Just arrived back from Harlyn Sands, we had a good time all in all, but that's just because we were in lovely Cornwall.
About the site-
Great location
Local beaches are second to none
Beach field was very quite & at night we could hear the sea!
Not enough showers, they cost 20p & were too hot for little ones.
Seemed to be litter / fag butts every where, especially around toilets & bar. Grass very long in beach field
Playground was tired & location next to entrance road.
Walk from far end of beach field to toilets about 10mins!

After pitching up, we decided to make a brew and plan the rest of our first day. When the kettle was switched on the fuse tripped out. It did this several times so I contacted reception where I was told that the current had been reset to 6 amps because the site was busy and too much electricity was being used! (Isn’t this covered by the peak charges that are applied to pitches when the site is busy??)
The one toilet block on the site had 2 industrial sized toilet roll dispensers from which you have to dispense the required amount of toilet roll necessary for your visit!. The showers took 20p and mainly provided enough hot water (if you got there early enough and queued up) for a decent shower although the temperature and water flow rates couldn’t be adjusted and the one hand drier on the wall in the gents toilet block wasn’t working for the whole duration of our stay.
The shop is quite small but seemed to have most of the basics plus a selection of holiday paraphernalia.
The pool was good but more lighting would have brightened the place up. The play area looked as though it needed a bit of an update and tidying too. Lots of bear patches in the grass and weeds growing through the gaps in the patio.
The waste bins were located directly to the left hand side of the reception by the entrance to the site and on certain days the litter piles could be seen rising above the fence they were behind.
The pitches were quite tight and with a caravan, awning and a car, there was very little room for much else. The car had to be parked parallel to the road with the wing mirrors tucked in and hope and prayers that bikes/toys/kids etc didn’t go down the paintwork of the car.
The entertainers provided the kids looked well organised but our kids were too old for it and didn’t use it.
The drive into the site was quite tight (as with many roads in Cornwall and Devon) but on our arrival, we were well guided in by a couple of Harlyn Sands people. The location is quite good with several good beaches within a few minutes walk (especially Mother Iveys Bay).

We booked in the faith that it was 'a family holiday run by a family'.
The showers are dire, 10 between the whole campsite. Queueing for over an hour to shower off sandy kids is not amusing. The toilet block (a good five minute walk away) is bizarre, you have to take toilet roll off the back of the entrance door before making your way to a cubicle. They also have a row of sink cubicles, which would have been useful due to the lack of showers, but they have no doors on and no plugs so even a strip wash is not possible.
The pool is not worth the extra £20.00 for a weeks pass. Only one lifeguard watched over the two pools which meant children had to queue in the water for the slide, not being allowed to go up the steps until the last person had popped out the end. Also the slide is only open for a limited amount of time.
The Club, Restaurant and kids playground all need a lick of paint but are generally what you would expect on such a site.
The staff are friendly
Luckily most of this passed the children by and they loved the beach and the entertainment

We spent a weeks holiday at this site in the beachfield camping area and loved the location but found the campsite crowded and tired looking. Our children found the entertainment boring and half of the amusement arcade machines were not working.
There seemed to be quite a lot of business from the on site takeaway most evenings.
The unisex showers which are oddly located within he launderette area are in dire need of modernising and extending to manage the sheer volume of people queuing literally outside the block. 20 pence has to be deposited in a box outside the shower to obtain about 5 mins barely warm water. This was rather annoying and we would have expected the cost of our stay to incorporate shower usage.
We pre paid £20 for use of the super splash pool which we found to be only half operational and the water slide only switched on occasionally. Due to this our children found the pool quite boring. There are no showers available in the swimming pool.
The toilets were clean and we found the fact the toilet roll is dispensed outside of the cubicle rather strange! Various locks and doors were broken. No plugs in the sinks and the push top style water taps didn't generate much water.
The site shop was ok for daily essentials like fresh bread, milk and newspapers etc and fairly priced and re-stocked often. The children's play park was also looking tired and in need of a lick of paint on the apparatus. Overall we loved the closeness of the beach but felt that toilet and washing facilities are needed for the beachfield camping.

When we turned up we were sent to a field to pitch our tent that more resembled an off road dirt track. The toilets were a good 5 minute walk away and once you arrive there was a communal toilet roll that you helped yourself to at the entrance. There were no plugs in the sinks so you could not have a decent wash. After paying a lot of money for the site you are the expected to pay 20 pence for a shower that only last a few minutes, if you need to put another 20 pence in, you have to open the shower door and put the coin in the box on the outside wall where everyone is queuing for a shower. The showers are in a communal block and strangely, carpeted. The showers and toilets were not as clean as they should be with graffiti on the backs of doors and in the evening toilet paper etc on the floors. Most of the changing rooms for the swimming pool had no locks on and there were no showers in the changing rooms either. The only bins I found were by the entrance and were so stacked with rubbish where they were not emptied enough that you could see them from other parts of the campsite. There was also litter around the site that could quite easily be cleared up by litter pickers. The campsite access and roads on the site were too small for the amount of tourists on the site. The children’s play area was adequate . The saving grace in my opinion is that there was a lot to do in the local area which is quite stunning and the beaches are great.

Just got back from this site and had a fantastic time. The site is in a fantastic location and this certainly helped to make it a lovely holiday. There are lots of picturesque walks around the site and it really is perfect for dogs as they are allowed on all of the beaches in the area. The surf was good on the 3 beaches we walked to and it was nice that the beaches were not commercialised. The kids loved the swimming pool and the entertainment was good on the occasions we went. The shop on site was ok for everyday items but we went to the Tesco's at Padstow for a fuller shop. The site was crammed full and the pitch sizes are not big! Luckily we had nice neighbours around us. I would love to return to the site for the walks, beaches etc.But too many niggles preventing me though. Several times I had to wait for a shower as there weren't enough for the site. You have to pay 20p each time but the length of time you got depended on the cubicle you got. I had read about the collecting of toilet roll as you enter the toilets and didn't think it would be an issue. However I found this practice embarrassing.Probably best to take your own in a bag! There were plenty of washing cubicles but no privacy in them as no doors. On our first night there were several underage boys walking round the site drinking cans of lager. I would have liked to have seen more of a presence of staff around the site after dark. This may have been a one off as I didn't see it again though. Lastly make sure you follow the directions about how to reach the site through the golf course as it is good advice! Overall I think it is an okayish site in a very lovely location. The beaches and walks really did make the holiday for us :-)

We booked this site on recommendation from friends. Having read some of the mixed reviews we thought we should give it a try. We have two kids, one 5 and one 2, and found the playground, and location to the fabulous beaches a real positive. The site has a nice indoor pool too, and was a welcome relief when the rain set in.
We too had a mixed feeling having spent a week on the site.
The good things included the on site shop (very handy). Very close location to the excellent beaches along that part of the coast and within walking distance. Decent size pitches.
The food in the onsite dining area was top notch (especially the carvery).
The downsides.
Club facilities need upgrading considering the number of units on site.
The showers were OK but again not enough and very busy.
Water points and elsan emptying done in a single location which meant waiting a while.
Electricity rating for EHU had to be reduced due to power cuts.
In summary this site is great from a friendly family run point of view, no idiots, everyone genuinely there to enjoy the fabulous beaches and fantastic location. When it's busy the facilities (showers, club, water and emptying) struggle to cope. However overall was a nice place to stay.
Nearby, the coastal road to Newquay (via Porth, Mawgan Porth, and Watergate bay) is a must. The Cornish Arms is a fab place to eat and very child friendly, and Padstow, buy a crab line, some bait and watch the boats and the world go by.
If travelling to this site, make sure you leave early to arrive early, there is about 10miles of single track roads to get there, and you need to beat the traffic. Well worth it once safely on site though.

10/15 minute walk to several nice beaches.
The drinks in the club were not overpriced.
Kids entertainment most of the day.
Pitch size was pretty good.
Decent indoor pool.
Entertainment staff very friendly, bar staff too, and also efficient.
Evening entertainment was not up to scratch, apart from Jimmy Tamely (ventriloquist) He was good.
No open area for kids to play on, kick a ball about etc.
Showers - cost us 40p a time and often over half an hour wait at busy times. Could work out quite expensive if you have a big family and wanted to stay clean The general state of repair of the clubhouse and shower / toilet blocks leaves a lot to be desired, missing gutters that caused huge puddles, generally the old fashioned timber cladding on the inside of the showers looked dated and grubby. Pedestrian access around the main entrance to the site and from the toilets back to your pitch was not good - having to share the road with vehicles. Not much in the way of wetsuit cleaning provided. Sinks for washing up took an age to fill with hot water. Every time we went there people were commenting about it. There was also a bit of a strange thing going on at the toilets. You had to tear off your toilet paper that you thought that you might use prior to entering the cubicle. Hence the toilets were often blocked due to people probably over estimating the amount that they were actually going to need.
We would consider going back if the facilities were better.

Hi just had a week at Harlyn Sands as usual great bar and restaurant good value for money.
However the entertainment this year was a bit of a let down there was no children's dances or adult fun in the early evening. Leon and Lucy are no comparison for Captain Crumble and Tricky Ricky they didn't seem to know what to do with the Kids.
The Showers are a bit dated now and first thing in the morning Bloody COLD could do with updating still got to pay 20p for a COLD shower.
Paid for a weeks swim ticket and found out the pool was only open between 10am and 1pm and then 4pm- 7pm this was a bit of a let down as the weather was pretty bad on a couple of days.
Please don't let this campsite go to the dogs as we love coming and really enjoy it but BRING BACK CRUMBLE. Whatever he costs he knows how to entertain the whole family.
The campsite is in beautiful surroundings and the beaches are great still had a good time.
Will go back next year weather permitting.

Spent a weekend here and have mixed feelings about the site. The biggest plus point is the fantastic location next to some wonderful beaches and my favourite part of Cornwall. The pitch size was ok with nice walled planters offering some separation of pitches.I wouldn't like to be here when the site is full as would feel cramped and have never stayed on a site where people tramp across your pitch so much.
The shop is very expensive, bar seen better days, pool is lovely but they don't tell you the flume is only operated at limited times and they need some more comfy chairs/ more sunloungers in there. The booking in/ reception is poor, when ringing for a pitch nobody seems to know what is going on, was left hanging on several times and whole thing just seems unorganised. I don't know why they charge extra for pool passes, why not just charge an all in fee for the pitch.
The bins were overflowing with rubbish piled high. Despite the bins being screened off the rubbish was piled so high it could be seen from a lot of pitches/ playarea and was disgusting and stank throughout our stay attracting seagulls. A fair walk from some pitches to this bin area, site would benefit from some waste bins round site too.
Overall I would use this site off season for the proximity to the beaches but not for the facilities on site
