Just back from our second year at Harlyn and have booked again for next year. We have been camping for many years and Harlyn is the first place we'll probably return to many times. For kids, it's perfect. The entertainment team seem to work all day - especially when it rains.
The beaches, all within walking distance are some of the best you'll find. The pitches, in the main park, are spacious and well drained with no petty rules about where you park or pitch, as long as you use a bit of common sense. No hint of mud even in heavy rain. We have also met some wonderful people in a great atmosphere.
The showers can get busy in peak season and more would clearly be beneficial, but we've never had a problem by staggering our times a bit. In August, sites are full! The shop is well socked with basic essentials and Tesco in padstow is only 3 miles away.
The entertainment is, at worst, fun but a special mention for BZRK who were excellent. The restaurant is also good value. The pool is great and the extra cost means it's not stupidly busy all the time. £20 a week for a family is far better value than council leisure centres!
If you want 4 star luxury, find a hotel, but for camping, value for money and a fantastic location with everything you'll need for a family, Harlyn does it for us.

Just got back from 2 weeks at Harlyn Sands. We were there for 10 days in April and it is our third visit now. We were pitched on the beachfield for a week, and then that closed so we had to move to the main park. The weather was bad in the first week and the beachfield is quite sandy so there was quite a few tents which were damaged due to pegs coming out, me included. Double peg if in doubt as the beachfield is quite exposed if its windy, which it will be!
Facilities are stretched when the whole site inc beachfield is full. Whilst its is overall a pretty good site, there were aspects which would be easy to sort which would improve the site, there is a lack of attention to detail. The extractor fans in the showers are full of dust for instance, and fag ends lying around outside the various blocks.
The proximity to various beeches is fantastic, 10 mins from Padstow, and the club house all swing it for us. When the weather was bad entertainment was laid on all day which is a lifesaver. Eddie and Tricky Ricky, and their crew, are all fab. This year there were signs saying no ball games, which is an improvement on last year when I thought the kids heads were going to get knocked off by a football in the park area.
Our kids 4 and 6 both loved the entertainment and whilst some of it is better than others for the price you pay I think its pretty good value. The site next door is more expensive and whilst perhaps more upmarket doesn't even have a bar.

Just come back from Harlyn sands holiday park. We had a lovely time, entertainment was great good acts every night. Play ground was ok if you had younger kids.
The area around the park concerning the beaches was fantastic and it was only a five minute walk away from the park.
The shop on the site was ok if you ran out of grocery but very expensive, so make sure you stock up or go to tesco which is only 5 mins away from the site. Make sure you go to Padstow lovely fishing village we went several times there, lovely shops. They also had music on the harbour you can go crabbing or take a speed boat ride.
Newquay was only a 25 minutes drive, Padstow was only 10 mins away from camp site. There was theme parks such as Flambards. Crealy was not far away. We went to a place called treasure park which was a free entry which was very good look it up on the website its a must. At St Merryn there a place called Blackberries farm which do a lovely cream tea.
The down sides are this the toilets blocks had no toilet paper in them so you had to take the paper from outside and into the toilet, any thing like me you will forget like I did lol but otherwise that was the only down side of the park. I have read the reviews before I went and I was very worried but please dont be put off because the other visitors must be seeing things different from me.
The camp site was fantastic in every way for me and my family.I did not want to leave Cornwall.
One other point is the staff in the reception was a bit off they could not find our booking form and kept us waiting.
At Padstow there is a seafood store near the harbour
Thank you Harlyn sands for a lovely holiday we will be back next year. The best campsite so far.

We stayed here for two weeks and were not very impressed. This site may suit some people and yes the location to the beach is perfect. You approach the site down a country lane which would ordinarily fit two cars down but on changeover day (Saturday) forget it. They advised us that if we did not need to leave the site then don't!. They did have people at either end of the road 'directing' traffic but they were not coordinated. You would have a caravan trying to get through from one end and the man at the other was still letting cars through. The lane isnt wide enough for a car width and caravan width together.
The pitches are not clearly marked out and you may find that you have less then the person next to you as they have taken more room. The clubhouse was noisy at night. The music seemed to get louder at 10pm and continued till 11.30. The people leaving the club were also very loud and inconsiderate of their surroundings.
If you stay on the site when they have opened up beach field be prepared to queue for a shower in the evening. We often came back from the beach needing a shower but could not get one. There are only 10 showers and the queue for these were out of the door. Not good if you are covered in sun lotion, salt and sand. There was no queue in the mornings or afternoon. The toilets were kept tidy but the cleaners but be prepared to take your own toilet roll. There is non in each toilet and therefore people take far more then they need.

Just came back from 4 nights at Harlyn Sands and had a fantastic time.
Our pitch was level and we had lots of room to pitch our tent and put our car on it the down side to it was that the pitch wasn't marked out. The clubroom has a games room for the children with pool tables and they have excellent entertainment with the return of Tricky Ricky and his new partner who do party dances and games with lots of prizes.
The site also has a restaurant and every night they do a 'special' night my husband went to the curry night and paid £4 for curry and chips and a popadom then on another night we had a 3 course carvery for £7.75 it was so nice and excellent value for money that we went back and had another one 2 nights later!
The site has a nice indoor pool the only problem is that you have to pay to use it so if you have a big family then this could be costly.
The shower block and toilets really lets the park down the shower block has about 10 showers (half were locked off) which you have to pay 20p and you don't get long! The toilets were clean but only one half of them were open there is no toilet roll in the cubicles you have to take it off a roll which hangs on a door my advice would be to take a packet of pocket tissues in with you just in case you run out.
The best feature of the park is the beaches which is a short walk away you have the option of going on 2 small coves or the big beach which is lifeguarded.
We had a lovely time and will continue to visit Harlyn Sands and again welcome back Tricky Ricky.

This was about my fifth visit to Harlyn and we were blessed with two fantastic weeks of wall-to-wall sunshine.
The site is so beautifully situated near some gorgeous sandy beaches we keep going back.
The site is well cared for with lovely flower beds, clean facilities and a fabulous indoor swimming pool. The grass is always cut short and pitches have lights at night (a bit too bright for some of my family).
The main criticism I have of this site is the lack of markers on pitches. It is left to the campers to gauge where one finishes and the next starts. Twice during my fortnight I returned from a day out to find new neighbours pitched very close to my tent and no room for my car. Every year I mention this to staff but it never changes.
In the literature it states that no noise should be made between 11pm and 7am but this rule is flouted on a regular basis and no staff are around to police this. Music from club can be very loud too.

The position of this site is stunning. It is set on the coast one mile or so from Padstow. It has its own path down to the beach from the site so you can be on the beach from your caravan in 10 minutes.
The site facilities showers and toilet blocks are basic but clean. Never had an issue with hot water. You do need coins for the showers.
The site has a large club house with entertainment most night. We did not use due to our children's age. I would recommend a pitch well away from the club house due to the noise late at night. The indoor swimming pool is also a bonus on the rainy or cloudy morning, this also includes slides and a lazy river. There are also the normal site shop and fast food outlet.
This is an excellent family site with every thing you would expect from a large site. Its position however close to the beach make this a must return.

Stayed here when it was quiet. Great play park for kids.Great pool had to pay extra but pitch prices were reasonable so this was not a problem. Walked to Harlyn bay beach from campsite this was beautiful with golden sand sweeping across this large beach. One toilet block with loo roll available on the outside of the cubicle??? Take your own in your handbag wouldn`t want you to not dispense enough for your sitting! Can`t knock the outstanding area, Padstow 10 mins drive with a Tesco. Will return but only in low/mid season.

We had elecric hook-up and camped on the main site, you can also use the beach field but it is a longer walk to the toilet blocks but the pitches are bigger. We found the site facilities to be good. Toilet block was clean and you get used to the toilet roll dispenser. Showers were 20p and gave enough time. Laundry facilities were good and the site shop although a little expensive, stocked all the basics. The play area is a little run down but the kids loved it. Pool was great.
The pitches were small and we had some leaks due to the awful weather we experienced during our stay, it was very windy and mainly cloudy, we only got on the beach 3 times during our 10 day stay. The little cove at the end of beach field is lovely but if you have mobility problems the climb down to the beach is a little steep. There are lots of other beaches and the bigger beach just passed the cove at has all the facilities you need. You can walk across to the bigger beach from the campsite's cove at low tide or you can walk along the clifftop. Alternatively you can take the car along parking in the car park for the day is £3.00 there are ice cream vans, hot food, life guards and toilet facilities.
The Harlyn Inn which is just across the road does lovely meals and the carvery is £6.95 and is very generous. The village of St Merryn has a chip shop, chinese takeaway, pizza restaurant and shops and newsagent and is only a 5 minute drive from the campsite.
Padstow is very close by and we visited many times as there is a Tesco and a lovely harbour and town with lots of pasty shops and restaurants.
All in all if you get the weather you couldn't ask for a better campsite, location and beaches. Even though the weather was terrible our children age 5 and 13 had a fab time.

Had a nightmare journey to the site after passing st meryn, harlyn sands should signpost the way for caravans to go over the golf course as one wrong turn and it is disaster. After a traumatic time in reaching the site we were greeted at reception and directed to our pitch. Straight away we had to ask someone to move their car as couldn't swing caravan round onto the path of our road/pitch.We were the last unit to arrive on our area of the park and the pitches were not marked out properly. Some people seem to have masses of space and others were crammed in, us being the latter. This lack of proper allocation definitely spoilt our time here.
The park is looking tired and it seems they are trying to improve the toilet facilities in the ladies but not sure if they are adding showers?
The indoor pool was very good and did seem quite new and the added bonus was that it contained showers in the toilets so you could shower after a swim and wash your hair without being on a timer and not having to queue. It seems these showers in the pool are quite new so people don't appear to have worked this out.
The surrounding area ie beaches were the best we have seen in cornwall and overall we had a good holiday
