be quite costly when all the family needed a shower. This is the only site I've been on that you have to pay for showers!.
The clubroom was a big let down again this year there was one pool table in use, one out of order and one working but no light above it working.
The swimming pool is lovely and warm with a flume that is turned on (i think )every hour for about 20 mins, however you have to pay to use this facility.
The pitches are a nice size, however when my husband went off to get some water he struggled to find a tap that was working!
There is a park for younger children but nothing for older children like a footie field etc.
I wish the owners would look at this review and all the others and make some well needed changes to this site. Although this is quite a negative review I will still be returning to Harlyn Sands mainly because of the excellent beaches and the fantastic meals on the site.

We stayed here this summer, and feel quite mixed about our experience. The site was in a fantastic area, and several beaches could be reached on foot- 5 mins- 25 mins depending on which one you chose. The footpaths were quite difficult to Harlyn beach but not too bad- just needed the nettles cutting back.
The pitch was a tight squeeze for our trailer tent and left no room for the children to play- the access roads were very narrow, so very difficult to drive our car out when the pitch opposite had parked across directly.
The main problem we experienced was the showers. There were only 10 for the entire site, so queues were very long at peak times. They cost 20p for a few mins and were often scalding hot, you could not adjust the temperature so totally unsuitable for small children. I often resorted to a quick flannel down for my kids in the toilet block- not ideal but better than 3rd degree burns!
The swimming pool was new and looked lovely, but children with arm bands were not allowed into the main pool or allowed to use the flume, so we found this very difficult for our 4 year old. The showers in the pool were not working (a way of getting you into the 20p showers) and this was our main problem. After a swim we had to wrap in our towels and run dripping wet to the shower block situated further down the site- then queue, by the time we got into a shower our towel was soaked and the little children shivering and tearful- not a good experience! Unfortunately we had paid for 2 weeks use of the pool and hardly used it because of this reason. The management were not interested and said its this or no pool at all- very helpful
The play area was ok but small and there was nowhere for teenagers, so they were using scooters and skateboards around the play area and frequently knocking the little kids over. The club was again small, and if you wanted a table you had to be there early. They did have some brilliant entertainers for the kids and an animal man which was unusual and very interesting.
Not sure if I would visit again- this site could have been great but I think the owners have just got too greedy and are cramming too many people on. Would definitely not go again until the showers are sorted out.

Location is excellent with great views of the bay and coastal walks aplenty. Good club house, pool, and pub and beaches nearby. Bus to padstow and newquay leave from the pub in harlyn.
All in all a great site, if a bit dated and could do with a bit of modernisation. But the club, beaches and walks outweigh this.
We tried to book for august and were told it was full, so certainly busy. Will go again and it you have kids that like party dances and general tomfoolery this is for you.
Small kids will love it here.

This was our first time visiting Cornwall and if all the sites were like harlyn sands we wouldn't return!
The site is in need of modernisation. We stayed on the hardstanding pitches and they were very small however the electric held out so I'm not too sure it is 6 amp as stated as we used kettle microwave etc and it never tripped out
The shower block and toilets really need new ones building, charging extra for showers and having toilet roll outside the toilets which I can only assume is so you don't use as much. There are no soap dispensers either which is unhygienic. The site owners also turned the showers off in the pool area.
There was one elsan point for all the tourers on site [which you also had to put your waste water down] The freshwater pipes had no drains under them resulting in muddy fields.
The club house was way too small for the amount of people on this site.
One plus point was the beach which was nice!

We booked a week at this site, mainly due to the proximity of the beaches nearby. I'd checked the reviews on this site and was a little bit worried about the site itself but decided to take a chance, and I'm glad I did. I must point out though, we did have glorious weather for the week which always helps on a holiday!
The site itself is decent, if a little cramped and dated, with the pitch we were given on the main site just adequate for our caravan & awning. The pitches themselves are only vaguely marked out and an unscrupulous neighbour could easily pinch a bit of your plot! There's just about enough room at a pinch to squeeze your car in front of your pitch.
The site is family run and as such seems a little bit chaotic. The saying goes 'many hands make light work' but there's another that goes 'the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing'. This was apparent when we booked the site (eventually, after a few phone calls to different staff) and when we arrived early at the site. Our pitch wasn't vacant which we fully understood as we'd arrived early (9am) so we were directed to the beachfield site to wait. Staff went past us backwards & forwards on quad bikes guiding others to their pitches but ignored us until past 11am before I enquired at reception who informed us our pitch had been vacant for an hour!
The facilities are a little dated with 20p required to use the showers, though 40p is nearer the mark to make sure the water doesn't cut out with you still covered in soap.
The now infamous toilet roll outside the toilet block still requires you to remember to take enough loo roll into the toilet for your requirements. How you judge how much is enough prior to the 'event' is baffling!
The clubhouse was very busy with most tables taken early on, though the entertainment was of a good standard with the children well catered for.
Whilst we were on the site a freak thunderstorm/cloudburst struck which flooded a touring caravan pitch which was lower than the tarmac nearby. This resulted in the awning and its contents being ruined. I spoke to the owner of the caravan who was less than satisfied with the site staffs response to this unfortunate 'act of god'. He felt they could have been much more helpful.
Having said all this, please don't think it was all negative. The site was clean and easy going, with a great indoor pool. But the biggest plus point was the location. Within easy walking distance was the superb Harlyn Bay & Constantine beaches, with Mother Ivey's bay nearby too.
Ok a bit of modernisation on the site wouldn't go amiss but the question is. Would I return? The answer is yes!

We had an excellent holiday at Harlyn Sands. The staff were all friendly and helpful as well as the site being clean and tidy the whole of our stay. Our daughter (almost 3yrs) loved the play area and children's entertainment in the club.
The location was great as we spent time on site, at the beach (which was a very short walk to and sheltered as its in a cove - ideal for small children) or went out for afternoons to a variety of places which were within easy drive.
We would fully recommend this site especially if you want to visit Cornwall and of course Rick Steins! (Padstow)

We have only just come back from Harlyn and would love to go back.
We have visited this site before but stayed in a static caravan, therefore we did know roughly what the site had to offer.
We have only been touring for 12 months and wanted to go back to Harlyn because we had a nice experience before.
What I would say is if you are going in a touring caravan plan your route as any wrong turn could result in travelling down very narrow lanes. The site does recommend that you enter from across the Golf Club and this is definitely the best way if towing.
The pitches are flat and as we were going in (mid season) whit week, we thought it would be really noisy and busy. Although the site was clearly fully booked it didn't feel it. Having read a couple of previous reviews about pitch sizes, I can see that if you didn't have considerate people next to you that you may end up being very close to each other but this didn't happen when we stayed.
The staff are all friendly, and they were constantly cleaning the toilets and showers. You do have to fetch the toilet roll before you enter the toilets but it was constantly filled up (not too sure why they don't have this in each of the toilets). The showers were adequate, and even though you did have to pay 20p this did give you enough time to shower, shampoo etc. The only trouble we had was with the consistency of water temperature, sometimes too hot and somtimes too cold, but we managed.
We did use the restaurant on site and the food was very nice.
Best thing about the site - 'The location of the beach'. Only 5 minutes walk down the path and you can are on the beach.
Worst thing about the site - Narrow lanes on approaching, which could get interesting at busy times.

We arrived and was promptly given our pitch was more than suitable for our Vango Amazon 600 tent and car.
We have come to Harlyn Sands for around 6 years now and never had a bad to word to say about the site until now.
1 The children's play area was fenced off in places and beside the park a wall had crumbled down and was dangerous for the children to play around although this was fenced off
2 Some of the toilet locks didn't lock properly in the gents.
3 The heated(very cold) swimming pool was only open at certain times, although to get the flume working you need to have 2 life guards and there can be a long wait for one of the other workers to arrive to assist in this, you have to pay for this service and having to wait for this was upsetting for my 9 year old son, my wife went down to reception to ask when they were going to send another lifeguard so that the children not only ours would be able to use the flume
The showers in the shower block need updating and you still have to pay 20p for around 2mins and again these were very cold, you need to use at least 40p to get the water warm and allow you to have a wash.
The site has a good club room with some great entertainment for the kids which was enjoyed by my 9 year old son, who was kept entertained by Tricky Ricky and partner, The restaurant is good value for money although my wife ordered a chicken curry and had a beef one turned up on her plate when she complained she got told that it was Turkey ?? Well worth being there on a Sunday for the Carvery one of the best carverys I have had!
The site is in a great position for the local beaches and attractions with just a short walk down the lane to the beach.
Although some of the comments are negative go and give the site a go yourself. Please, Please Harlyn Sands don't let the site go down hill give it the TLC that it deserves.
